A great lake but disappointing rental...
The property is okay and it is, after all, Lake Burton. It is very close to the Marina and very easy to launch a boat or jet ski. The owners also have an empty covered dock for your boat which is very nice.
That being said the kitchen is tiny. Everything is in working order but old. The master bedroom and the screened porch smell of dampness.
The dock is very old and the planks are in bad shape. Make sure you use flip flops or you will get splinters. Also, there is no shade on the dock. When we arrived the umbrella was broken.
We have rented many properties on this lake and plan to rent again many times. Though this is a nice old house on a great lake, we won't rent here again.
Owner's Response: Since there has never been this type of review I felt a response was needed. The writer seemed to have enjoyed their stay at the house according to the email received after their stay (see below).
WE ARE HOME IN ATLANTA AND HAD A GREAT TIME AT LAKE BURTON. PLEASE TELL THE OWNERS FROM US THAT MY FAMILY HAD A WONDERFUL TIME IN THEIR HOME. IT IS SUCH FUN TO BE ABLE TO HAVE EVERYONE IN ONE PLACE. THE WEATHER WAS RAINY AT TIMES, BUT WE WERE STILL ABLE TO GET IN PLENTY OF SKIING AND BOATING.
A FEW THINGS THAT I NOTICED WHILE THERE: I TURNED ON THE ICE MAKER AND IT STARTED LEAKING WITHIN AN HOUR, SO I TURNED IT OFF. LUCKILY NO DAMAGE WAS DONE TO THE FLOOR BUT YOU MIGHT WANT TO LOOK IN TO IT. SECONDLY, THE UMBRELLA ON THE DECK WAS BUSTED AT THE JUNCTION AND WAS NOT USABLE. NOT A BIG DEAL FOR US, BUT ALSO THOUGH YOU MIGHT WANT TO EITHER REPLACE IT OR GET IT FIXED.
The dissatisfaction with the house seems to have come after the renter was informed they would be held responsible for the above mentioned broken umbrella. The umbrella was not broken prior to their check-in. It was fine the day before they checked in, I know since I inspected it myself. If they had informed me when they checked in of a problem, instead of after they returned home, the umbrella would have been fixed or replaced immediately. I know there will be occasional damage of an incidental nature, life happens. But, for something of this size, in both cost and time, the renter will be held responsible. I have rented myself and know that if something is wrong at check-in you should notify management immediately so as not to be held responsible and so arrangements can be made for a solution. The dissatisfaction with the house seems to come after being informed that they would be held responsible for the damage. The renter was not happy with this news, hence the unfavorable review. That being said, this was a return renter who was obviously happy enough with the house to rent again (see below).
WE STAYED IN YOUR CHARMING HOME MANY YEARS AGO AND ARE INTERESTED IN SPENDING A WEEKEND THERE IN JULY. IF POSSIBLE, WE WOULD LIKE TO HAVE AN EARLY CHECK IN ON THURSDAY THE 11TH IN ORDER TO GET AS MUCH LAKE TIME IS AS POSSIBLE. THANKS
