Southole Barns are beautifully situated at the top of a south facing valley in a designated Coastal Preservation Area & Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The Barns sit within a peaceful & secluded setting & enjoy amazing views over the surrounding countryside.

The South West Coastal Path is within 150 meters, providing uninterrupted cliff top & coastal walks along it's rugged coastline, renowned for its dramatic scenery and breathtaking sea views & shipwrecks . It's also close to many stunning & secluded sandy & rock-pool beaches.

The Barns are a courtyard of former Victorian Monastery buildings that have been beautifully converted to a very high standard over the past 3 years, to form 4 exclusive & unique self catering properties.

The courtyard is laid to cobbled & slate, with beautiful raised flower beds, including Fig & Ornamental Artichoke and new for 2014 a beautiful LA hot tub, sitting within 4 acres of gardens & meadow land with a charming stream fed pond.

Week St Mary Barn is a lovely South facing barn conversion, accessed from the courtyard and pastureland views from the living room and bedroom. Dual aspect master bedroom with a magnificent super-king size bed & antique mahogany furniture. Ensuite shower room with double shower cubicle. Open plan living and dining area with a galley kitchen, wood flooring throughout and a quirky traditional cast iron electric fire. Week St Mary is an ideal property for a romantic retreat or honeymoon. (Sleeps: 2 / also able to accommodate a baby) Baby highchair, cot & bath available on request. AS THIS PROPERTY IS IN HIGH DEMAND AND VERY OFTEN FULL, ROSELAND BARN AND CLOVELLY BARN ARE ALSO AVAILABLE AT A REDUCED RATE FOR COUPLES ONLY FROM 8th JANUARY TO 8th APRIL, 7th TO 27TH MAY AND FROM 29TH OCTOBER TO 16TH DECEMBER 2011.

Perfect walking

An after Christmas walking break was much needed and Week St. Mary Barn was perfect for this, the Coastal Path starts literally just a short walk from the barn at the top of the field.
The Barn was very clean,warm and welcoming our week was just so exhilarating, with crashing sea's and stunning coast views(we went in January) if you are into walking this is a must, we planned all our walks before hand to be circular but Chris kindly offered to ferry us to places if need be. The Olive Tree cafe in Bude has lovely lunches and The Old Smithy in Welcombe with its 1960's 1970's decor a place you shouldn't miss.
I'd recommend a stay at Southhole Barns to anyone and we'd love to go back again if we get the chance.

Beautiful, not disappointed

A dear friend stayed at St Mary's Week barn back in July and I happened to call her whilst she was there. She loved it and I logged straight on to the website to see it for myself. When we arrived it was exactly as described, but better. We were early and weary from our journey, but was given a warm welcome by Chris and the barn was ready for us. The barn itself was totally charming, perfect for two and had everything we needed. The barn was spotless and a lovely layout. If you just fancy a relaxing evening in there is even DVD's and video's to borrow which was a really nice idea. A short while after arriving our host Lydia treated us to a home made cream tea which was a delicious treat! The area itself is lovely with truly beautiful coastal walks so bring your walking boots. If you like sandy beaches I would recommend Summerlease in Bude, it is lovely. I wished I had packed my swim suit, but instead enjoyed a paddle. If you have kids they will love it there! A trip to Covelly is a must, but do wear sensible shoes as it's quite a workout! We also found a lovely pub/hotel for lunch called The Hoops and details of this can be found in the welcome pack. Also another must is the The Mill from cream tea, the location and grounds are beautiful. Again details to be found in the welcome pack. I would definitely recommend the barn to friends and family. Enjoy, we did!

Southole Barns

We had read previous reviews. They were excellent. So excellent that the niggling thought intruded, 'surely nothing could be that good!' Well it was and it is. There really was a cream tea on arrival along with a vase of fresh roses. Details you say! But in that detail the whole was reflected. The accommodation cannot be faulted. Seldon was an unobtrusive host, but always helpful when needed. The coastal path is 150 yards away and gives magnificent walking. The local pub, The Old Smithy, is a gem of 70's retro and the food is good too. We would certainly recommend Southole Barns to anyone and, with luck and a following wind, will be back next year.

After the valley turn right: relax and enjoy!

The flats are quiet and in excellent conditions as well as furnished in a lovingly, modern and complete way. The landlords are heartily and obligingly looking after their guests. Your own flat is added by shared equipment (washing machine, dryer as well as cd's and dvd's) and professional leaflets of the area and descriptions of hiking trails written by the landlords.

The buildings are very apart situated but from here you can explore Hartland Peninsula by feet or car in a great manner. The next places to shop and surf (including a surf school) in Bude are only 25 minutes away by car. As well you can make trips to Cornwall, Exmoor and Dartmoor.

We are sure these were not our last holidays in Southole!

Die Engländer fahren sehr rücksichtsvoll.
Unbedingt die Anfahrtsbeschreibung des Vermieters einhalten!
Empfehlung: Mieten Sie ein kleines Auto wegen der teilweise sehr schmalen Straßen.

Southole Barns are located in the small hamlet of Southole within the Parish of Hartland and 1 1/2 miles from unspoilt Welcombe Mouth Beach. The village of Welcombe is less than 1 mile away with its Church, Village Hall, Pottery, our Community Shop and a Thatched Public House 'The Old Smithy Inn' which is well known for good food within the area.

The Barns are 3 miles from the A39 (Atlantic Highway) which gives easy access to the North Devon and Cornwall coastlines, to seaside resorts such as Bude, Widemouth Bay and legendary Tintagel as well as King Arthur's Castle. The picturesque fishing port of Padstow, home to Rick Stein's restaurant is also along this coast.
