The village of Louargat in the ‘department’ (county) of Cotes d’Armor is just off the main tourist routes and is well known locally for its picturesque setting, beautiful church & standing stones or ‘Menhers’. Louargat boasts many individual shops - including boulangerie, supermarket, chemist and tabac. Also – two bars, a hotel, restaurant, creperie, bank and post office.
The local market is in the village square every Thursday, there are numerous other lively local markets in the neighbouring villages of Begard and Belle Isle en Terre for farm fresh produce and of course large hypermarkets a short drive away in Guingamp, Lannion and Morlaix. The local beaches are among the best in Brittany and are only a short drive away.
I live in Penzance, Cornwall and have owned a property in France for the last 20 years. I visit the cottage often and enjoy the laid back way of life the French have. I love the traditional get togethers that all the villages have and love exploring new places. I enjoy the food served in the local restaurants and creperies, washed down with a glass or two of wine. I just love France, the friendly welcoming people and their relaxed way of life .
Sylvia Care purchased this cottage in 2006
Because its in an idyllic situation, quiet, private and close to all you could want. The house is very spacious and I have tried to make it home from home.
Fantastic weather, great holiday. The month flew by. Great beach at POt Blanc, very intersting. Good bars and restuarnts near Callac.
Wonderful house, after 40 years of "Giting in France" ir rates up there with the best.
Local Market every Thursday mornings and every day in other surrounding villages. Many local 'Fest Noz' during summer months (Traditional dancing and fete) advertised locally. Visit the Mene Bre, the highest point in Brittany - magnificent views. Picturesque village church, quaint Chapelle St Paul near the cottage (used twice a year). Beaches, horseriding, cycling, walking, fishing and golf all available nearby. There is always plenty to see and do even out of seaon. Many people return year after year.
The cottage is 20 minutes from the coast and is central to all amenities. Also being close to Roscoff, only 40 minutes, and approx 1.5 hours from St Malo ferry ports, and approx 1 hour from Brest or Dinard airports, the cottage makes an ideal base for exploring Brittany. There are many local attractions to visit, also lots of historic towns and villages. Many beautiful country walks, two local chateau's, lovely rugged coast lines to walk and many sandy coves beaches.
