Casa Montanha-Mar is a spacious villa offering sea-views, four bedrooms with en-suite facilities and its own swimming pool, available for holiday rental. The villa stands in private grounds and includes a barbecue area with cobbled terrace, a large balcony on the south side of the villa, and a large tiled area around the pool. Located near Porches, there are beaches and restaurants within 2 to 3 kilometres, a choice of four golf courses less than 15 kilometres away, and several well stocked supermarkets nearby. Our bookings run from Thursday to Thursday, but not all local airports fly to Faro on Thursdays. For this reason, we are flexible on dates, and will take bookings for a minimum of 4 nights, and charge a daily rate. Please contact us for details.

Situated in the centre of the 100 miles of sandy beaches of the beautiful Algarve coastline, we can be reached by car from Faro Airport along the fast coastal road in under 1 hour. The accommodation consists of a very large lounge/dining area, fully equipped kitchen, 4 bedrooms (1 double and 3 twin rooms) all with en-suite facilities, plus one extra WC with basin. The villa stands in its own secluded grounds of almost 2 acres. There is a large private swimming pool, with a safe shallow end for young children. Surrounding the pool is a large paved area, ideal for sunbathing on the padded sun-beds provided. In the garden there are fruit trees, oranges, lemons, and almonds, also grape vines and flowering shrubs. The villa is also provided with a television and DVD player.

There are terraces around the pool and another equipped with a barbecue. Also a large balcony across the front of the villa offering sea views.

Just 3 kilometres along the coast road from the villa you will find the sea side town of Armacao de Pera. The beach here is smooth, clean sand, and it stretches for miles. The town is able to cater for all your needs, with its many supermarkets, shops, bars and restaurants. The food on offer ranges from a simple sardine lunch at a beach cafe, to Chinese, Indian, Italian or top quality traditional Portuguese meals served in the many restaurants. If you like to explore, you can go West along the coast to Portimao, Lagos, Sagres and Cape St. Vincent, which is as far west as you can go without falling into the Atlantic Ocean. Or head back East towards Albufuiera, Loule, Faro and the Spanish border. Heading inland you will find towns like Silves with its Cathedral and its Moorish Castle, or further up into the hills you will find the tiny village of Monchique.

Why Mrs Wendy Wright chose Porches

This villa was built by our grandparents in the late 1960's being completed in 1967. At that time there were just a few smaller residential houses nearby. In the subsequent years additional properties have been built in the surrounding area, but all of these are of a high standard, and none are overlooking our villa.

What makes this villa unique

This property and surrounding area is very familiar to us, as we have been visiting regularly over the last 4 decades. Many things have changed over this time, with the villa receiving extensions, modernisations and a swimming pool. Local towns and villages have of course changed significantly, but if you drive inland away from the coast, you can still find traditional villages, crafts and cuisine.

There are many opportunities nearby for golf, horseriding, cycling and watersports activities. Horseriding lessons or treks can be booked at the 'Solear' stables that are located a short walk from the villa. Many beaches are accessible, to suit all tastes, just a short drive away, and range from easily accessible large expanses of golden sand to secluded rocky coves accessible only by steep steps.

Shopping opportunities exist in the local villages, towns and markets. There are also several shopping malls such as 'Algarve Shopping' that includes not only shops and restaurants, but also a cinema complex and 10 pin bowling. Pottery shops can be found alongside several main roads, and these sell everything from souvenirs, and glazed pottery to earthenware cooking pots. There are boat trips that can booked and will take you on a journey along the coastline, exploring many of the rocky caves, or from Portimao up the river Arade to the fortified town of Silves.

Golf: The four nearest golf courses are Salgados Golf Club at Praia de Gale, Vale de Milho Golf near Porches, with Gramacho Course and Pinta Course both near Lagoa.

Notes All bookings in the summer season must be in complete weeks, but we are flexible on dates. The summer holiday period that coincides with the English school summer holidays must be booked in 2 week blocks.
The villa employs the service of a maid for several mornings each week, her duties are more of a caretaker and include light cleaning but does not extend to jobs such as washing up for guests.
A deposit of 25% must be made at the time of booking, with the balance payable at least 6 weeks before the start of the rental period.
