The house adjoins a small hamlet surrounded by beautiful countryside with magnificent views, overlooking dramatic gorges, in a region as yet relatively undiscovered by tourists. Approached by a quiet country lane Le Puech has generous parking, a pretty garden, an enclosed courtyard flanked by large barns, a fully and securely enclosed brand new pool with an extensive terrace giving plenty of places to sit or dine in sun or shade. From the courtyard , garden or pool terrace you can gaze upon the beautiful Aveyron countryside and spy 5 medieval villages. The house has just been completely renovated and is newly refurbished and comfortably equipped to a high standard. Local sports facilities include golf, tennis, horse riding and fishing. For the children there is even a park animalier just 5 mins drive from the house. A nearby farm adjoins the hamlet where the children can see a farm animals like dairy cattle, chickens and a friendly donkey.

Le Puech is a small hamlet situated close to the town of Rieupeyroux midway between Villefranche de Rouergue and Rodez in the beautiful department of Aveyron in southern France. It is just 35 miles from Rodez airport and Toulouse airport is just 75 mins to the south. For those interested in history and architecture , there is a wealth of specially designated 'Bastide' towns and specially designated 'Most Beautiful' villages such as Sauveterre de Rouergue and Belcastel and medieval gems such as Najac, Cordes, Conques and Villefranche within 45 mins drive. Also worth a visit is Albi with its outstanding cathedral and unique collection of paintings by local boy Henri Toulouse Lautrec. For those interested in more physical pursuits there is kayaking on the river Aveyron at Villefranche and golf at Rodez. Horse riding , fishing and tennis courts are available locally at Naucelle and Pradinas. Colourful local markets abound with those at Villefranche and Sauveterre of particular note.

The newly constructed swimming pool measures 10 metres by 5 metres , is built to the highest standards with an enclosure which conforms to the new French government safety regulations. There is ample terrace around the pool with sunbeds for sunbathing but plenty of shady leafy ares for those who prefer the shade. From the tranquility of the pool one can gaze at the countryside and several distant medieval villages.

I think we were the first guests to stay at this confortable converted farm building and it was spotless and all the equipment pristine. Tastefully converted with a well equipped functional kitchen with a old well feature made for easy living. We found plenty of room, but at full occupancy the living/dining area may be a bit cosy. We found we ate out perhaps less than we might have done because of the flies - inevitable in farmland I know, but nonethelss irritating! Pool was just as pictures and glorious views from the surrounding terrace.
The owners were welcoming and helpful (internet to confirm return travel arrangements, book a taxi etc) without being inntrusive.
It is isolated and quite a drive - 30mins round trip - to get the croissants in the morning. There were fascinating old towns to explore e.g.Villlefranche-de-Rouergue, Belcastel, but they were a flog and with such an inviting pool it was difficult to persuade the kids into the car. The animal park at Pradinas was a good outing only 10 minutes away for younger children and had an amazing Bird of Prey show (don't think Health and Safety would allow it here!!)
Definately recommend it ias a very comfortable base if you don't mind getting in the car,
