St. Thomas celebrates sleek, modern design in white on white - Gwenn is the Celtic word for "white." Located in fashionable Peterborg just two minutes'' drive to Magens Bay Beach, a pebbled Zen garden and a stainless steel entry door welcome you into Gwenn''s foyer and Great Room. The Great Room offers sink-into seating on a grouping of plush slip covered armchairs and sofas and an Asian wooden bench.
Two walls of windows and glass sliding doors look out to Gwenn''s coral stone pool deck, and frame the island of Hans Lollick and the ocean panorama beyond. An antique model yacht lends nautical flair to the Great Room, while railings strung with stainless steel yacht rigging create an artful counterpoint to Gwenn''s clean lines. The Great Room shares space with a contemporary white lacquer and glass kitchen accented by a curved marine-blue Quartzite counter dotted with bar stools. Just outside, overlooking sea views, is a covered patio with a teak dining table and chairs for ten for alfresco dining.
Glass sliders open out from the living area to the pool deck, where cushioned teak chaise lounges stand ready for sunbathing. A stainless-steel infinity edge and a built-in bubbling cold Jacuzzi enhance the deck, which overlooks the Atlantic Ocean. Also adjoining the Great Room is a queen bedroom/bath suite; this suite is designed so that the bathroom can also double as a powder room for the villa''s main level.
Off the entry foyer, a bamboo-tread stairway ascends to Gwenn''s mezzanine level where a large queen bedroom/bath suite with an inspiring ocean view and a tropical bamboo floor awaits. Another leg of the staircase takes you up to Gwenn''s upper level and to the very spacious king master bedroom/bath suite, also boasting a bamboo floor.
The staircase also descends to a level slightly below the Great Room. On this level is an office nook furnished with a laptop and printer, and a two-twin (or king) bedroom/bath suite with a white-tiled floor; this suite looks out to Hans Lollick island. Gwenn''s second king master suite, very large and secluded, is accessed via an interior staircase leading down to the lower level from the Great Room.
Just outside this suite is a covered patio, away from the rest of the house, furnished with chaise lounges for quiet reading and relaxation. An exterior walkway continues from the patio to Gwenn''s air-conditioned exercise room, which offers cushioned flooring; in this home gym you can gaze at the lovely sea vista while you use the treadmill, stepper or fitness system.
Gwenn has been designed in sharp modern lines to provide a beautiful ocean-view setting for a serene vacation. This villa''s superb features include full air-conditioning throughout the entire villa, a floor plan in which all bedroom suites are well separated from one another for excellent privacy, uncluttered bathrooms done in white porcelain tile with stylish sections of smooth, pebbled flooring, artful skylights which let light in from the sunny pool deck, and glass block accents which complement the stainless steel and pure white sleekness of Gwenn. And its convenient location is just a couple of minutes'' drive to Magens Bay Beach. In a nod to the style of Philippe Stark, Gwenn is an impressive contemporary gem. Four stars.
