This vacation home is in a quiet, peaceful, park-like setting on four acres along the beautiful Bitterroot River, on a quiet country lane. The house is located at the north end of the Bitterroot Valley, at the south end of the Missoula Valley. Missoula is just 15 miles away and has much to offer with shopping, restaurants, museums, farmers markets, the University of Montana. Florence, 3 miles from the house, has several restaurants, a bank, grocery store, and medical facilities. There are several small towns to the south with a variety of restaurants, museums, historical attractions and special events and festivals. Be sure to check www.visitbitterrootvalley.com for more information on the Valley.
Enjoy your morning coffee on the deck while you watch beautiful sunrises over the Bitterroot River and Sapphire Mountains. In the evening, watch the sun set over the Bitterroot Mountains. Fish, swim, or float the river behind the house or just take a chair down to the river and enjoy the scenery.
Wildlife abound. Canada geese and a variety of ducks use the river. Watch deer and fox wander through the property and eagles and osprey dipping for fish. Hike to nearby mountain trails, lakes, creeks, and ponds.
There are a number of golf courses in Missoula, Stevensville, and Hamilton. And for cyclists, there is a bike path from Lolo south to Darby.
The living room, with glass doors opening to the deck, faces the river and the Sapphire mountain range. The family room, which has a gas fireplace for cool evenings, faces west to the Bitterroot mountain range. It contains a futon that opens to queen-size bed. There are two bedrooms, each with a large bathroom. The main bedroom has a queen bed; the second bedroom has two twin beds.
A sunroom is connected to the main bedroom through french doors. It's a great place to sit and read, work on your computer, or just enjoy the view. The house is spacious and very well stocked and equipped, including your basic cooking essentials and supplies.
For 2014 season we have added a new gas grill and new table and chairs for the east deck.
For 2015 we have new flooring in the living room and dining room and are currently adding a covering over the east deck. Pictures to follow when it's completed in mid March.

We are Dutch and Nancy Dillon and live on the adjoining acreage. There are several acres with each house and lots of trees, so plenty of privacy for both. We've lived in the Bitterroot Valley since the 70's and just can't imagine living anywhere else. It's quiet, peaceful, and beautiful here. We take pride in ensuring the vacation rental is well maintained and that our guests have everything they need to make their stay most enjoyable. We have stayed in vacation rentals ourselves. Using that as a learning experience, we have tried to make our vacation rental as close to home as possible.
The Owner purchased this house in 2004
Peaceful. Quiet. Country living but can be to town (Missoula) in 15 minutes or head the other direction 15 minutes and hike mountain trails.
Watching the sun rise over the Sapphire mountains. Watching the change of colors in the river. Watching the sunsets over the Bitterroot mountains. Fishing in private in the early morning or evening. Quiet, quiet, quiet, only disturbed occasionally by meadowlarks, Canadian geese, and coyotes.
Staying here was a unique experience for us. To sit here in the early morning and look out, seeing deer, elk, turkeys, and that wonderful funny round marmot who is convinced, I'm sure, that this is HIS home, not ours. This is such beautiful country -- we will not forget it. Your house is lovely, so thoughtfully equipped. We never lacked for a thing -- we were so comfortable.
Perfect! That’s the only way to describe this place. Nancy and Dutch have done everything they can to make this truly a comfortable place to stay. The furnishings, décor and appointments leave nothing to be desired. The quietness of the area spoils you. The views are incredible and the river very accommodating if you are a fly fisherman.
We had planned on making several day trips while here but the covered patio, (one of two patios), refused to let us leave the house. If you must leave for groceries or shopping, Florence is just a few minutes away. Plan on seeing lots of wild life with eagles, deer and turkey the norm.
We are from Pennsylvania and this was to be the first stop of five fly fishing destinations. Frankly we have become spoiled by this place and are not looking forward to leaving. The only negative comment we have is we have to leave. We can’t wait until next year……………
Although our group may not have been the normal demographic (young professionals) for this property, we truly enjoyed this house and environment. We rented this property for a friend's wedding down the road. Everything you need to cook, relax and really enjoy Florence and its' beautiful nature. Property definitely described well, and very clean. You'll feel at home away from home in this quiet neighborhood with nothing but nature. I would recommend to any group, family, or couple who want to spend time along the Bitterroot River. I small breakfast shop down the road was excellent, fishing spots, and of course with a drive, hiking. Grocery store not far, and with a 20-25 minute drive to Missoula, there's a lot to do, and many chains if you forgot something for the trip.
Highlights were the spacious house with a beautiful deck, grill, sun room and porch off the master bedroom, open backyard, and the sunlit living room. The family room looked out of the deck sliding doors on a wonderful view of the river and mountains. Our only real complaint would have been the mosquitoes, apparently they were worse than normal this year. But, the property owners were nice to leave spray. Overall, awesome trip! Thanks Nancy.
This is a wonderful home in a very special location. We will be back!
Our stay was excellent! Home is beautiful with everything you would need. The setting is unbelievable...between the river & mountains!!! Highly recommend it.
We found the house to be clean, well furnished and everything needed for cooking and washing clothes. The location is easy to get to and stores and Missoula are nearby. We enjoyed fishing in the river behind the house and watching deer and waterfowl along the river. This a very peaceful place and we were able to relax and enjoy our stay. The only thing I would like to have had would be a quality gas grill.
I would definitely recommend staying here to anyone, we truly enjoyed our stay.
Dutch and Nancy have a slice of paradise on the Bitterrroot River. The house is well equipped with everything you need to make your stay comfortable. The views of the Sapphire Mountains across the river with the sunrise are spectacular. We saw deer, eagles, ospreys and sand hill cranes all from the comfort of the back deck. For those who enjoy fly fishing, as my husband does, the river is at the edge of the property. Missoula is a short 20 minutes drive away. Don’t forget to visit the extensive farmer’s market on Saturdays. We would stay here again in a heartbeat if we were not moving to the area next year.
Easy access to wilderness areas, blue ribbon trout streams, mountain lakes, hiking, rafting, skiing, snowmobiling, biking, golfing, shopping. Beautiful landscapes alongside small town hospitality.
