Gocek has been declared a special environmental protection area. Although many locals earn most of their income from tourism, life in the villages and mountains around Gocek continues much as it has done for centuries. The village with its pedestrianised walkways, shops and restaurants, many of which are by the water's edge, provides three major banks with exchange facilities, several well stocked mini markets, and an excellent Sunday market with clothes, household items and all kinds of fresh local produce.
Favoured by yachtsmen, the village comes alive in the evening when boats moor up for the night. You can sit and enjoy a quiet drink watching the sun go down over the mountains, and dine in one of the many waterside restaurants. Turkish cuisine is varied and is based on local fresh produce.
