'We both loved this idyllic cottage in a magic spot. I was hypnotised by the view of the sea, the ever changing picture...the terrific sunsets outside the window....Fantastic cottage - there is nothing we wanted for - a real home from home and so much attention to detail. Look out for the Dolphins we've seen them a number of times - I imagine the novelty will never wear off! Johnshaven is a lovely place!' - Margaret, Geoff, Sarah and Andrew. No extra charges for towels, linen, electricity, oil central heating,dogs or visiting friends and relatives! This deceptively spacious beach front cottage is ideal, both for a couple wanting a quiet and relaxing break, and a fun base for a family holiday. Situated in the picturesque fishing village of Johnshaven,between Aberdeen and Dundee, the cottage provides an ideal base for relaxing and also exploring.

Accommodation: All accommodation is on the ground floor. (Although we have an accessible but undeveloped 'Dolphin Spotting Deck' in the loft, complete with telescope and binoculars!) Heating is free and provided by oil-fired central heating, a coal fire and an electric stove. All oil, electricity and linen is included in the price. The bright kitchen is fully equipped, with a fan oven cooker, washer/dryer, fridge/freezer, and a microwave. A fire blanket and smoke alarm are also included. (As are flasks, torch, portable barbecue, small fan heater and hot water bottles.) (Hopefully we have thought of everything! Let us know if we haven't!). The good sized lounge overlooks the beach and the view from the window provides constantly changing sea-scapes as you enjoy the comfort of two large 3 seater settees, set in front of a cosy coal fire. A dining table in the lounge allows for comfortable seating for 5/6 people.

You can relax further in this room with TV, DVD Player, Video and CD Music system. A charming double bedroom overlooking the garden, provides a comfortable and restful environment. The second bedroom enjoys a beach view and is furnished with two single beds and an Ikea single sofa bed with comfortable mattress. This spacious room can also double as an ideal play area. The bathroom has been upgraded Jan 08 and has toilet, washbasin and an electric shower over the bath. Towels are provided free of charge. Outside:Garden chairs are stored in the front Porch and can be used in the front garden area, to sit and have a cup of tea or glass of wine and watch for passing Dolphins. The large enclosed back garden provides a safe and secure area for small children. The local park backs onto the garden wall. A picnic table with benches is ideal for a lazy breakfast or a family barbecue in the evening.

Lovely cottage in a lovely location, warm, cosy and very well equiped.
The area has everything to offer.
Owner's Response: Yes the cottage is a good base to explore the coast, Royal Deeside, the Whisky Trail with it's many distilleries and of course the Castle Trail. There is a great range of tourist booklets in the cottage describing events and places to visit in the area.

A veritable haven

We had an very enjoyable week in Johnshaven. The cottage was immaculate with every facility we could want. It was beautifully decorated and thoughtfully furnished. The garden was so lovely to sit in we ate outside most days. There were lots of interesting walks around. Johnshaven itself was picturesque and the villagers very couthy and friendly. The local shop provided everything we needed and the opening times were great.

We toured a bit locally but didn't really want to venture far as the cottage and village were so comfortable and welcoming. However there are many places to visit is you are so inclined.

The owners were on hand and very attentive if required but never intrusive.

We would recommend this cottage with confidence.
Owner's Response: As residents ourselves of Johnshaven we agree that the village provides a quiet and relaxing atmosphere for your holiday. Although only 25 miles from bustling Aberdeen for those who want to shop in the most modern malls, the cottage is a wonderful base for walkers, birdwatchers, fishermen and golfers.

Very nice cottage in a dramatic place

I'v been to Puffin Cottage for a week with friends and all of us found the cottage really nice, cosy and comfortably fornished. You can have a look to the sea just in front of the house and this is really relaxing. If you are as lucky as we have been you can even spot dolphins just along the shore. The cottage is located quite at the end of the village, so it's a quiet location and it's only five minute walk from pub and post office (and that's perfect in my opinion). Nontheless you have best fresh/smoked fish ever (Gourdon-five minutes by car).
Mrs Wardle is ready to welcome you with a charming smile and all of her kindness. I've been here a couple of times and I enjoied the stay really much. I will definitely come back soon
Owner's Response: We are delighted to have had so many visitors from around the world and especially those like our friend from Italy who have come back and visited with us several times. Our Puffin Cottage in Johnshaven provides an ideal base for exploring the Aberdeenshire countryside and coast.
The village is quiet and restful and you can chill in the garden with a bottle of wine or stride out in the nearby glens.
Fresh lobsters are available from the Lobster Shed in Johnshaven and nearby Gourdon provides several fish houses which provide both fresh and smoked fish. You must try the hot smoked salmon!
Dolphins are spotted quite often during the year and our visitor book can testify to this. A bench at the front of cottage looking directly out to sea and a telescope up in the loft help in the search.
