Just a brief note to let you know that we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at LaVigne. It is a lovely cottage and outfitted with everything anyone would ever need to make a stay there perfect. It was cozy and warm and your directions were good. If we ever get the chance to return to Normandy we will get in touch with you folks so we can once again rent your home. Thanks again for sharing you cottage with us.

Great Home Base for Touring Normandy

  • 5 of 5
We were very pleased with the cottage. It was very clean and well equipped. The information on the local area was much appreciated. After a day of sightseeing, we would stop at one of the local markets to buy the ingredients for our evening meal. The weather during our stay could not have been better and we would enjoy a glass of wine on the patio before dinner. We would recommend this property to others who would like a comfortable home base while touring the Normandy area.

THE BEST 5 WEEKS EVER SPENT ON ANY VACATION

  • 5 of 5
THIS COTTAGE EXCEEDED ALL OF OUR EXPECTATIONS. IT WAS EASY TO FIND, AND WAS CLEAN AND HAD BEEN WELL MAINTAINED. THE OWNER HAD A LOCAL COUPLE WHICH PROVIDED GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE. IT HAD BEEN UPGRADED WITH MODERN APPLIANCES. IT WAS COZY AND COMFORTABLE. THE HUGE BACK YARD, WITH PATIO, FURNITURE AND FIREPLACE WAS GREAT. HAVING 3 BEDROOMS, EACH WITH ITS OWN BATH WAS OUTSTANDING. THE TV ENABLED US TO WATCH DAILY RERUNS OF "MASH" WHICH WAS A FAVORITE OF MY FAMILY. THERE IS A LOCAL POST OFFICE ONLY A FEW MILES AWAY AND THE LARGE TOWN OF VIRE IS ONLY 10 MILES AWAY, WHERE THERE ARE SEVERAL LARGE GROCERY STORES, AND A TOURIST BUREAU, THAT WE MADE USE OF. WE ALSO WENT TO THE LOCAL WEEKLY FARMER'S MARKETS IN VIRE AND OTHER NEARBY VILLAGES/TOWNS. THESE MARKETS WERE MUCH LARGER THAN ONES WE WERE USED TO SEEING IN THE UNITED STATES. THEY HAD PRODUCE; FRUIT; VEGETABLES; FISH; OYSTERS; FLOWERS; CHICKENS; SNAILS; MEATS; CLOTHING; COOKWARE; JEWELRY; AND IT WAS ALL GREAT QUALITY. THE MODERN KITCHEN ALLOWED US TO BUY ITEMS WHICH WE THEN TOOK HOME AND COOKED. THIS ALLOWED US TO EAT AT OUR LEISURE, AND SAVE MONEY BY NOT HAVING TO EAT OUT ALL THE TIME. WE ENJOYED BEING OUT IN THE COUNTRY AND VIEW THE NIGHT SKY'S STARS, WITHOUT STREET LIGHT INTERFERENCE. WE SPENT MANY HOURS SITTING AROUND THE PATIO AND ENJOYING EACH OTHERS COMPANY AS WELL AS THE CALL OF LOCAL BIRDS AND A CUCKOO, WHICH I HAD NEVER HEARD BEFORE IN THE WILD. THE OWNER HAD BOARD GAMES AVAILABLE AND A BINDER IN THE COTTAGE, DETAILING THINGS TO DO AND PLACES TO GO (RECOMMENDED EATING LOCATIONS, ETC..) IN THE AREA. MY GRANDDAUGHTER (8 YEARS OLD) REALLY ENJOYED THE NEARBY GOAT FARM THAT CONDUCTED TOURS (IN ENGLISH). IT ALSO HAD GOAT CHEEZE FOR SALE. THE COTTAGE'S SMALL LIBRARY HAD BOOKS COVERING MANY DIFFERENT SUBJECTS AND WE THOROUGHLY MADE USE OF A NUMBER OF THEM. WE WERE LOCATED ABOUT 45 MINUTES FROM THE NORMANDY D-DAY BEACHES AND SPENT MANY HOURS TOURING ALL 5 BEACHES. WE WERE THERE IN MAY AND JUNE AND OCCASIONALLY USED THE STEAM RADIATORS FOR AN HOUR OR TWO, TO FEND OFF THE CHILL IN THE COTTAGE. THE COTTAGE WAS ALSO FURNISHED WITH FANS WHICH WE DID NOT USE DURING OUR STAY. THE WEATHER WAS GREAT. WHEN YOU GOT UP IN THE MORNING IT WAS IN THE 40'S AND IT MIGHT REACH 70 BY THE AFTERNOON. I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PROPERTY TO EVERYONE AND WOULD BE MOST COMFORTABLE UTILIZING THE COTTAGE AGAIN. OUR FAVORITE RESTAURANT (ONE OF SEVERAL RECOMMENDED BY THE OWNER) WAS LE ROBBERY, IN VIRE.

