Maison d'Artistes - one of 4 self-contained houses at the Domaine de Montagnac

Full of character and wooden beams, the Maison d'Artistes has two apartments, each for 2-6 people, available separately or together. Renovated to a very high standard, each apartment has two bedrooms, one bathroom (1st floor: bath/shower; 2nd floor: shower), a fully-fitted kitchen, living room, sofa bed & satellite TV. 1st floor = 75 sq. metres; 2nd floor = 70 sq. metres.

Guests in both apartments have shared use of the spectacular Grande Salle (Jotul fireplace, chandelier, large comfortable sofa/armchairs and 4-metre oak dining table) and the fully-fitted Grande Cuisine. This makes a magnificently spacious holiday home of 415 sq m (or 4500 sq ft) - much more space than you will find in most gites.

A large terrace looks out over fields and woods - ideal for hot summer evenings. You’ll have unrestricted access to the shared swimming pool and grounds...and to our large snooker table.

Spacious and luxurious Grande Salle: Guests in both apartments have the right to use the Grande Salle and Grande Cuisine, at no additional cost. As the photos show, these are wonderful spaces that transform your self-contained apartment accommodation into a huge house. Luxuriously furnished, with chandeliers, large sofas and armchairs, Jotul wood burning stove, widescreen TV...and a stunning 4 metre dining table (perfect for up to 20 people). The Grande Cuisine is fully equipped with a 5-burner cooker, gas and electric ovens, microwave, dishwasher, and large fridge/freezer (with icemaker).

Need still more space?

The Maison d'Artistes is one of 4 entirely self-contained houses at the Domaine de Montagnac offering up to a total of 20 bedrooms – enough for most extended families or holiday groups. If you would like to reserve the entire estate just let us know!

If your aim is to find absolute peace/calm (even isolation), you may be well advised not to stay at the Domaine de Montagnac during July or August. Understandably, in the peak holiday season we are likely to have people staying in one of the other houses/apartments. For most people, meeting new people/friends in a relaxing informal setting (and children meeting and playing with other children) adds to the fun and enjoyment of a family holiday in such a wonderful place!

BUSINESS SEMINARS:

The Domaine de Montagnac is an ideal location for relaxed and focused residential business seminars. All of the spaces described can be made available, plus a separate dedicated seminar room. Our large oak snooker/pool table on the mezzanine is available for your use, as are the luxurious Grande Salle and Grande Cuisine. The First Floor apartment floor area is 75 sq m. With the Grande Salle and Grande Cuisine, the total floor area if you rent our First Floor apartment is 345 sq. m. - a truly spectacular holiday home!

A wonderful family holiday

Every year, we meet with my husband’s family. We had a wonderful time at Montagnac. Christina, the housekeeper, was a great help to us and we had the pleasure of meeting the owner, who recommended the most wonderful place for dinner for a very special occasion we were celebrating during our stay. The kitchen is a place where I would say: “want to have that too”. What we very much appreciated was that when we arrived, after a long drive, the bare necessities where available: coffee, tea, salt, pepper, sugar and so on. We arrived rather late and would not have known where to find these immediately. The housekeeper informed us where we could go the next day (a Sunday) and we did find a supermarket open on the Sunday morning.

The young crowd (between 16 and 21) had a ball with the billiard table and, for myself, the only regret is to not have finished the book of the library so generously provided.

Recommended: Families with young kids, pool is great. Otherwise 50 and over to have a quiet holiday.

PS The young crowd are family, they do not need disco, because they do not see each other during the year, so they have plenty to talk. And there are always the games.

Home from home holiday rental

A very well maintained, comfortable and well equipped holiday home in a fantastic, peaceful location. Amazing views across to the Pyrenees and only about 25 min drive to large supermarket In Pamier and Mirepoix which is a very pretty town with lots of shops, restaurants and large market on Mondays. Clean and safe swimming pool with loungers, which is also well maintained. The English speaking caretaker couldn't be more welcoming or helpful and is eager to be of assistance when required.

Would not recommend to those who wish to be in a village environment as the local Boulangerie is about a 15 min drive away and there are no local restaurants etc within walking distance, but if you want peace and tranquility with wonderful scenery and don't mind driving then this is the base for a great family holiday. Its also ideal for 2 families wishing to share a property as the apartments although very separate are better suited for people who know each other well due to their lay out.

The only negative we would point out is that due to the age of the property, soundproofing between the units could be a problem if you were unfortunate enough to be staying next door to a noisy family.

The English the owner is easily contactable to answer any queries and very accommodating if you require anything during your stay.

Thank you for making our first holiday in France such a memorable one.

C'est un endroit nicher en haut d'une colline, très belle vue et très belle demeure avec bcp de cacher et de charme, en plus nous étions seul donc on a profiter de tte la maison se qui nous a bien plus.les propriétaire étant pas sur place c'est la régisseuse qui nous a accueillit. un ou deux petit souci technique mais vraiment minime pleins de choses a voir ds les alentour Foix, Pamiers, Mirepoix, le château de Foix , le marcher le lundi a Mirepoix ,la rivière souterraine de Labouiche et des promenade tout autour du domaine... nous deux chiens se sont regaler en plus l’entrée et tellement grande qu'il y on dormi tranquillement au chaud... merci pour se jolie sejour

The Domaine de Montagnac is a remarkable place. Situated in a quiet and beautiful (but not remote) part of the Ariege in southwest France, with rolling hills all around, it is an ideal base for a relaxing rural holiday. As well as the local village (St Felix de Tournegat) being classified as a National Monument, there are amazing panoramic views of the Pyrenees mountain range – close enough for skiing or high altitude walks. With tourism and cultural attractions all over the region, and civilization (and, so, shops!) just a 15 minute drive away, there are very few holiday locations that can compare. Delights such as Mirepoix and Limoux are on the doorstep, as are the Cathar castles including Foix and Montsegur. For those wanting the sea, the Mediterranean and the famous town of Collioure are just 2 hours away.

Ski: There are several ski resorts within easy driving distance. While not as grand (or expensive!) as the Alps, all local ski resorts in the Pyrenees have a good variety of skiing in lovely surroundings.

The nearest ski resort, les Monts D'Olmes, is a 45 minute drive away. The larger resort of Ax-les-Thermes (also has thermal baths & a casino, is 90 minutes drive away.

With its beams and wooden floors, the Domaine de Montagnac was built before soundproofing was invented. Because of this, sound (eg walking on floorboards) can carry between the 1st floor and 2nd floor apartments. While the rugs help, for many this is part of the appeal and character of staying in a renovated house.
