We are an Anglo-Italian family and we have two twin boys who are totally bilingual. We live in England but whenever we can we love to spend time at Villa Pieroni where we have many happy memories. The villa is certainly the ideal place to enjoy family and friends.
Mrs Teresa Ingham Brooke purchased this villa in 2002
We were looking for a house near Lucca and we loved the villa at first sight. The house is grand, spacious but very cosy at the same time. The beautiful terrazza is the ideal place to have meals and drinks late at night. The sound of the cicados in the summer and the fire flies in May and June make the place magical. We have spent there many happy evenings simply talking, listening to music, relaxing.... A bit about its history. Villa Pieroni was built in 1911 by Giuseppe Pieroni for his wife. His family developed close links with the Kennedys and many other high profile people. At the villa we have extracts from a book about his life. Villa Pieroni has many stories to tell. During the Second World War became an American HQ when the Allies had broken through the nearby Gothic Line.
The area is incredibly beautiful and caters for every taste. If you don't like traveling too far you can enjoy little trips to our local beautiful medieval towns like Barga, Castelnuovo and many others. If you like nature there are lovely walks in the nearby mountains where you can enjoy watching stunning views and wildlife. The cities of Lucca and Florence are very close and the white sandy beach of Viareggio is nearby. The area is justly famous for its Slow Food and there are a lot of restaurants or 'cantine' where you can taste food with a glass of delicious wine. Local people are lovely and we have been fortunate to find a charming representative for the house, and a really helpful local guide, too.
Situated in the beautiful Barga countryside, Villa Pieroni is an ideal base for hill walking, horse riding, golf and wine tours. The beach at Viareggio is a short drive as is the famous cave network, Grotta del Vento. Medieval Barga is renowned for art and antique shopping, regional cuisine and jazz.
