We are world travelers- African safaris, Positano, Santorini, Mallorca, Villa de Este in Lake Como, Barbados and much of the Caribbean, Asia and Villa Fregate is one of the best. We love the island. When we leave the Villa to go to the beach, shop or dine, we return to the Villa, look at ourselves and ask- 'Why did we leave it?' The view, the rooms, the kitchen, the furniture, appliances, internet and wifi plus printer and the attentiveness to detail are tops. We take walks daily just outside of the Villa. Hotel Christopher is down the hill with Mango for lunch and a Sisley Spa. The bakery is a two minute easy drive for daily morning croissants. Pointe Milou is away from the traffic of the main roads and the views are non stop wonderful. The property manager Dawn is excellent and the ladies, Josie and Mona, who clean the Villa are superb. We have been coming now for 7 years- 2 weeks at a time- and are always sad to leave. The good news is we only have 50 weeks until we return. Almost forgot- there is a lot of wind- it is refreshing and keeps the bugs away. In other parts of the island, particularly the leeward side, the bugs- mosquitoes in particular- can be unpleasant but not at Villa Fregate.
UNBELIEVABLE!! Took my wife and three other couples to St. Barts for her 40th. This is the most beautiful, relaxing house I have ever had the privilege to stay in. The house and pool are imaculate and the views are unbeatable. St Barts is a beautiful island, but we always found ourselves wanting to go back to Villa-la-Fregate. I highly recommend this house! Can't wait to go back.
Alot of people think that St. Barts is very glitzy, but you don't have to be a jet-setter to enjoy it. Accomodations are pricey because there are no huge hotels or condos, and availability is limited. But once you're there, you can live quite modestly. There are wonderful small restauants and pizza places on the island that are affordable, plus if you like to cook, the supermarkets have everything you could possibly want. Wine is an incredible bargain on St. Barts (in the stores, not the restaurants!) It's cheaper there than in France, because the St. Bartians don't have to pay the VAT, which is almost 20%. Our very favorite thing to do is to buy a bottle of wine or two, a couple of baguette sandwiches, and drive to one of the eight beautiful beaches and have a picnic lunch (total cost - 15 bucks).
We stayed in this villa last winter for three weeks. It is the best villa we have found on St. Barts in this price range, and we have been going there for ten years. The furnishings are very comfortable, with lots of nice seating areas. There's good lighting, a great sattelite radio stereo/tv system, and wireless internet, plus computer-printer-fax station provided. We had a few days of rain (not normal!) but having to stay inside in this villa is a pleasure. The beds are wonderful, 3 kings and one room with twins (I think that's right, please ask), excellent quality american-style mattresses. The kitchen was very well-equipped, and when I asked if there was an espresso maker, they went out and bought one! Everything is super-clean and well-maintained. Owners are very responsive to any request.
The pool decking is very large with lots of room for entertaining. The views are fabulous! My husband is a runner, and it's also a good part of the island for that, because there is less traffic on this end of the island. You definitely need a rental car here, Gustavia is a 15 min. drive. I don't think most teens would like this, unless they had friends along, because they can't drive, and the nearest "action" is a 20 min walk away.
To sum up, I highly recommend this villa. We are going back in January for two weeks!
