Can I play golf at Southern Dunes?: Yes you can. It is a public course with great practice facilities, a good pro shop and lessons all available. Rates range from $60 to $120 depending on season - twilight rates, 9 hole rates and more than 1 round rates are often available. The number of tees means you can have a great game if you are a high handicap through to a real challenge for low handicappers. Pin positions change frequently so one day a 7 iron will get you to a par 3 - the next time a 3 iron may be needed. Very fast greens! Some water, hilly (unusual for Florida) and a real 'thinkers' course.

Golf: Southern Dunes is a 4.5 star course & one of the 100 best 'places to play' according to 'Golf Monthly'. It is hilly (unusual for Florida) & offers a real challenge from the middle & back tees but an easier day out from the forward tees to suit all levels of ability. Fairways are average width but well bunkered & positional play is critical if you want to shoot a low score for the low handicappers out there. Ladies tees are well forward (my mother in law loves them!). Greens are fantastic - smooth & quick to VERY quick. Pin positions & wind make a HUGE difference to the course (I have hit 7 iron to 3 wood on one of the par 3s depending on pin position & wind). The course is well bunkered & one water hole. Practice facilities are excellent with pitching, putting, chipping greens & real grass driving range (with good quality balls). The pro staff are very helpful and friendly and give good lessons if needed. Breakfast is great. The first tee is a 2 minute walk (20 sec drive) from our vacation home which is on the 18th fairway. Rates are very reasonable for such a high quality course ranging from $40 or so for twilight rates to $90 for in season weekends. Tee times are reasonably easy to get a couple of days in advance. I play a lot of golf (5 handicap) & have played most of the course in the area (there are 20 or so within 15 minutes drive) - given a choice, I would play Southern Dunes every time.
