PERFECT IN EVERY WAY!

  • 5 of 5
Marksville Manor was as beautiful as the pictures on the website only prettier. The kitchen had everything anyone could possibly need. The house was very comfortable and the grounds were beautiful. There was plenty of outdoor seating for eating or enjoying nature. The location was close to many attractions. We went to the Civil War Reenactment at New Market Battlefield which was amazing. Needless to say, we loved Marksville Manor and would definitely stay there again.

MARKSVILLE MANOR - A PLACE TO DECOMPRESS AND ENJOY LURAY AND SURROUNDING AREA

  • 5 of 5
Marksville Manor was the perfect home away from home for our family as we celebrated our daughter's wedding in Stanley. In fact, it is the nicest VRBO property we have rented (and we have rented worldwide). Our only regret was that we didn't have more time to take advantage of all the fun and games Joanie and Arthur thoughtfully provide for their guests! I felt like old friends by the time we arrived, as Joanie provided directions and helpful hints regarding the Luray area. When we arrived, there was a delicious homemade pound cake and a basket of fruits, cheeses and crackers in the farmhouse kitchen. We had a small welcome gathering and each guest asked for a tour of the house! The kitchen is well stocked and the table is perfect for family meals. We had lovely weather, so we ate most of our meals outside on the beautifully furnished deck overlooking the yard and pool (and of course there is the backdrop of the mountains). Lots of fun to be had in the backyard with the pool, fire pit, badminton, horse shoes, croquet, bean bag toss, etc. and games, movies and toys inside should there be bad weather. In the morning we had coffee on the porch swing while our grand daughter played with all the toys from the nursery. We really appreciated the beautifully decorated bedrooms with quilts and lace curtains, comfortable beds, soft towels and the quiet. You could easily move around the house without disturbing late sleepers or a napping grandchild! We look forward to a longer stay at Marksville Manor in the near future!

SHOSHANA

Marksville Manor was the perfect getway for my family. We loved the fresh country air and gorgeous scenery. It was so quiet and relaxing. My kids loved the playroom with their own DVD player. The house is spacious and very clean. The pool is refreshing and so much fun!! The owners are very nice people and even left us a welcome basket with drinks and snacks for the whole family. We had a bonfire each night and ran out of firewood. The owners immediately brought us more firewood when we called and asked if we could have some more. It is an ecxellent place to vacation and we can't wait to return!

PERFECTION

  • 5 of 5
We stayed at Marksville Manor for a family reunion. Joan and Arthur are amazing. They made sure that we had firewood every night for the camp fire and that there were no problems with the house. They left a gift basket for us on our arrival and were so pleasant to deal with. I don't think you can find people as nice as Joan and Arthur anywhere.
The house is perfect. Just what we needed for a larger group. It is very spacious and comfortable. It has everything you need and more. The house is well maintained and felt more like a home than a rental house.
We tried to use all the extra's that came with the house, but failed. During the hot days we were in the pool for hours. We used the outdoor grill to cook up some brats for lunch. We played badminton to see how many volleys we could make. We sat around the camp fire in the evening and just enjoyed each others company. We didn't get to the corn hole game, but will save that for our next visit.
Everything was so perfect. We wouldn't change a thing. We look forward to our next stay at Marksville Manor and want to thank Joan and Arthur for making everything so perfect.

RELAXING AND WARM

  • 5 of 5
We just returned from a long weekend at the Marksville Manor and can not speak highly enough of our accomodations. The house was spacious, comfortably fitting three families and with room enough for one to two more. (Note that the pictures on the site make the house seem smaller than it is.) Joan and Arthur live nearby and were extremely warm and welcoming. We arrived to a welcome basket that included treats for the kids and a delicious family-recipe pound cake. Joan and Arthur have also done a great job of providing toys, games and movies for the kids, and there is plenty of room to run around outside and find local wildlife. The kitchen is well stocked with dishes and pots/pans of various sizes (including a pizza pan and muffin tins), and there were plenty of towels, blankets, pillows for all. The house is an easy drive from the DC metro area and close to multiple wineries, Luray caverns (which was a hit with kids and adults alike), and skyline drive. The only (minor) suggestion we have is to bring your own knives-- many of the knives are a bit on the dull side.

ROOM TO RAMBLE AND DELIGHTFUL HOSTS

  • 5 of 5
I had the distinct pleasure, recently, of staying at Marksville Manor with my husband, two small boys, and a variety of extended family members. We had all collected in Luray for a wedding and, I must say, everyone else ended up being envious of our accommodations. If you are seeking a large, well-equipped, spotlessly clean house, look no further. The farmhouse has five bedrooms, offering a variety of sleeping arrangements, plus a great playroom with even more space for small children. In the delightful style of older houses, none of us felt cramped, as if we were on top of each other. The rooms are up and down a variety of stairs and each is spacious in itself. There is an odd feeling of privacy, even as you sleep in close proximity to other bedrooms. This worked out perfectly for us, with our children nearby, yet sleeping peacefully in their own room.

We were never lacking for kitchen equipment or space to sit and enjoy leisurely family meals, either indoors or out. Meanwhile, our kids delighted in the comfy living room and its stash of great children's movies. We didn't have to worry that they were going to smudge the furniture or break anything porcelain. The owners clearly understand that parents cannot let their children loose in a china shop. We really appreciated that chance to relax.

Lastly, if you have good weather, you will delight in the various porches, outdoor seating areas, and amusements ranging from the pool the fire pit. Since the property is situated on a very neatly-kept neighborhood road, your view is great from any place on the property. And if you are planning on sightseeing, you couldn't be more conveniently located, as far as reaching major roads and the attractions of Luray. It's minutes to everything.

I cannot conclude without mentioning the incredible hospitality offered by the owners. We arrived to discover a beautiful welcome basket of treats in the kitchen and the most luscious pound cake, baked just the day before by the owner from a fifty-year-old recipe. Finding all this and a handwritten note of welcome made us feel we were at home, immediately. That's a boon after a long car trip with two little boys!

Book it! You'll be glad.
