Rustic Mountain Feel, Without Exactly Roughing it!
At Fox Den, there is plenty of room to sleep at least 6 adults and, of course, pets are always welcome. Kick off your hiking boots and relax to the sounds of the wind of the forest while rocking on the porch and enjoying the fresh mountain air.
Make time to go river rafting, ride horses, hit some golf balls, or take the Asheville Trolley (1 ticket free for any of those with each night of rental).
Roast marshmallows and make 'smores in the over-sized stone fireplace; get some ice cream, homemade jelly, or souvenir from The General Store; enjoy one of our many movies on DVD or on cable TV; out-bluff your friends with our full poker set or throw some darts on our professional board; play one of many board games or sedn the kids upstairs to to play games on the Nintendo64. Kids will also be busy with their own DVD-TV in the loft, as well as with the kids Foosball/Billiards table. And for your business needs, check your E-mail and surf the web with DSL broadband on our new computer.
Outside, keep an eye out for deer, foxes, rabbits, and groundhogs that frequent the woods, hike to the top of Big Bald Mountain to get one of the most spectacular views on the east coast, or hike the Nature Trail just up the road or even the actual Appalachian Trail just up the hill. The kids can go exploring down the many mountain creeks or play on the playground made from real logs. Your kids will surely convince you to take them to the pool nestled right in the middle of the "Village" by the Lodge. You may even bring your racquet and hit some balls on one of the most peaceful tennis courts you've ever played on.
Fox Den should offer enough activities to keep you busy, but guests can easily travel into Asheville for some shopping and music and check out the local college town of Mars Hill. Bring your Frisbee 'cause there is a tournament quality Frisbee Disc Golf Course across the entire college campus.
We have worked hard to provide a rustic, yet very comfortable week in the woods, but with all the amenities of home....sorry....you're gonna have a tough time telling your friends you were roughing it.
Book now for the busy summer season.
Four-wheel drive is recommended during inclement weather.
Hiking on Site:
1) 1.3 miles up the mountain (on Wolf Laurel Rd) is the entrance to the well maintained 2 mile Nature Trail. This eventually hooks up with the Appalachain Trail.
2) If you take Wolf Laurel Rd all the way to the top then left on Big Bald Rd, that takes you (on dirt roads) to the highest point (and best views) in the area. The Appalachian Trail also runs right across the top of Big Bald Mountain.
The rental rate entitles guests to one free admission per paid night at the following local attractions: Whitewater Rafting, Lake Lure Tours, Golf at Reems Creek, Asheville Historic Trolley
