Laredo is a small, bustling, fishing town full of tapas bars and restaurants serving real Cantabrian food and fresh fish. Laredo is known as the "capital of the Emerald Coast". It occupies a prominent position amongst tourist centres in Spain offering excellent nightlife and dancing in the bars in the old town. This is due to it's priveleged location on the sea and the beach "La Salve". It's position is further highlighted as it is set in the the beautiful mountainous countryside of Cantabria
The town offers an excellent bus service for travellers who wish to leave their cars at home, with regular buses into Santander and Bilbao and along to the coastal villages and beaches of Noja, Isla, Santona and Castro. Laredo is accessed easily from Santander (Ferry and Airport) approximately 30 minutes drive and Bilbao (ferry and airport) is approximately 40 minutes drive.
The Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao offers the latest exhibitions. Bilbao has museums, great food and shopping.
Saturday markets are held in Ampuero and Santona. Castro on Thursday and Colindres on Friday.
Laredo has an newly built golf driving range and pitch and putt, there are golf courses in Santander.
This is an excellent area for rural tourism, walking, cycling, birding and canoeing. The sandy beach of Santona is approximately 15 minutes drive away. The surfing beaches of Noja and Isla are 20 minutes drive away. The Picos de Europas mountain range is about a 2 hour drive away and skiing in the winter in Alto Campo is an hour away. There are amazing walks along the cliffs behind the apartment and along to the surrounding villages.
