A LOVELY STONE-BUILT OLD FARMHOUSE WITH SPECTACULAR VIEWS

Andros Farmhouse Rental Photos and Description

6 Bedrooms, 2 bathrooms + outdoor shower + laundry room + WC, sleeps 9

A lovely, romantic stone-built old farmhouse, modernised but with many Greek features, in about 6 acres of hillside and garden with outstanding views overlooking the southern tip of Evia and the Cavadora straight. The house has five bedrooms, three of which lead off the large living room with two bedrooms (including the master bedroom and en suite bathroom) below the house. The kitchen is large, fitted with an electric cooker and an open fireplace. There are two terraces for outdoor eating, one alcoved between the kitchen and living room, the other above the master bedroom. It is a home, rather than a holiday house and fully winterised. Also on the property is an old olive press building and other stone-built houses.

The garden is on many terraces and planted with almost all the fruits and nuts that grow in the climate, as well as shrubs, flowers and kitchen gardens. There are masses of roses. There is a large plunge pool which is cleaned daily. Our cleaners come in one a week, or more frequently by arrangement. Our gardener has a house on the property and will pick produce for you daily. We produce our own delicious olive oil. We have chickens and geese so fresh eggs are usually available. Apart from animal noises it is very quiet.

How to get there.: From Athens international airport there is a 25-30 minute bus or taxi ride to the port of Rafina.

The ferry takes 2 hours to Gavrion , the Andros port. Ferries are daily, morning and evening.

It is a 20-25 mins car ride to the house

You will need to rent a car at Athens or on the island. It is probably easier to rent on the island. I can arrange this for you. The last 200 metres of road to the house (and on down to the beach) is not tarmac but is easily accessible with any small rental car.

Guestbook comments from the owner
Dear Laura,

I will reply in full when we get back as we have limited Internet connection where we are in Tinos. We had the most fantastic stay at the farmhouse - it was a truly magical week and everyone had such a good time. What a beautiful place you have! We are all so envious! When we are all back at our desks we will be longing to look out at the view from the terrace again. We had so much fun cooking with all the amazing fresh fruit and veg supplied so generously by Joseph and his family. We'd love to come back again.

Thank you for everything. We could not have asked for a better place to stay or a more fun and relaxing break. We loved the beach close to the house with the church on it!! Oh and I almost forgot, the kittens!

Best wishes

Vanessa

ONE OF THE BEST HOLIDAYS EVER!

  • 5 of 5
We stayed in the beautiful farmhouse for a week in July with a group of friends. Everyone agreed they had had one of the best holidays ever - we did not want to leave. The farmhouse is perfect for a group of friends as well as families with children. The setting is gorgeous - wonderful, uninterrupted views with lovely sunsets across the landscape to the sea. Within a ten minute drive are incredible, deserted beaches with crystal clear water. Joseph bought us endless supplies of fresh vegetables, fruit, olive oil and eggs. He was so kind and thoughtful and we enjoyed meeting him and his family. We ate so well and loved cooking with the ingredients on offer. The kitchen is really well equipped so you can cook for lots of people. All the bedrooms are individually decorated, with their own character. There was a constant breeze so we never got too hot, even at night. We would go back at the drop of a hat. This farmhouse is paradise and Andros is a wonderful island. It's really unspoilt which is surprising given how easy it is to reach it from Athens. We hope to plan another stay soon!

STYLISH RETREAT OFF THE BEATEN TRACK

  • 5 of 5
Will definitely go back. This is a beautiful and very special place, perched on a rugged hillside, looking out over the Aegean. We felt very generously provided for with lots of space and different areas for those who wanted a quiet area with a book. In terms of kitchen and other facilities, the house was the opposite of the usual functional holiday let, with minimal equipment - instead there were wonderful large pans for cooking pasta and huge terracotta bowls for salads - lovely. The gardener was extremely helpful and friendly, and it was a wonderful experience to receive vegetables from the garden and olive oil pressed from his trees. The island we saw was dry and rugged with relatively few tourists. We loved the variety of beaches and swimming in the sea, and especially the countryside on the drive over to Vitali. Can't recommend this atmospheric place highly enough.

FANTASTIC

  • 5 of 5
We had a fantastic stay at this beautiful house; full of character and set in stunning terraced gardens which give the most wonderful views. Everything was made very easy for us; we were met off the ferry and shown to the car hire office and then led up and over the winding mountains to this lovely tucked away gem. The house is set on several levels amongst endless flowers. The rooms are comfortable and clean and the house has everything you need; it has the feel of a home rather than a rented holiday house and is very welcoming and relaxing. There are fantastic beaches nearby which were never crowed – and this was August!

