Luxurious amenities combine with beach casual to make our Nid d'Amour (Love Nest) distinctive. In it's prior life a 'pole barn', this property has now been converted into fifteen hundred square feet of self-contained privacy a mere 300 feet from the beach on the Strait of Juan de Fuca. When you arrive at your destination the refreshing sea air tells you immediately that this is a very special home-away-from-home and the evergreens whisper their welcome.
While oriented to the woods (and fenced) for maximum privacy, (we regret that recent winter storms have taken out all old growth timber on this property, but we still have assorted ornamental trees, lush ferns & large maples) guests are lulled to sleep by the sound of the surf. Located 1/4 mile from the mouth of the Elwha River, this property is popular with surfers, as they are within walking distance of a great surfing area. We have also hosted guests interested in the Elwha Dam Removal Project.
Snuggle by the fireplace before slipping into the silky comfort of the European linens on your Cal-King canopied bed. Even rainy days are fun when you can listen to the rain falling on your tin roof. Enjoy cooking in a well-equipped kitchen or savor the unique flavors of the Pacific Northwest at one of the many excellent restaurants in town. (We are eight miles west of downtown Port Angeles, the park entrance for Hurricane Ridge or Victoria ferries).
Take a dip in your double fenced private hot tub, count all the stars you can't see living in town and revel in the smell of the sea. We frequently get guests who tell us 'last night was the best I've slept in ages'. While often used by lovers who want to get away from it all, (and frequent honeymooners), the house has been enthusiastically received by families wanting a unique location to use as their home base while they explore the wonders of the Olympic Peninsula or day-trip to Victoria, British Columbia. Originally with only a master bedroom, we have added a second bedroom with a plush Queen bed covered with imported Italian linens. Also on display, our dad's piano from when he ran away from home to become 'a serious jazz musician,' before he grew up, married our mom and became Washington's best known jazz educator, Dr. Ralph Mutchler.(Google Jon Mutchler and a large posting about dad comes up, photos and all). We are currently collecting photos from the various jazz clinics and stage band festivals to post above the piano--our very first guest actually goes, 'No way-I knew Ralph!' If you can provide one of the missing stage band tapes, stay one night free. In the living room the couch also converts to a 'full' sleeper with tempurpedic foam added for comfort.
Kid-friendly amenities include board games, glider, dozens of Disney videos, a fire pit for weenie and marshmallow roasts plus, of course, just across the street is the beach. Living next door are two experienced beach guides-Mademoiselles CoCo & Bella, who would be delighted to accompany you on your beach walks or administer Chocolate Labrador kisses.(CoCo says 'fetch' is her middle name and she is the original party animal!) (Bella is more into cuddles and walks, will only 'fetch' if it involves teasing CoCo).
The owners of the Love Nest live next door and are delighted to help their guests plan their excursions, recommend wonderful places to dine or even arrange for a masseuse to attend you after a full day of activities.
