This tiny village of some 40 houses and rock or stone flagged streets is administratively part of Port de la Selva but is physically quite separate from it, being it the head of its own valley, hidden from the sea (for fear of pirates at the time of its re-founding) and an integral part of the Natural Park by which it is surrounded. The IXth Century monastery of San Pere de Rodes and the Hermitage of Santa Elena, high above, are the only buildings visible from the village. They can be reached on foot by paths that begin here but also more comfortably by car from both the coast and inland sides of the mountains. Port de la Selva itself is however only 5 mins away and is now fully equipped with shops, restaurants, sailing club, sandy beach (our beach is pebbly with rock pools) internet cafe etc. while retaining much of its pre-war charm. Within 30 mins are Dali's house at Cadaques and his museum in Figueres, and other villages offering world-class music festivals in summer.