BEAUTIFUL HOUSE WITH AN AMAZING VIEW

  • 5 of 5
This is an amazing place to stay with really beautiful views of an extraordinary landscape and the sea. The gardens are particularly beautiful and the splash pool was much more like a swimming pool than a splash pool. The separate bedroom/house down by the pool is especially nice. The house is remote but not too far from two really lovely very quiet coves. Very nice gardener and cleaner nearby to offer help if needed. Highly recommended. Get advice from the owner about car hire as we had problems and she can recommend a good firm.

HEAVEN

  • 5 of 5
Wow a little slice of heaven - no - actually a BIG slice!
This is a delicious property - greeted by friendly care taker / gardener as you step off the ferry - could not be easier ! Car rental no hassle and lead to the property by following care-taker's car!
Welcomed by the intoxicating smell of the mature garden filled with herbs and Jasmine and beautiful flowers - it is a treat for all the senses. We loved sitting out on the veranda enjoying the peace and quiet and oh what a stunning view of the sea! My daughters 4 and 6 thought it was a magical place - so much space and so homely and beautiful inside and out! They loved the cute character-fill cats and the lambs calling to their mums and even found a hedgehog too!
Such a comfortable property with all the necessaries thought of - we particularly
appreciated the mosquito plug ins and nets as well as access to the washing machine and more than sufficient linen for all needs.
If you enjoy peace and quiet and nature then this is the place for you - I have never slept better! The beaches are gorgeous despite the interesting roads to get there - luckily the little rental car is powerful so it is worth reaching the white pebbled bays and cool clear waters and often no-one else but yourselves on the beach!
The towns people are so friendly - we were at the bakery every day and sometimes twice or more.....we are having to diet now having indulged there as well as the Taverna up the road with the horses as well as the other many many more places recommended by the owner!
We were glad to see the pharmacy was a clean and super helpful staff - felt very confident about this especially having young children who may need medicines. The owner of the organic shop near the car rental and ship port parking was also very charming and stocked fabulous wine and various other interesting and yummy products. We felt we had made good friends with these lovely people even in just the week we were there!
This is more than home away from home. It is clean and well equipped and no need for every mod con and that is what relaxing is about! The lady and gentleman caring for the house were also friendly despite limited English and discretely cleaned as well as laid fruits ( and vegetables) of the garden on the table for us every day and even made arrangements for us to have fresh fish ! The owner's mum also lives near the property and is charming and very helpful- our girls were very taken with her. Heaven!!

REMOTE WONDERLAND

  • 5 of 5
We spent 3 weeks in this lovely farmhouse with 2 children (5 and 8) but had visitors come and go also with kids. The house is a good 20-25 minutes from the nearest town but once you are there you don't want to leave. It's not a place for anyone looking for loads of action or distractions but is for those who love good views, cooking, reading and just chilling out and being a little adventurous. The house is built on terraced levels, so lots of stairs that could be a bit precarious; we and the kids loved it but I wouldn't take Gandpa, who's a bit wobbly on his feet. The house is comfortably decorated, feels warm and authentic, very welcoming and not at all precious. You feel at home to explore all the good book shelves and come in a bit salty and sandy, perfect for a holiday. The pool and especially the outdoor shower were enormously appreciated for cooling off especially lovely in the evening. Spectacular views, lovely beaches (empty even in mid-July!), clean clear water, good depth for children. The garden is a wonderland of colour and also provides food; the friendly gardener would deposit a pile of veg every day on our table and fresh mint tea was our daily refresher. Lots of good friendly tavernas abound, different types of beaches to explore, and the island itself is stunning. We are desperate to go back and share with our friends, we would recommend it highly to anyone with an adventurous and curious spirit.

Even in August our local sandy beach, about 1/4 mile long has few people on it. The house is about 20 minutes from the port of Gavrion which is where the ferries arrive. The area is rural with goats and sheep on the hillside and wonderful views.

The kitchen has a lovely old open fireplace for the colder seasons. The living room has a large wood burning stove. Our cleaner comes once a week to clean the house and the laundry is also changed weekly (this is part of the rental price, additional cleaning can be arranged) The outdoor pool is a large plunge pool with approximate dimensions of 5.5 metres long 3.5 metres wide and 1.4 high. Our pool girl spends 2 hours each day keeping clean the pool and its surrounds. During the summer our gardener is likely to be there almost every day and has a cottage on the land, so he can sort out any problems.
