Photos and Description of the Indre-et-Loire vacation cottage rental enjoy complete privacy on the estate of a private chateau

A traditional longère - or country cottage - built in the 1700s by the Marquis d'Andigné for his closest confidante, having been part of the estate of the adjoining château until a few years ago. Monet Les Blanchardières is built entirely of beautiful tuffeau stone, and is one of the very few such properties remaining in the Loire. The cottage is on two acres with original outbuildings including a charming pigeonnier, which was used to send messages by carrier pigeon to and from the château. The adjoining château on 800ha is still the home of the Marquise d'Andigné today.

Located in the Anjou, with Muscadet to the west and Bourgueil and Saumur to the east. The food of the area is world-renowned, and almost every town has a weekly market selling the freshest and most delectable products. The closest château is Montgeoffroy, a 10 minute drive away. A drive east takes you past the most famous châteaux in all of France: Saumur, Ussé, Langeais, Azay-le-Rideau, Villandry, Amboise and Chenonceau. For the practicalities, there are numerous supermarkets and convenience stores in beautiful Beaufort-en-Vallée, a 5 minute drive away. The closest village is the tiny hamlet of Brion, a pleasant 1½km walk or bike ride away. Family activities: There are a wide range of activities for families with children to enjoy, including Château d'Ussé, where the legend of Sleeping Beauty was conceived. There are also many golf courses, the closest being in Baugé. There is a small lake for swimming, fishing, boating etc.

  • High season rates are for 2 or more consecutive weeks booked. Our bilingual caretaker is from England and lives on a farm very close by, for peace of mind. If you are interested she can offer guests a meal, delivered hot upon arrival, home-cooked using ingredients from the farm. Alternatively, she can provide a hamper of the basics, such as bread, milk, cheese etc., to get you started after your journey.

    This service is particularly appreciated by those having a long drive to get to us.

Secluded driveway opening to private 2 acre parkland setting with the magnificent château as backdrop. There are no other properties adjoining - the entire property and pool are exclusively yours! Recently restored to pristine condition. Sympathetic decor in muted colours and natural tones highlight the exposed stonework and natural features, adding to the sense of tranquility. Upstairs: 4 large bedrooms sleeping 8, plus a futon to sleep 2 and a child's cot, a full bathroom (WC, bath, shower). Downstairs: Fully fitted kitchen, bathroom (WC, shower), two large receptions and large utility room (cuisine d'été). Reception rooms each have their own fireplace - main reception includes traditional bread oven. Outbuildings include large barn and traditional stone "pigeonnier". Formal lavender garden and ancient well on the property, fed by an underground stream, next to beautiful mature walnut tree ("noyer"). Southwest sunny aspect. Large private pool: 11m by 5m, or 36' by 17' .

Lovely relaxing hideaway

We had a very relaxing holiday at Monet Les Blanchardieres in July. As there were only 4 of us, one couple and two singles there was plenty of space and the facilities were perfect. (There maybe a bit of a scrum for the two bathrooms if there were 8 to 10 people). The setting of the cottage, private and surrounded by farmland was ideal. The swimming pool was probably the best holiday pool we have come across, clean, large and sheltered for those breezy days. The layout of the cottage was excellent with a good sized kitchen with all the facilities and in the dining room a lovely big table seating 10. The cottage was very clean and we really appreciated the cotton sheets!

The obvious attractions in the area were of course the chateaux on the Loire all with easy driving distance. We ate out several times but as it was so lovely at the cottage we tended to eat at home. The supermarkets were excellent; we preferred the one at Longues as the vegetables seemed fresher, worth driving 10 more minutes to get there. Lots of lovely local markets for fresh vegetables and bread.

Fantastic area for cycling, you could cycle for miles and hardly come across any cars - many nice and flat roads off the beaten track for anyone who wants to take it easy.

Booking the cottage was very simple and the owners were very helpful and friendly. We were very well looked after on site by Marion who was very informative with regards to the local attractions and activities. (Thank you for that delicious bottle of cider which she left in the fridge as part of the welcome pack.)

I would highly recommend the property to anyone who wants a relaxing holiday but also who wants to see the beautiful Loire and its chateaux.

relaxing week in Loire valley

My husband and I had a wonderful relaxing week at this gorgeous house. It is the ideal spot for a relaxing holiday in lovely surroundings. The house was spotlessly clean and very well equiped and has a lovely swimming pool. The surrounding countryside is perfect for cycling and the local towns great for food shopping. Further away are larger towns/cities which have a good selection of bars, restaurants and chateau's to discover. It is a house which we would love to revisit in the future.
