I stayed with my wife and 10 year old son for 3 days in September 2009, and we had a great time. The apartment is really ideally located in a quiet(er) area of Venice, one that you can tell is actually lived in by residents of Venice. It is in a quiet building overlooking a small and peaceful canal, but a short walk to bustling areas. The apartment is nicely furnished with antiques and comfortable and well laid out. We appreciated all the little things provided that made life easier on a short visit (for example salt and pepper, tea and coffee, tons of guide books, wireless Internet, etc).
When visiting Venice the one thing you can count on is walking lots, so having a really pleasant and comfortable base makes a huge difference. Also being able to save a bit of money by cooking "at home" in a well provisioned kitchen is a bonus. One of our best meals in Venice was actually one that we cooked ourselves after picking up fabulous fresh seafood and vegetables from the Rialto Market early one morning and cooking at the apartment.
One final note, the landlady who lives downstairs and gives you the key when you get there doesn't speak much English, but is really extremely nice and pleasant to deal with.
All in all, highly recommended!
