La Cigogne is a restored, 4 bedroom Charentais farmhouse in the hamlet of the same name. Built around a courtyard, the house is in the centre with the 'chais' on one side that has been converted into a summer room. There is also a sitting room and an open-plan kitchen/dining area. The courtyard has a patio and a built-in barbeque. The private, enclosed out-door pool with an elevated terrace is on the other side of the 'chais'. There is a hedged, fenced garden with breakfast patio, lawn and parking space as well as a one-car garage at the back of the house. The surrounding area is rolling Cognac vinelands with woods and arable farmland. It is ideal for walking and bicycling. The Gironde Estuary is close by and the Atlantic beaches not far away.

Sailing Details: A sailing school has just opened up at Port Maubert where there is the option for novices, including children, to learn to sail as well as the possibility for day trips into the estuary

Only one week but we thoroughly enjoyed your house. On our first arrival we were thrilled to go through and discover all the different rooms and ‘places to be’. And through the week it felt as such a luxury to be able to read, swim, sunbath, do some emails and play a game in so many rooms/areas of the house.

Having come to Charentes for the 4th year in a row we do know the surrounds quite well, but St Dizant/La Cigogne is a bit more inland and has given us again a perspective. We have been to Mirabmeau, St Fort and Jonzac, and the ‘Pole Nature’ at Vitrezay, but we have mainly been lazing around the house, the kids exploiting the swimming pool up to the max, making good use of the barbecue, playing soccer with a soft (mousse) ball in the courtyard, and chatting over a good glass of wine/pineau by the fire or on the terrace. Thus a lovely holiday.

This is THE place. Unfortunately not ours but still, once you get there you will feel at home, as if in YOUR home. Every possible thing imaginable is there: so it is not merely a holiday home, it is a home where you could live 365 days every year.
Well situated for calm or active holidays and within easy reach of a motorway exit. We have been to several holiday homes over the past few years but this really blew it, we are looooonging to go back. And if ever we are lucky enough to retire, it will be somewhere in the neighbourhood, where we will try to recreate the cosy atmosphere of the Cicogne. You can bet on that!

La Cigogne is three kilometres from St.Dizant du Gua where there is a village shop, a garage, a bar, and a small Chateau with a garden. More general stores and bakeries are at nearby St.Fort, St.Ciers & St.Thomas. Mirambeau, 14 kilometres away, has a large supermarket as well as a good selection of shops and restaurants. Throughout the area there are regional produce outlets for wine, cognac, pineau (local aperitif), oysters and fresh farm produce. It is within easy reach of the towns of Blaye, Royan, Saintes and Rochefort offering good markets and restaurants. Nearby are the ports of the Gironde, Tremblade - at it's mouth - is famous for oysters, the new Vitrezay Nature Reserve as well as several 11th and 12th century churches. Also accessible are the towns of Cognac and Bordeaux, as well as the areas of the Bordeaux Appellation Controlle to the South, and the famous vineyards of Medoc to the West. The Atlantic surfing beaches such as Lacanau are 40 minutes away.
