We spent a week in late June at this villa, it was perfect for our family get together (5 adults). Our Irish hosts, Gareth and Patricia Miller were wonderful and very helpful. When we arrived we were delighted. It was our first time renting a villa in France, and this home exceeded our expectations.
The house is spacious, nicely furnished and has a well equipped kitchen with a 6 burner gas stove and a large 2 door fridge, it has everything you might need. Each bedroom is ensuite, making it perfect for 4 couples or two families to share. It sleeps 9. It was perfect for my 87 year old mother in law with ground floor bedrooms and a only a few steps to the pool area. The property is gated, very private and quiet.
The large pool is crystal clear with plenty of lounge chairs and a shaded area.. The villa has a boules court and table tennis, only improvement would be a new TV as the current one isn't great, the owners are considering a replacement but with that said, who wants to watch TV on holiday?? They have an extensive collection of books (English), CD's ( including contemporary, jazz and classical) and a CD player.
The terrace and garden are beautiful, there is plenty of terrace seating and a large gas BBQ for outdoor dining. There is a also a large dining table inside. There are french doors from most rooms, it is bright and airy, we wish we had a 2nd week!.
The small village of Claviers is a 10 minute walk. They have a farmers market Saturday morning. one vendor was selling Paella so that was our first night's dinner. There is a Boulangerie and a small shop for essentials. There is also a nice restaurant (D'Oliviers), a tea room in a lovely garden and a pizza place. We visited Bargemon (10 minute drive), for a couple of dinners (Pescalune and La Campana both great) and for grocery shopping and a look into the gift shops. Major grocery stores are about 20 minutes away in Fayence area, so best to stock up on your way up there, but the shops in Claviers and Bargemon are fine for essentials, in fact the Bargemon grocery shop has a decent selection of wine and cheese, what more do you need? There are several wineries in the area, one only a short drive on the D55 on the way to the, the others about 35 minute drive beyond Callas.
If you are seeking night life you would be better off closer to the coast, but if you want a relaxing holiday in a beautiful home, this is it!
