Just 10 km West of Cherbourg, your gate to la Hague and Val de Saire, to rugged coasts and to good food. Gite for weekly rental in the park of the listed castle of Dur-Ecu (16th c.). 300 m from the beach… where the British navy landed in 1522.. and 1758 (trust the Admiralty for keeping good records), and with full view of the coast. From your windows you see the site of one of the most famous naval battles of the American civil war, between the Confederate's Alabama and the U.S.S. Kearsarge. Beautiful beach and cliff walks, short and long, from your doorstep. These watermills were built around 1820, by the family of the present owners, to grind barley and wheat. Recently renovated, tastefully and comfortably. Conveniently near to all shops, services, but in rural setting. Normandy has many 16th c. castles, but very few of them stand by the sea, and even fewer offer holidays cottages for rent. Come and join the magic of Manoir de Dur-Ecu ! For city lovers, CHERBOURG is only 8 miles away offering colourful farmers markets, harbour side cafés and brasseries for local catch, night clubs and casino. The port is the main destination for yachtsmen sailing from England and going onto the Channel Islands. Walk in the medieval streets and find cute boutiques. A couple of excellent restaurants and plenty of brasseries, for simple, satisfying meals. A great choice of bars. And a McDonald. The ill fated Titanic made her first and last call at the Gare Maritime, at that time a luxury terminal for transatlantic liners . Now it houses a superb center dedicated to the underwater world complete with a best stocked aquarium and a huge, recently decommissioned nuclear submarine (without the nukes) that one can visit. On the practical side, a few gigantic hypermarches offer excellent value and choice. The nearest one is 5 mins driving. SAIL, WINDSURF, KITESURF, SURF: Excellent sailing club and school in 5min drive away.

The watermills were built around 1820, by the family of the present owners, to grind barley and wheat. Recently renovated, tastefully and comfortably. The mill is on two levels and can sleep 2 people in comfort, plus 1 child. One bedroom with a double bed (1m40 wide) + a child’s bed, separated by curtains. En suite bathroom with shower and toilet. Living room with sofabed, CD, DVD reader, Satellite TV but French channels only and so so reception, kitchen with microwave/classic oven, washing machine. Terrace facing the sea with garden furniture. 1.4km from shops and services. The price includes water and electricity within the limit of 8 kWh per contracted night, kWh additional being charged at a rate of 0,13 €/kWh. We suggest a package of 30€ for 440 kwh /week for the heating season, that is usually adequate. Rented as gite (no sheets, do your own cleaning).
