On the site of the 17th Century farmhouse 'Mirathon' there are four outbuildings carefully restored to form individual gites and a pool Each holiday cottage may be rented individually or as a group. Aquitaine is the largest sleeping eight people. A well-appointed property with thick stone walls, it still retains many of the charms of the 17thC farm. This tranquil area with miles of undulating unspoilt countryside cannot fail to attract all tastes and ages with Bergerac to the north and Bordeaux to the west. The gite is surrounded by activities suitable for everyone.You can visit small 13thC bastide towns, explore Chateaux, go kayaking, horse riding, wine tasting, cycling, play tennis or discover fanatastic restaurants -whatever. However, if you simply want to relax in beautiful surroundings, taking the occasional dip in the stunning 11m x 5m Roman pool and lying in the sun with a glass of wine in your hand; the choice is yours.
Aquitaine is spread over two floors and provides all the modern conveniences of self catering accommodation. It has been tastefully renovated and restored and furnished to a high stanard retaining many of its original stone walls and exposed beams.On the ground floor is an open plan living room with comfy sofas and chairs and DVD/Video/TV. Leading off the well appointed kitchen, (large fridge/freezer, microwave, full sized cooker complete with dishwasher).The French windows open onto a private 5m x 3.4m covered terrace with table and chairs and barbecue. Another step takes you onto the extensive lush lawns which are surrounded by cascades of flowers and bushes and you can hear the gentle tinkling of the fountain in the fishpond. Beside the fishpond is a large shaded barbecue with a generous seating area.
There are extensive secure areas to sit in the sun or in the shade of a tree, play games or ride bikes.
Also on the ground floor of the gite is a double bedroom with an additional single bed - if required - shower room and WC. Upstairs you will find a prestigious large double bedroom (in which can be easily placed a cot or another single bed) with fantastic relaxing views of the countryside. Across the landing is shower room and WC and then a further bedroom with three single beds.Surrounding the fenced/alarmed 11 x 5 metre salt water pool, which has steps at one end slopes to a depth of 2m, are abundant flowering gardens and a large sun terrace with the huge banana trees providing welcome shade.Sun loungers, paddling pool, parasols and a shower are provided.Guests can enjoy the indoor playroom, complete with table tennis and board games .
The attractions of the region are legion - the rivers, the Chateaux, the scenery, the ancient towns and villages. You are ideally placed to see the best of this wonderful area with many local day and evening markets, fabulous restaurants catering for all tastes and child friendly and of course, wine tasting as Duras is very close to the appelations of Bordeaux, Graves, Saint Emilion, Bergerac and the delightful sweet wines of Monbazillac and Sauternes. Golf enthusiasts will love the renowned Chateau de Vigiers course (30 mins) with other courses 8 kms away. Not to be missed out of any itinerary is Bergerac with its fine old buildings, boat trips along the Dordogne river kayak tours and adventure trails for young and old.With sunflowers, rivers, Chateaux and bastide towns, this is a pocket of land with all the riches, beauty and diversity for which rural France is renowned.
