If you are looking for relaxation, stunning scenery, and want to sample the Cretan way of life in a thriving village with good access to beaches, then this is the place for you! Villa Irissa is a stone villa with a stunning private pool set in its own gardens, on the edge of Vamos village. Apokoronas is the greenest region of Western Crete, and at its centre is the village of Vamos, an old, traditional working village, with a very active 'preservation society'. Only 5 minutes easy walk from Villa Irissa, there are tavernas, kafenions, the 'Arts Cafe', bank, health centre, bakery and lots of other shops. Lots of choice of beaches within a 20 minutes drive. And don’t worry if “Kalimera” and “Kalinikta” are the only Greek you speak, lots of people here speak English, including both residents and holidaymakers who return again and again to this beautiful area.

Vamos has almost every kind of shop you will need, including bakery, pharmacy, several mini-markets, bank (with ATM), health centre, dentist, etc! Vamos is very much a 'focus' for the villages around it. Although Vamos is a peaceful Cretan village, for those who wish to venture further there are numerous local beaches and coves including Almerida, Kalyves within a 15min drive, offering most water sport activities. The area is famous for its mountains, hiking and gorge walks, including the Samaria Gorge. Being a Greek island, there are many important antiquities sites. Chania, the Venetian city and harbour, is a 30min drive away, and has sophisticated shopping (including banks with ATM), eating and nightlife. Be sure to visit the Market Hall, then stroll through the old streets down to the two harbours, where you have a bewildering choice of restaurants and bars on the quayside. A brilliant place to watch the world go by and the sunset. There are fishing, sailing, boat trips nearby.

Notes: Downstairs, the villa has a large, open-plan space with living, dining and kitchen areas. The kitchen is very well-equipped and the “open plan” leads to easy relaxed living. High ceilings and a gallery give a cool airy spacious feeling. The first bathroom is downstairs. Upstairs are two bedrooms and the second bathroom. The gallery has an amazing feature picture window giving glorious views of the mountains. There are 3 balconies, each giving fantastic views. Each balcony has furniture - easy to enjoy lazy breakfasts. The kitchen also has kettle, coffee-maker and toaster . Outside, the Villa has private pool set in a large garden, with paths meandering through our 3 old olive trees and volcanic rocks. Dining furniture is provided for those who like to relax, eat and drink outside. The views to Souda Bay (7km) from the villa are simply stunning, as is the panorama of the Lefka Ori mountains. Pool: Guests can enjoy the kidney shaped pool and relaxing area. Sun-loungers and Sun-brolly are provided. The 2.5m roman step is a great place to cool down your feet whilst appreciating the sea views. The pool area is surrounded by low railings which will give some protection for very young children.

Car parking: For those who rent a car (strongly advised), the villa has off-road parking for 2 cars at the front of the villa grounds. The villa is isolated from the parking area and road by low railings which will give some protection for very young children.
