Quietly situated in a slightly elevated position within walking distance of Stalbridge town centre, in the heart of North Dorset's scenic Blackmore Vale is this unusual holiday cottage, cleverly converted from a former telephone exchange and dating back to the 1930s. The cosy cottage, has been furnished and equipped to a very high standard with its pine floor and beams, a super fitted kitchen, and two good sized bedrooms tucked under the eaves. Dorset's smallest town, Stalbridge, retains a kind of timeless character and offers visitors a wealth of quaint shops and inns. With the historic town of Sherborne, well-known for its castles and abbey, the ancient hilltop town of Shaftesbury, Gold Hill of Hovis advert fame, and the beautiful Stourhead House and Gardens all within easy reach, while a little further afield, but worth the journey, are Stonehenge, Salisbury and Wells cathedrals, as well as the stunning Dorset coast, make Stalbridge holiday cottage perfect for any time of the year. About the area: Dorset's smallest town Stalbridge, dates back to Saxon times and can be located within the beautiful North Dorset countryside in the lush Blackmore Vale, used as a backdrop to Thomas Hardy's 'Tess of the D'Urbervilles', adjacent to the border with Somerset. With its central attractive conservation area and 15th Century market cross, the town still retains much of its olde worlde timeless character, with a number of quaint shops and inns making it an ideal and peaceful centre from which to explore this lovely area. Within an easy drive can be found a wealth of National Trust properties including the beautiful house and gardens at Stourhead, historic Sherborne, famous for its abbey and castles and once home to Sir Walter Raleigh, and the town of Shaftesbury. The cathedral cities of Wells and Salisbury, mystical Stonehenge and the Dorset Coast are also easily accessible.This location has plenty to offer at any time of the year.
