Charming Holiday Cottage with large extended private garden and patio & BBQ.

The Granary is available weekly from Friday to Friday. Short 4 day breaks available during off peak season. The property is located just outside the picturesque village of High Hurstwood nr Uckfield, in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with spectacular views over uninterrupted rolling farm pastures. The property was converted into a unique detached cottage offering spacious and very comfortable accommodation. We provide an ideal platform from which to explore much of Sussex and Kent.. The Granary has a privately fenced garden and large extended area for children to play in, as well as a patio, with BBQ facilities during the summer. Regret we are not suited to accommodate children under 5. No dogs due to our own livestock.

Approached off a quiet country lane the Cottage is situated on the owner's farm in an idyllic rural location. Secure parking for 2 cars is provided immediately adjacent to The Granary. We are very well placed for historic LEWES, GLYNDEBOURNE OPERA HOUSE, TUNBRIDGE WELLS, and the Coastal towns of EASTBOURNE and BRIGHTON with HASTINGS slightly further afield yet still within an easy drive via 1066 BATTLE as is Druisillas Zoo Park nr picturesque Alfriston. Nearby is Blue Bell Railway, Sheffield Park & many famous National Trust properties such as Rudyard Kipling's Batemans, Churchill's Chartwell, Wakehurst Place with the Kew Seed Bank, Petworth and Groombridge Place to name but a few. The Crowborough, The Sussex National & Piltdown Golf Courses are all within a few miles. Local Fishing & PYO Fruit Farm. We have wonderful walking in nearby Buxted Park, The Ashdown Forest within a few miles which is an ancient area of tranquil open heathland and home to Winnie the Pooh, the local Vanguard Way & on miles of footpaths within a few mins stroll of The Granary. Buxted Station in under 9 mins drive with hourly Train Service into LONDON. The local town of Uckfield in around 10 mins has a good variety of shops and restaurants, a Waitrose and Tesco Supermarket and a cinema. Many excellent local pubs incl our own village pub, The Hurstwood which comes highly recommended!

Please Note: The Minimum Booking Period is for 4 Days subject to off peak availability. Booking week runs from FRIDAY to FRIDAY, although some flexibility can sometimes be accommodated off peak.

Located just outside the small village of High Hurstwood in the Sussex Weald, nr Uckfield, The Granary is an extremely spacious 3 bedroom Self Catering holiday cottage for up to 5 guests. Approached from a quiet country lane the property offers comfortable accommodation in an elevated rural location with spectacular views across the Sussex Weald. Ideally placed from which to explore much of Kent and Sussex and coastal towns of Eastbourne, Brighton, and Hastings. The Granary stands in the grounds of the owners' farm providing secure parking for up to 2 cars immediately adjacent to the property. The property is surrounded by open farmland with a large private fenced garden and patio offering guests peace and tranquility and lovely views of the farm. We fall within the officially designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and are located just outside the small village of High Hurstwood with highly recommended local Pub, The Hurstwood. Nearby Uckfield is within a 10 mins drive, and has a good range of local shops including Tesco and Waitrose supermarkets, a Lesiure Centre with swimming pool, and a small cinema.

Granary Description: An oak door leads into a terracotta tiled entrance lobby with plenty of hanging space for coats. The fully fitted farmhouse kitchen converted from an old stable has creme units, solid wooden worktops, tiled floor, table, dresser, Belfast sink, cooker, large fridge/freezer, microwave, washing machine and dishwasher. Off the kitchen is a separate dining room. On the ground floor there is also a single bedroom with wrought iron bed, chest of drawers and wardrobe with an adjacent Victorian-style bathroom. Upstairs is fully carpeted throughout and is approached via an attractive staircase leading into a large well furnished lounge comprising comfortable settees, coffee tables, TV, DVD Player, Music Centre and well stocked bookshelf. There are 2 large double bedrooms, one with a double bed with en suite shower facilities, although the Shower Room can be also accessed independently, and the other bedroom is a very large twin. Both have a wardrobe, chest of drawers, dressing table, full-length mirror and table lamps

There are endless walks available in every direction on the the many footpaths accessed within a few mins stroll of The Granary through woodland, open farm land, via lakes, streams and land dedicated for protected wildlife habitats, as well as in Buxted Park and it’s herds of fallow deer. Ashdown Forest with it’s Winnie the Pooh connections in Hartfield offers miles of hiking, horse riding and cycling. Buxted in around 8 mins, has a main line Station offering hourly service into London in just over the hour, Course Fishing, Buxted Park and Hotel, The Oast Fruit Picking Farm, Fishing Lake, Farm Shop and Tea Room.

Local Attractions:

Famous Glyndebourne Opera House, renowned Charleston Farmhouse - home of the Bloomsbury Set with its quirky interior decoration by Vanessa Bell, sister of Virginia Woolf, nearby Middle Farm near Firle for free cidar tasting and farm activities for children as well as excellent farm shop. Superby walks on top of Firle Beacon.

A variety of National Trust & English Heritage attractions within easy access incl Batemans in Burwash home to Rudyard Kipling of Jungle Book fame, Sheffield Park Gardens, Scotney Castle, 1066 Battle Abbey, Blue Bell Railway, Standen, Knole Park, Penshurst Place, Groombridge Place, Chartwell home of Sir Winston Churchill, Nymans, Wakehurst with the Kew Seed Bank to name but a few. Drusillas Zoo and Adventure Park especially geared for younger children, and nearby Alfriston Village with it's cobble streets, quaint shops and numerous tea rooms

The Granary while in a rural location, is nevertheless within very easy access of Royal Tunbridge Wells, Historical Lewes, Glyndebourne Opera House and the Coastal towns of Eastbourne and famous Brighton. While Battle 1066 Country, Hastings and Rye are about an hours drive as are the spectacular South Downs.

We have some very good pubs in the immediate area including our own village pub, The Hurstwood, The White Hart, Buxted Inn, Blackboys Inn, The Griffin at Fletching, The Lamb at Piltdown and the MiddleHouse in Mayfield to name but a few,

Regretably we are not suited for children under 5. No dogs due to our own Livestock. We do not allow smoking in The Granary, and ask for guests to respect this in the interest of other guests.

Our Booking period is from Friday to Friday. Short 4 days breaks available during off peak seasons, and subject to availability.

Refundable damage deposit £100.00
We request a 50% deposit at time of booking with the balance payable 6 weeks before arrival. A £100 Security Deposit against damage is requested and returned on the morning of departure. In the unlikely event of a guest not being able to take up a booking we will endeavour to rent the cancelled period if possible. However, it is recommended guests take out their own Holiday Insurance.

The Granary offers a large extended garden for guests use as well as a flat area for children to play in and kick a ball around! For those who enjoy walking, The Van Guard Way is only a few mins walk away as are many footpaths in the immediate area as well as Buxted Park with its herds of fallow deer. Within 10 mins is Ashdown Forest with its Winnie the Pooh connections at Hartfield for walking, cycling and horse riding.
