Further details for this vacation apartment rental in Cantabria, Spain

Laredo is a small, bustling, fishing town full of tapas bars and restaurants serving real Cantabrian food and fresh fish. Laredo is known as the "capital of the Emerald Coast". It occupies a prominent position amongst tourist centres in Spain offering excellent nightlife and dancing in the bars in the old town. This is due to it's priveleged location on the sea and the beach "La Salve". It's position is further highlighted as it is set in the the beautiful mountainous countryside of Cantabria The town offers an excellent bus service for travellers who wish to leave their cars at home, with regular buses into Santander and Bilbao and along to the coastal villages and beaches of Noja, Isla, Santona and Castro. Laredo is accessed easily from Santander (Ferry and Airport) approximately 30 minutes drive and Bilbao (ferry and airport) is approximately 40 minutes drive. The Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao offers the latest exhibitions. Bilbao has museums, great food and shopping.

Saturday markets are held in Ampuero and Santona. Castro on Thursday and Colindres on Friday. Laredo has an newly built golf driving range and pitch and putt, there are golf courses in Santander. This is an excellent area for rural tourism, walking, cycling, birding and canoeing. The sandy beach of Santona is approximately 15 minutes drive away. The surfing beaches of Noja and Isla are 20 minutes drive away. The Picos de Europas mountain range is about a 2 hour drive away and skiing in the winter in Alto Campo is an hour away. There are amazing walks along the cliffs behind the apartment and along to the surrounding villages.

Comfort in Cantabria

suet United Kingdom
Review Submitted: October 6, 2009 Date of Stay: September 2009
Our first trip to Cantabria and Laredo.
Laredo is a great location for discovering Cantabria. A real surprise offering historical interest, great beaches and an abundance of restaurants and bars.
Description of the accomodation was accurate. It was centrally located in the medieval part of town, close to shops, restaurants and bars. It provided very spacious accommodation for two. The climb up three flights of stairs did not impede our stay.
There are plenty of walks in and around Laredo, safe swimming, a lively harbour with boat excursions. It is in close proximity to access the cities of Santander and Bilbao. A visit to the Guggenheim Museum is a must.
The local people were very friendly and helpful.
A car is desirable to get around, although there is a good bus service.
A thoroughly enjoyable stay. Cantabria is a beautiful region of Northern Spa.in

Two Excellent Holidays

Plymothoian Plymouth, UK
Review Submitted: October 1, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
We have been to the flat twice on a family holiday with two small children. The flat is located in the middle of this busy Spanish resort. The bus station is a two minute walk away, ideal for us because we travelled without a car. There is plenty of choice for food shops within easy walking distance, as well as a good range of cafes and restaurants. The flat is high enough up so that any noise from the streets and square below is not intrusive. It is well equipped, with an excellent oven and ceramic hob in the kitchen. It is excellent value for money in terms of the space available for the price. We enjoyed being able to watch Spanish digital TV. We felt at home there and our children settled into it quickly. The beach, which is safe and clean, is less than ten minutes’ walk away.

Laredo is an authentically Spanish resort. Don’t go there if you are expecting everyone to speak English – they don’t – or if you want a standard European holiday experience. A few French people still go there – the resort was extensively developed with French money – but most visitors are from Spain. As a way into seeing how the Spanish do things and experiencing Spanish culture, it is excellent. It is also an excellent base for exploring the northern coast by bus, with regular connections to Bilbao and beyond to the east and to Santander in the west.

Laredo Review June 2009

Enjoyed 6 nights at this well furnished apartment. Location cant be beaten if you want to be in the centre of Laredo. The apartment was comfortable and met our needs for this short stay (couple plus one teenager). Parking nearby can be difficult at peak times, but we managed. Nearby beach (15 mins walk) is excellent and cafes, bars etc are literally on the doorstep. On the 3rd floor, up stairs, but we had no problems. No regrets on choosing this apartment.

Shona and Andrew

SHARK family Tayport, Fife, Scotland
Review Submitted: September 24, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
We stayed in this apartment for 9 days in July as part of our summer hoilidays and we loved it. With three daughters of differing ages there was plenty to keep everyone happy - they all loved the 5 minute walk to the beach. There are loads of shops and restuarants of various types from touristy to genuine local. The best ones are right outside the apartment - great local food, and I loved going to but fresh bread and fruit at the shops 2 minutes walk away. Situated right on the edge of the old town you really feel part of an old culture. My husband particularly liked sitting on 'his' balcony and watching the world go buy. The only possible down side would be if you like early nighs as the old town is buzzing with people quite late at night as they all go out to walk and eat but if you want to join in with that it's great. The apartment itself was clean, simple and welcoming and very comfortably accomodated the five of us. Internet access in the town was limited but we found that the Casa General just round the corner from the apartment had free WiFi which you could even pick up from outside the building. Parking was a little tricky but there is a large street carparking area along the main street and a drop off zone beside the apartment. The plaza outside the apartment was being refurbished at the time which made things a little trickier but this will be lovely when it is finished (which it probably is already). There is easy motorway access to lots of other beaches including some great surf ones - Somo beach is awesome and they have a great surf school there (with english speaking instructors too). Santander and Bilbao are an easy journey away and you can even get a wee ferry to Santander rather than have to drive in.
