My niece was getting married in Luray, VA and we needed a place for various members of the bride's family to stay. Marksville Manor could not have been more perfect. Imagine arriving at a home you have never seen late in the afternoon and hosting the bridal party that night! The party went so smoothly because the house is outfitted with everything you could possibly need (including the kitchen). Joanie's Pound Cake, a beautiful gift basket (with everything for Smores) and cheese from a local market were waiting in the kitchen. Corn hole boards for outdoor fun were stashed by the side of the house. There was ample parking and the chairs on the front porch were so inviting. The house was very clean and the beds comfortable. We are already looking for an opportunity to return! This is a gem of a place!
We recently had the good fortune of spending the week at Marksville Manor. Joanie and Arthur are both amazing. I mainly worked with Joanie prior to our arrival and she was always so friendly and kind. It felt as if I were making plans with an old friend.
When we pulled into the driveway I thought the place could not have been more perfect for the small family wedding we were going to have the following day. The outside of the house was impeccable. The yard was freshly mowed and the flowers looked gorgeous. We couldn't wait to unload and start getting everything set up.
We first entered the house through the side door which led into the mudroom and kitchen. It took my breath away. The pictures do not do this house justice. The house has an amazing layout and you can truly tell that Arthur and Joanie put their hearts and souls into this place.
After walking into the kitchen we noticed a freshly made cake with a heartfelt note from Joanie. The cake was wonderful and you could tell it was made with love. There was also a lovely gift basket on the table that was perfect for our needs while at the house.
Later that day we got to meet Arthur. He was unloading some firewood for us and while talking to him he mentioned they had an arbor we could use for the wedding. It was the perfect finishing touch that we had needed for our big day.
Everyone had a great time while we were there. They all talked about how perfect the house was and how beautiful it was. They also wanted to know how we found this wonderful gem.
We are hoping to be able to make this a regular family vacation. It was the perfect weekend in the perfect place.
Thank you Joanie and Arthur for sharing your beautiful home. We also want to say thanks for the part you played in our wedding going so well. We wish you both the best of luck.
Joanie and Arthur (the owners) have thought of everything before you can even think of it to make your stay comfortable and relaxing. The kitchen has PLENTY of anything you may need to host a party or just a small dinner. We had 11 people for our family reunion stay at the lovely Manor and it was perfect. The rooms are relaxing and large and everyone had their privacy when they needed/wanted it. The house is set up perfectly for those afternoon nappers who want to relax while the others are out at the pool. And boy, did we use the pool!!! The area is very convenient and the Manor is only 1 mile from horseback riding (which we did) and 8 miles from Luray (which we did). It was a very successful family reunion thanks to Arthur and Joanie and my family is not easy to please! :)
Anyone considering Marksville Manor should know how wonderful this property, and the owners truly are!!! The farmhouse lacks nothing for your stay, the owners have taken the time to make sure you are comfortable and well equipped in your "home away from home". The pound cake is wonderful, their hospitality is unsurpassed and the pool was perfect for our group of 11. We spent a LOT of time in that beautiful pool!!! Our son, daughter-in-law and 3 grandsons went hiking nearly every day and saw bears each time!!! The New Market battle exhibition was worth the trip as well. Lots of activities to do at the farmhouse as well. We hope to go back!! Thank you for a GREAT family vacation! Corky & Kelly, Newfane, NY
Marksville Manor was as beautiful as the pictures on the website only prettier. The kitchen had everything anyone could possibly need. The house was very comfortable and the grounds were beautiful. There was plenty of outdoor seating for eating or enjoying nature. The location was close to many attractions. We went to the Civil War Reenactment at New Market Battlefield which was amazing. Needless to say, we loved Marksville Manor and would definitely stay there again.
Marksville Manor was the perfect home away from home for our family as we celebrated our daughter's wedding in Stanley. In fact, it is the nicest VRBO property we have rented (and we have rented worldwide). Our only regret was that we didn't have more time to take advantage of all the fun and games Joanie and Arthur thoughtfully provide for their guests! I felt like old friends by the time we arrived, as Joanie provided directions and helpful hints regarding the Luray area. When we arrived, there was a delicious homemade pound cake and a basket of fruits, cheeses and crackers in the farmhouse kitchen. We had a small welcome gathering and each guest asked for a tour of the house! The kitchen is well stocked and the table is perfect for family meals. We had lovely weather, so we ate most of our meals outside on the beautifully furnished deck overlooking the yard and pool (and of course there is the backdrop of the mountains). Lots of fun to be had in the backyard with the pool, fire pit, badminton, horse shoes, croquet, bean bag toss, etc. and games, movies and toys inside should there be bad weather. In the morning we had coffee on the porch swing while our grand daughter played with all the toys from the nursery. We really appreciated the beautifully decorated bedrooms with quilts and lace curtains, comfortable beds, soft towels and the quiet. You could easily move around the house without disturbing late sleepers or a napping grandchild! We look forward to a longer stay at Marksville Manor in the near future!
