Pachino Cottage Rental Photos and Description

Situated right on the seafront at Marzamemi, a picturesque village with beach

Four fisherman's cottages situated right on the seafront at Marzamemi. They have been tastefully restructured and renovated with an eye to conserving the heritage of the local area. Some of Sicily’s finest natural beaches are found nearby. Casa Sarda and Casa Spada are the closest to the sea. Casa del Pescatore Tonno is the most spacious cottage. Casa Seppia is the smallest, but very romantic. The cottages are situated right on the promenade of Marzamemi, which is an ancient fishing village in the extreme southeast of Sicily. From the terrace, there is an incredible view of the village, its small port and the vividly painted boats. The tradition of all things marine is still very much alive in Marzamemi today. Only recently has it become a popular destination for Italians who enjoy the combination of the area’s natural beaches and the vibrancy of an authentic coastal village. The village boasts many restaurants, pizzerias and shops selling delicious local produce such as locally caught and processed tuna and swordfish or the famous cherry tomatoes from nearby Pachino.

Please note that these houses are very close to the main square of Marzamemi, where the Sicilians in the weekend (and in summer every day) enjoy their evening walk and some bars put the music loud until late. The proximity to the centre of the village makes these houses ideal for a stay at any time of the year. In winter the gas heater can be used to heat the houses.

The 'Case del Pescatore' have also Internet wireless.

About Giulia Lattanzio

We have been with Homeaway since 2006, proposing houses that are able to unfold Sicily's colours and charm at best.

Houses with quality furnishing in unique locations, with incredible views or with a pool, always accurately selected in order to satisfy our main wish: to see you falling in love with Sicily just like we did.

We provide you with transparent information and true pictures. What you see is exactly what you get. We will advise you as much as we can about travel info, transfers and car rental.

Dinners in villas and other extra services can also be arranged. Finally, our prices are final rates! There are no hidden additional costs. We are flexible with your arrivals and departures and if you need a late check-in this is usually possible.

Why Giulia Lattanzio chose Pachino

We chose this house for its authenticity, for the feeling of a nostalgic, dreamy past that is able to convey. A house so simple and yet so emotionally powerful: the ancient fishing tradition and the lifestyle of this Sicilian village is all there.

The best holiday in years!

  • 5 of 5
We rented this cottage on the sea front at Marzamemi and loved it. We had a fabulous week and spent almost all out time on the deck outside reading and enjoying the view.

In the early morning the quiet lapping of the water makes it a magical place to be. On the weekend the square was livelier during the evening - but that just made it more interesting and changed the view. We had many people coming to ask how they might rent the same property.

Add in the local bars and restaurants and fish and vegetables from the market in Pachino - made the stay so perfect.

The property is basic, with just a bathroom, bedroom and kitchen/sitting room - but has everything you might need.

The owner was charming and helpful - helping us find local attractions and where to buy good etc.

We're going back and plan to rent the two properties next door to spend a week with friends! I believe this is the best recommendation.

Cute cottage in a charming village

  • 5 of 5
I have been here twice. Marzamemi offers great fish restaurants and a charming, very Mediterranean atmosphere. On Saturday the music is loud until around 2 o'clock. The cottage itself is in the center of the village on the promenade, only 3 meters from the shores. You can here the waves in the bedroom. Can't wait to be back here.

Peaceful week in a simple setting

  • 4 of 5
We had a beautiful holiday staying at Casa del Pescatore - Spada. We spent a very idle week visiting the surrounding area, but mostly sitting out on the terrace watching the world go by and listening to the sea! The only potential negative was when we arived and the village was more like San Antonio in Ibiza than tiny village in Sicily, but liuckily (in May). it was only party night on the Saturday night and it was actually quite amusing once we'd got over the shock. The rest of the week was really quiet, the cottage is quite basic, but we prefer it like that, very comfortable and with everything you need. The keyholder (Paolo) was really helpful with instructions on how everything worked and where to buy food etc

Very disappointing

  • 1 of 5
We were very disappointed with the accommodations at the Fisherman's Cottage/Casa Pescatore

The bedroom smells musty and moldy and is so humid that the sheets felt wet when we got into bed each night. The pillows are hard (probably because of the humidity) and the mattresses are lumpy. The bedroom overall is very uncomfortable and we considered leaving the rental and simply going to a hotel as it was really affecting our sleep.

The photos showed a shaded porch. We did not have a shade placed until the 5th day of our stay and therefore were forced inside or to go to restaurants during the hot part of the day.

We woke up every morning with trash (cups, cigarette boxes, etc) on the front porch and on the back stoop and had people actually looking through the windows and walking on the porch throughout the day. There is absolutely no privacy.

Also, there were ants all on the kitchen counters when we arrived and several of the dishes were dirty. There were no cleaning supplies to help us get things in order.

Finally, even though the house is advertised as self-catering, it does not have some of the most basic items that one needs to prepare even simple meals:

No Dishwashing soap and only a Dirty, used Kitchen sponge to clean dishes

No knife sharp enough to cut bread or an apple

The coffee maker handle heat ups and cannot be lifted off the stove because there is no pot holder

Only 1 kitchen towel provided for a week rental

Only 1 small spoon in the whole house

No way to toast bread (no oven, no grill, no toaster)

Overall, we would not recommend this rental unless of course all you care about is the view, which is gorgeous.

Lovely fisherman's cottage on seafront

Lovely fisherman's cottage on seafront
  • 4 of 5
We visited this house in June 2009 - the weather was hot and sunny, and the house was located right on the seafront. At the end of the terrace you could step right down on to the rocks that began to shape the harbour wall.

We found Marzamemi to be a strange but nice place. Whilst there are plenty of bars and restaurants, there was no supermarket or bakery (or at least we didn't find one!) so we made sure that we did this on plenty of days out.

Being our first time in Italy, we had no idea about the Italian system of private beaches / lidos. In the UK, beaches are almost always open to the public and therefore it seemed a little strange that in some places we needed to pay to sit on the sand. Nevertheless, we found a great free beach at Lido de Noto - very clean and easily accessible.

The only thing about the property we found to be a little frustrating was that other tourists seemed to think it was find to walk along our terrace. In fact, on two occasions, people walked into the house, thinking it was a quiet restaurant!!! But hey, there are worse things that could have happened.

We flew to Palermo from London Stansted. Beware - Marzamemi is a long way from Palermo (around 4 hours) but I think Catania airport would have been a better option.

All in all a good holiday - we'll probably return to Sicily as we'd like to explore other parts!

- The prehistoric caves in Pantalica

- Portopalo/Capo Passero, the most southerly tip of Sicily

- Syracuse

San Lorenzo, which lies 2 kilometres to the north of Marzamemi, marks the beginning of one of the most beautiful stretches of the Sicilian coast. Here the shore is characterised by golden sand beaches, turquoise seas and white limestone rocks. San Lorenzo borders on the natural reserve of ‘Vendicari’. Here you’ll find a breathtaking variety of Mediterranean flora and fauna, exotic beaches and Byzantine ruins. It is also a veritable oasis of rest and tranquillity for an array of bird species. Heading south towards the south-eastern tip of Sicily, you find a fishing village called Portopalo. Taking the road from Marzamemi to Portopalo, but turning off before an impressive castle on the sea, one can turn left and visit the old ‘Tonnara’, one of the most scenic and extraordinary sights to be seen in Sicily. Noto, a magnificent little city famous for its stunning Baroque architecture, lies 20 kilometres away. You can’t miss the traditional afternoon stroll down its main street.
