About this property

Secluded Modern Home on 132 Acres, 2 Miles to Purgatory Ski Area, Dogs Welcome

Our 1,500 sq ft, 2 bedroom (queen beds), 2 bath, customs home was built in 2007 and offers the most privacy and seclusion of any property near Purgatory Ski Area as it sits on 132 acres, yet is less than 2 miles from the ski resort, and 25 miles from downtown Durango.

The gourmet kitchen has stainless steel appliances. The main living space and master bedroom feature 52 inch flat screen TV's with 5.1 surround sound. The leather couch in the main living space converts to an incredibly comfortable and supportive queen bed. The large covered porch is a great place for lounging and watching the sun disappear over the mountains in the evening. The house is surrounded front and back with Colorado Rocky Mountain Wildflowers.

The property boarders the Weminuche National Forest to the North and East, which is the largest and most unused wilderness area in North America. There are numerous lakes and ponds on the property, and a road to higher elevations where the views of the surrounding mountains and lakes are spectacular.

If you bring your dog, it will have a great time chasing wildlife and playing in the forest.

If you need more space, we have a 3 Bedroom 3 bath on the property about 1/4 mile from this house.

Please check the availability Calendar as it is updated and current.

A 4WD/AWD with good tires is required December through March. If you plan to drive a vehicle not so equipped, please book elsewhere. Although the roads are extremely well maintained, we want to ensure our neighbors are not adversely impacted by our guests who may not regularly drive on snow packed roads.

We love dogs, as long as they are well behaved, and get along with people and other dogs. Lucy runs free on the property.

Amazing hideaway location!
This was our 3rd stay ( I think ) at this location. Needless to say, we have enjoyed our stays at both of the houses on this property. The host / owner is awesome - and just generally a great guy. Super responsive, friendly, and all that, plus, plus, plus. The places are beautiful, immaculate and fully stocked with everything you might need and then some. if you're clicking around looking for places, stop considering this one or others nearby, just book this one now before it's gone because I'm sure by now Sean has built a list of "faithful" customers are are coming back and will book early ... just like we have.

Great privacy without being far away!
We loved this house! It was clean and supplied with everything we needed. The layout is perfect and each bedroom has it's own bathroom. Sean is a great host and stopped by to say hi. There was room for our 2 dogs to play in the snow. This house is tucked away where you have privacy but isn't far from anything. Our favorite part is the AWESOME front porch!! We'll be back!

Winter Wonderland
My spouse and I needed a relaxing, peaceful get-away, and this VRBO surpassed our needs and expectations. The views and atmosphere can not be described. It was truly picturesque. Sean was truly the most courteous host, giving us a lot of advice. We are from Texas, and the amount of snow we got while in Colorado was completely foreign to us. We also met Sean's adorable dog and fell in love! Another person we met, who I don't want to leave out mentioning, was Tom, who cleans Sean's cabins. Just like Sean, Tom was extremely hospitable and friendly and does an amazing job at cleaning. The cabin was literally spotless! We have already been discussing when we will return to this cabin!

Gorgeous and close to Purgatory
We loved staying at Sean's place. We went for a ski trip and the house is so close to Purgatory. It had everything we needed for a 4 night stay (we mostly cooked at that house). Definitely follow the directions provided by Sean, Google tries to send you too far down the road. Check-in and out was smooth. Durango isn't too far away, but we ended up only going down to town once during our stay. We wanted something quiet, peaceful, and close to skiing which is what we got. Definitely recommend Sean's place!

About the host

Hosted by Sean McCormack

Host profile image
Sean grew up in the area, skiing every weekend at Purgatory, and graduating from Durango High School before leaving to experience life outside this rural community. After 25 years, he and Leslie decided to move back to the mountains of Southwest Colorado to be close to family and all of the outdoor activities they enjoy.

Why they chose this property

This area is the Saudi Arabia of solar energy, with plenty of water and lots of trees. It is easy to build a comfortable and highly sustainable life here. All of the houses, barns, and greenhouses were built using wood harvested from the property. The 27' x 110' greenhouse provides fruits and vegetables not only for Sean and Leslie, but for a number of other families in the area. Standing dead trees are harvested and provide a backup heat source for all the homes and buildings, with an additional 120 cords of wood harvested for sale, providing a carbon neutral source of heat. The trees are harvested primarily to improve the health of the forest.

What makes this property unique

There is nothing better than cozying up to a real wood fire after a full day of skiing, watching the snow fall during the winter, or lounging on the covered deck and watching the sun disappear over the mountains during the summer. The kids will have a great time exploring the forest, fishing in the nearby creeks or lake, biking, horseback riding or the many other activities close by.
