CHARACTER FARMHOUSE WITH PRIVATE POOL FOR YOUR USE ONLY

Lunac Farmhouse Rental Photos and Description

PICTURESQUE RURAL LOCATION - HIGH QUALITY FACILITIES - ENCLOSED PRIVATE GARDEN

‘Les Portails’ is a converted farmhouse with an open sided barn located in a tiny hamlet, conveniently situated for local shopping, sporting facilities and sites of historical and cultural interest. Behind the distinctive arched wooden gates feast your eyes on the rolling hills of the Aveyron countryside and absorb its natural beauty and tranquillity.

The house has been carefully restored and furnished substantially in local traditional style retaining features such as exposed beams whilst offering high quality modern facilities. The large enclosed garden, which is not overlooked, is mostly laid to grass punctuated with trees, which can offer welcome shade in the sunny summer months. The swimming pool is located in the garden a few yards from the house and has its own patio for lounging in the sunshine.

A GREAT PLACE TO RELAX AND UNWIND OR HAVE AN ACTIVE HOLIDAY IF YOU PREFER.

The farmhouse has a ‘pigeonnier’, an attractive feature from bygone days when pigeon droppings were prized and sold for profit. There are no longer any pigeons and none of the accommodation is in the pigeonnier!

Accessible directly from the garden, the kitchen has a traditional fireplace with a wood burning stove, a large family dining table and chairs. The kitchen was completely refitted in 2013 with large built in oven, dishwasher and washing machine, induction hob and granite worktops. There is a large freestanding fridge/freezer and combination oven with microwave and grill. The kitchen is comprehensively equipped with cookware and plenty of tableware for eight people. This modern facility will suit those who just want to make a quick snack as well as the most enthusiastic of cooks.

The master bedroom opens off the kitchen with its own window onto the garden. This room has a double bed, wardrobe and bedside tables. Attached is the ensuite, which has a bath with shower over, basin, bidet and WC.

The first floor sitting room is directly accessible from the kitchen, via a locally crafted wooden staircase. It has beautiful views over the garden and hillsides and direct access to a terrace located on the south side of the house. The terrace also has stunning views and an electric awning to protect you from the sun. There is a sofa bed and other easy chairs in the sitting room as well as TV,DVD, HiFi and broadband internet and WiFi. The terrace has a garden table with chairs to seat eight and also has a separate external staircase leading to the garden.

The second and third bedrooms and the family shower room are individually accessible from the sitting room via a short corridor. Bedroom two has a double bed and bedroom three a double bed and two single beds. Each has ample hanging and cupboard space. The family shower room has an enclosed shower, basin and WC.

The open sided barn is directly accessible from the lane and is large enough to accommodate two or three cars. It is also a useful covered space for your children to play out of the sun or if you have a showery day. The traditional ‘cave’ opens off the barn and contains a large spare fridge/ freezer, bicycles and children’s toys.

‘Les Portails’ offers easy access to airports at Rodez (1hr - Ryanair), Toulouse (2hrs - Aer Lingus, BA, easyJet, Jet 2 and Flybe), and Brive (2hrs - CityJet).

The A20 AutoRoute is just over an hours drive away and there are a multitude of non-motorway options for reaching the house.

The Aveyron is one of the largest Departements in France and is the least populated. The area is rich in historic, cultural. geographical and geological sites of interest, including the breath taking Gorges of the Aveyron and Tarn. Among the many nearby towns and villages to visit are Albi, Belcastel, Cordes, Conques, Najac, Rodez, Roquefort, Sauveterre, St Antonin, St Cirq Lapopie and Millau with its famous modern bridge. There are colourful local markets and wonderful local food and wine. Both local independent shops and supermarkets are available in Villefranche de Rouergue, eight miles away or more locally at La Fouillade (5 miles) and Sanvensa (2 miles). There are plenty of restaurants to suit all tastes and pockets within fifteen minutes drive from the house.

There is a wide variety of sporting activities locally including canoeing, horse riding, fishing, tennis and golf. There are many possibilities for walkers in the unspoilt countryside. There is horse riding at Najac as well as canoeing. It is possible to take longer trips along the river from Lagepie to St Antonin.

There is a basic tennis court in Sanvensa and more in Najac, which also has a large open-air swimming pool. Albi and Rodez have excellent eighteen hole golf courses and there is a basic par three nine hole course with a driving range in Villefranche.

Calme et beauté

  • 5 of 5

A beautiful place

  • 5 of 5
What a beautiful spot! This old farmhouse has retained its charm and character while the kitchen, master ensuite bedroom and upstairs bathroom have been tastefully updated.
The kitchen was extremely well equipped and wanting for nothing. Many a Ricard/glass of wine and dinner were enjoyed on the south facing terrace! The views across the valley from the secluded garden were stunning. The pool in the large garden was a further bonus. While Lunac is a peaceful, pastoral hamlet, there are many places of interest in the surrounding area within easy driving distance (the owners thoughtfully provide lots of information about places of interest, restaurants, shopping, services etc.)
Thank you for a wonderful holiday at a delightful farmhouse in a lovely part of France. I highly recommend Les Portals.

