Port Mulgrave was once a thriving port dealing in ironstone and now offers a peaceful coastal retreat, with lovely sea views and cliff-top walks to the nearby fishing village of Staithes or to attractive Runswick Bay. Only A few miles to the south is the famous holiday town of Whitby, renowned for its fish and chips, with winding streets, hidden alleys, a beautiful harbour, secure sandy beaches and not forgetting the Abbey, reached by the famous 199 steps. The North York Moors National Park is basically on the doorstep, where you can enjoy watching the steam trains of the North Yorkshire Moors railway or explore the quiet village of Goathland (Aidensfield in the programme Heartbeat), visit Bunnyland, and it's thrills and spills, or Flamingoland near Malton.
