RURAL DETACHED STONE HOUSE WITH LARGE GARDEN

Borgo a Mozzano Cottage Rental Photos and Description

Rural Tuscan cottage with 2 bedrooms, a separate bathroom sleeps up to 6

Tuscan rural cottage in a private position, surrounded by woodland and with wonderful views particularly of Celle di Puccini, the village where Puccini was raised. 5 Minutes from shops and restaurants, less than half an hour from Lucca. Restored two storey house originally constructed in 1738, retaining the atmosphere of a typical Tuscan farmhouse. Equipped with many modern appliances and features to ensure it is comfortable in both winter and summer alike. Standing in grounds of nearly 2 acres. Fourty minutes away from the beach in the ski season the resort of Abetone is about one hour's drive away. The living accommodation is laid out over two floors. On the ground floor is a spacious open plan kitchen/dining room.

The living room is centred around a wonderful fireplace and includes a sofa bed and TV, DVD and satellite. The first floor contains two large bedrooms, one with a double bed and the other with bunk beds, both with stunning views. (Discount for bookings over 7 nights).

About Lucca: The whole area is rich in historic and cultural interest. The cottage lies approximately 15 kms. north of the ancient walled city of Lucca. It is a charming and beautiful city, with its priceless art treasures, narrow cobbled streets flanked by imposing palazzos, secluded squares, gardens and Romanesque churches. Whilst retaining all the elements of its age and history one finds sophisticated shops and restaurants. On the third weekend of every month there is a fantastic antiques fair which lasts for 2 days Throughout the summer months there are various classical and contemporary music festivals (Eric Clapton and Elton have both performed). On top of the medieval walls which enclose Lucca are wide and shady tree lined avenues. Here the locals and tourists alike, stroll, cycle & walk their dogs. There are grassy ramparts ideal for relaxing after sight seeing or you can hire bikes and ride around the 4 kilometers of wall. A great way to see the city from up high.

About the area: Florence is within easy reach, under an hour by car from Lucca on the motorway. Alternativly, there are frequent train and bus connections. Excursions can be made to Siena and San Gimigniano, both about 2 hours drive. Near at hand are Barga, famous for its summer opera festival, Bagni di Lucca, a favourite spa resort for the Victorian poets and which has an excellent open air swimming pool filled with water from the spa. The fashionable coastal resort of Viareggio with its golden sandy beaches is 30 kms from the cottage. Every year the famous Puccini opera festival takes place in the open air overlooking the lake at Torre del Lago. For winter visitors, the ski resort of Abetone is only a 60 kilometer drive away. An easy drive for a days skiing.

About Il Castagno: The cottage 'Il Castagno' (Italian for chestnut) is situated in woodland (mainly chestnut - thus the name). It is accessed via a private road 300 metres from the small hillside road that leads from the village of Partigliano. Further up the hillside (2 min) is a very good restaurant called Guzzanello. The house is built into the mountainside in a truly peaceful place, totally unspoilt and commanding superb views across the valley into Celle di Puccini the birthplace of the composer Puccini and further to the snow capped mountains of the Apuan Alps. Il Castagno was recently featured in an ITV programme about interesting houses to consider purchasing in Tuscany.

Enjoyed a wonderful stay at Il Castgano. The local area really surprised us in terms of plenty to see and do. There is is a splendid restaurant right on the the doorstop but a car is very necessary for everything else. Ben & Joanne Lawson

We stayed here in January 2009. After an easy journey from Pisa airport, we were pleased to find the cottage was quiet, clean, dry and very presentable. The accommodation was just right for our party, it had everything we needed and we enjoyed our stay immensely. The outside space available at the cottage tempted us to return at a different time of year. We used it as a base to ski in Abetone. It took about an hour to drive there and back each day. The skiing was limited but very good and the slopes were quiet. The owner recommended a couple of nearby restaurants which we found to be very good indeed. We also ventured into Pisa. Gordon Jan 2009