Owner's Response: Robert and Janis were our American guests between 8th May 2014 and 15th June 2014, they therefore had plenty of time to enjoy our property, all it has to offer, the surrounding area and countryside.
We would like to stress that our cottage is over 300 years old and is not a 'Modern Villa', it has therefore lots of history, both the cottage itself and the local area.

Casa "peculiar"

Casa "peculiar"
  • 3 of 5

Owner's Response: We do not know if our guests speak any English as all our correspondence was carried out via e-mail and in Spanish, this may have caused a problem when they attempted to speak on the telephone with our cartakers Jane and Jim.
We have rented out this property for 13 years and in that time no other guests have found any difficulty in locating it with the directions we have supplied, again translation of the directions from English into Spanish may have caused a problem.
The property is over 300 years old and in that time has been heated by wood burner fires, although central heating was installed prior to our purchase of the cottage. Being so old it has attained the smell of wood smoke and that of an old building. When arriving at any new location, i.e.building, new smells will be noted, especillay if windows and doors have not been opened for a few days.
The lounge is freshly decorated and comfortably furnished, a lack of charm is a personal matter.
Two out of the three bedrooms have been decorated recently and the third not that long ago. We try to keep the rooms simple and do not clutter them with charming items, in order to allow our guests room for their own items.
With regards to the bathroom facilities, the main bathroom was refiitted this year, 2014, the other two bathroom facilities are advertised as wet rooms, similar to those found in many small hotels in France. We have never had any complaints about this particular item before.
We would not agree that the outside of the property has been neglected, we had a new roof fitted in 2013 and the exterior was decorated in 2013.
The garden is tended by our French neighbour but is mainly laid to lawn at the rear for ease of maintenance. It is simply laid out and does not have laid out flower beds to keep tending to a minimum; again we have never had complaints about the garden before, generally only comments about the wild life that visit it, including deer, hares, stoats, ferrets and numerous bird life.
It would seem possible that our guests had not stayed in a typical French gite before this visit.

Fantastic getaway, peaceful and comfortable

  • 4 of 5
The cottage was very clean and the beds comfortable. All equipment was to hand including clean towels. The cottage is peaceful, nice garden and barbeque. The supermarket and petrol station is about 10 min drive away. The cottage is set in the country so you will find your about an hours drive to the nearest beach. The D-Day beaches and museums are great. The children enjoyed them. The 360 degree cinema at Arromanche is a must. Would recommend to friends and family. Many thanks to the owners for an enjoyable stay..

Owner's Response: Our property is centrally located giving a wide choice of places to visit including beaches on the North and West coast of Normandy. All of the D Day landing sites are within an easy drive of the property on generally empty French roads, through beautiful open countryside.

La Vigne

  • 4 of 5
We found la vigne to be a compact and well equipped cottage. Extensive kitchen equipment, games, books and videos covered all eventualities. There was nothing we could have added to enhance our stay. The garden was delightful and we utilised the bar b que on a couple of occasions. The children loved the cottage as well and it's proximity to d day beaches, Bayeaux, and mont st michel, kept the adults happy, while a zoo a theme park and a superb swimming pool in Vire kept the children amused. All round a relaxing holiday.

Owner's Response: Sabrina

Thank you for your kind response. We are glad you found that the cottage contained evrything you would wish to find. Our property is not just a Holiday Home, it is a real home from home. It is our intention to replace all of the bathroom equipment during the winter of 2013, merely to update it and to add an additional shower to the two showers already in the property, this is to ensure even better facilities for the 2014 season.

Charming character cottage with great location

  • 4 of 5
A lovely cottage full of character and charm. like home from home with everything you need for a perfect relaxing holiday. centrally located in the Calvados region and easy access to Normandy landing beaches, Mont St Michael and Bayeux. The tapestry was fascinating and the Cathedral at Bayeux is not to be missed. Excellent communication from the owners and great directions. Take in a day trip to Jersey...if you can accept the crossing may be rough!! Cottage was as described and many modern features, like the well equipped kitchen with plenty of crockery, pots and pans, glasses and lovely cutlery, which is great if you want to use the dishwasher. We even used the slow cooker one day and cam home to a superb French classic Bouef Bourgignon. Only 4 hour drive back to Calais so good to spend one week in South West France and 2nd week in Normandy as we did. Would recommend for families or couples
