Les Chenes is on the edge of the Troncais Forest - the largest managed oak forest in Europe. Within the Forest there are several lakes with beaches for swimming, watersports and fishing and miles of forrest tracks and quiet lanes for walking, horse riding and cycling.
From the 14th century, Allier was the home of the Bourbon Kings of France, and is second only to the Loire for the number of chateaux and grand houses. If gardens are your passion, then you will have plenty to choose from. For formal town gardens, the city of Bourges is hard to beat, but there are also delightful rose gardens, abbey gardens and spectacular arboretums within easy reach of Les Chenes.
For wine lovers, the vineyards of St. Pourcin and Chateaumeillant are close by, and Quincy, Reuilly and Sancerre are easily reached as part of a day trip.
In July and August the Bourbon Music Festival takes place at local venues and you can visit the opera at Vichy throughout the year.