Rural France at its best

  • 5 of 5
So good to be back in this glorious corner of France. Everyone has favourite places and this is in my top three. Nice new kitchen since we were last here but the rustic essentials remain the same.
Wonderful garden, superb views. Excellent pool and although chilly in September I was able to swim every day.
Villefranche is stunningly steeped in history. L'Oustal del Barry in Najac is still my favourite place to eat in these parts.
As always a great holiday.

Our favourite holiday stay in Europe

  • 5 of 5
This was a return visit. We have been here several times before at different times of the year with friends and/or with family, our last visit being three years ago with our grandson. Whatever the age ranges of our group Les Portails fits the bill. After a long drive from England by car or a short flight to Rodez it is always a thrill to open the big wooden gates, walk into the garden and take in the view of the glistening pool and panoramic views of the valley and beyond. It is then we really know we are on holiday!
This year an excellent new kitchen greeted us, but as always the rest of the accommodation was spotlessly clean and very comfortable - exactly as described. Whatever the weather there was plenty of room for us all to sit or play in the sun or in the shade of the trees in the large garden or in the cool of the house. The extensive range of cooking utensils and generously sized barbecue make mealtimes easy; eating out on the upstairs terrace and watching the sun go down is a glorious way to end the day. A couple of cold days (late in September) meant we needed to have the log burner in action which was so easy to use, it stayed in overnight and kept the whole house warm.
The surrounding area offered plenty of activities for all. From walks in the lovely countryside around Les Portails to trips further afield – this year we went to see the stunning Millau Bridge, about one and a half hours’ drive away, and enjoyed an Algerian lunch in the interesting little town. We always visit the Thursday market in Villefranche de Rouergue with its mixture of traditional and modern stalls, followed by a beer in Les Arcades overlooking the square which is currently undergoing a makeover. We look forward to seeing the fountains in action on our next visit! The museum has several rooms offering a range of historical artefacts and art exhibits – well worth a visit.
A visit to the charming historical village of Najac is a must. Climb to the top of the castle keep for the most stunning views. Our favourite place to eat is in Najac at L'Oustal del Barry. Always a warm welcome and exceptional food. A first for us this year was a visit to Belcastel. The castle is privately owned and has been open to the public for only a few years. It has been most sympathetically restored with parts left in ruins for visitors to appreciate. It is well worth a visit. We picnicked by the river and soaked up the warmth of the sun and the view of this pretty historical village.

Home from home

  • 5 of 5
We have just returned from a wonderful 2 week stay at 'Les Portails', a wonderful retreat in rural France. It was everything we hoped it would be, peaceful with beautiful views and the farmhouse was extremely well equipped.

So many places to visit, 2 weeks was not long enough! Some of our favourite places included Villefranche (particularly the Thursday market), Cordes, Narjac and Belcastle. My daughter and I went horse riding just outside Narjac, highly recommended.

Plenty of great places to eat, however it was nice just to shop at the local supermarket and eat at Les Portails with a nice glass of local wine staring at the view!

The swimming pool was fantastic and what a lovely garden, very private and plenty of shade if required.

I highly recommend Les Portails, a lovely home oozing with French character. All the instructions are very clear and you will have everything you need.

Thank you for a lovely holiday.

Delightful Holiday Location

  • 5 of 5
This was our 7th visit to Les Portails in 20 years - which speaks for itself!
As soon as one opens the impressive gates one enters a charmed world. Completely private and secluded, yet with wonderful uninterrupted views over miles of undulating hillsides, the house and garden offer a most relaxing experience. At the same time there is plenty of activity to savour within easy driving distance. Local towns and villages are exquisite - too many to mention all, but Najac, Cordes and the (Thursday) market town of Villefranche are a must. Walking, fishing, kayaking and golf are among local activities to suit all ages. The golf course at Albi is superbly manicured, at Rodez it is more rugged but also with great views; both towns also have splendid cathedrals worth a visit, as is the Lautrec museum in Albi.
The house is charming, immaculate and fully equipped so one can enjoy bbq's in the garden or cooking (provisions from Villefranche are of the highest quality). There are many excellent options for eating out - our current favourite for a real treat is the Oustal del Barry at Najac. The owners, and previous guests, have left comprehensive information about all these activities, indeed the customer service and helpful information provided by the owners is second to none.

All in all this is a delightful home in which to spend one's French holiday, and we have no hesitation in recommending it to anyone who enjoys or wishes to sample the French countryside.
