Visitors can reach us on a superb motorway and dual carriage road system unbroken from Calais either through Paris or Rouen. Alternatively the TGV leaving Waterloo involves only one change at either Lille or (a definite second choice) Paris for a smooth and comfortable carefree ride to Poitiers. For those who prefer to fly there are regular services to Poitiers, Limoges and Bordeaux. Flying - to Poitiers from Stanstead(Ryanair) or Limoges from Stanstead, East Midlands or Liverpool also with Ryanair. By rail from Waterloo to Poitiers by TGV is a fantastic and relaxing journey - so long as you change at Lille rather than Paris. By Ferry via Calais, Boulogne(Speedferries are very Cheap), Caen(Brittany ferries aren't) or St Malo which is the shortest road trip this side(4+hrs) but usually an overnight boat ride. The A28 Motorway is now open all the way from Calais to Tours. From Tours to us is Motorway or dual carriageway to within 4 miles.

The area has a long history of royal connections with England and is very popular with Brits. Our climate is generally warmer in the summer, is much more reliable (if setting a day for a barbeque - you can generally be sure of having one) and it's an unusual day when you can't have all of your meals outside. Winters are as cool or even cooler but usually shorter. We are open to negotiate special rates for longer terms for people wishing to find a house in the area.

Angouleme (½hour away) is an old city with some of its early ramparts still intact. It offers good eating places, shopping and regular cultural events including concerts, theatre and river trips along the Charente. Further along the Charente is the small city of Cognac where regular tours of the many distilleries can be taken – most of which include a tasting session. Also within easy reach is Limoges with its many porcelain factories and “seconds” shops that are well worth visiting for their many bargains. If a visit to the beach appeals then La Rochelle and the Ile de Ré are within an hour and a half’s drive – with its own microclimate, it is well known as the second sunniest part of the French coast and makes for a superb day out. Poitiers is less than an hour’s drive and is the home of Futurascope – somewhere that most people say is an exceedingly enjoyable experience for all the family. The Old city is a pleasant day out as well.
