Dating back to the 13th century, the late 20th century saw the Torrs Riverside Park (the park under the town) - become a haven for recreation and relaxation. At the same time the New Mills Heritage Centre opened to encourage tourism in the area. Many visitors are attracted to the Torrs Millennium Walkway, a much-admired bridge set deep in the gorge. The Capital of the Peaks, the Chapel en le Frith, is merely 5 miles away, and boasts a cobbled market place with historic old stocks. The delightful spa town of Buxton is within easy driving distance, famous for its therapeutic spring water, as well as its Pavillion Gardens and magnificent Victorian Opera House, which hosts a variety of shows, drawing people all over the world. Also nearby are the Chestnut Centre Otter & Owl Sanctuary, the Blue John show caves at Castleton, and many magnificent stately homes such as Lyme Hall and Chatsworth House. A traditional detached farmhouse, which overlooks the High Peak, on the outskirts of the historical town of New Mills, and 15 miles from the market town of Buxton, is perfect for groups of family or friends. Enjoy magnificent views across the surrounding countryside, there are numerous walks and cycle trails to explore the area. Well worth visiting is the nearby country estate of Lyme Park.
