My mom purchased the original 40 acres in 1957 for $1000. Money her father had given her for college. The original cabin was built in 1971 and was beautifully decorated in the trendy avacado and organge motif of the the day.
In 2005 the home was gutted and completely rebuilt. A 400 square foot screen porch, complete with large wood burning fireplace, was also added during the remodel. A sand volleyball court and horseshoe pits were added in 2008.
Very peaceful with room to roam!
We have actually started here twice. Once in the winter and again in July. Both times were amazing. Plenty of space for our kids and for us. The house has everything and is modern and clean, the land and small lake were beautiful and the kids spent every free minute on the dock or in the water during our summer stay. Each time we were visited often by friends and family from nearby since my husband is originally from that area and the screened porch was a perfect space to entertain. The fireplace kept everyone warm in the winter and it was shaded and cool in the summer. I can't imagine a better place to vacation when we go again. It's so peaceful and secluded I keep telling my kids we are going to go without them next time.
Great Place!!!!! Perfect. Owners are great to deal with! Private in the woods with a big pond! Could use Wi-Fi! We will be back......again!
This was the perfect place for the family. Large enough for all and quiet enough to relax. If there was any downfall to the stay it was that the kids could not catch a variety of fish from dock. There are perch and bullheads but that was about all we caught and not very many. But that was alright as there were a ton of lakes in the immediate area that we were able to catch lots of fish on.
Other than that, we had a blast. I do believe the horseshoe pits area a bit long though. I would look into that and the adult horseshoes were no where to be found. Living area and bedrooms were perfect! The deck, it would have been nice to have a set of steps down to the back yard but that was alright.
Lovely place, nice and secluded! We will be bringing out 35 and older baseball team back up in late August for a stay this year and we will enjoy it!!
Thanks so much!
This was a very nice home, lake, and land. We seen a big bear right by the volleyball court the 3rd day of our stay. The first night we heard the coyotes going crazy for hours. It was amazing. There were dragon flies everywhere, really neat! Lilly pads were around the lake, frogs and tad poles kept our 6year old really busy. We picked off ticks everyday, thankful for they screened in porch for fires at night. Treeland resort was about 2 miles, we were able to luck out and rent a 25ft pontoon on the 4th. They haves really good food and Bloody's. Way better than eating at Famous Dave's if you ask me! The down fall was the owner wasnt good about keeping in contact with us, to just call us and go through everything before our stay. Also when we arrived at 530ish the 29th of July, the home wasnt cleaned. We were exhausted from our long drive, than had to wash bedding and clean the place is what we ended up having to do our first evening there. The owner reimbursed us $500 for having to deal with that, which helped matters.
We were looking for a place for 7-10 guys to hang out for the weekend, and this place worked out great. There were two bedroom and a bathroom on the top floor, 2 bedrooms and bathroom on the main floor, then a bathroom with no shower (just a large jacuzzi style tub) in the walk-out basement. The kitchen/dining area were large, but the living room was tight for more than 4 people. However, unless it's winter, you'll be hanging out on the 400 square foot screened porch with a huge fireplace. Our weekend in late May/early June turned out rainy and cool, but the porch kept us dry and the fire kept us warm.
The cabin is secluded, we couldn't see or hear anyone else. We made use of the horseshoe pit, row boat, paddle boat, and walking trails in the woods when the rain let up. The original Famous Dave's restaurant is just a few miles away, and we also hit up the LCO casino which was about 15 miles away.
Overall the cabin was great, and if the ranking was just for the cabin, it would be a 5. But the cabin owner was difficult to reach by phone or email to verify the reservation (she was on vacation without phone or internet for two weeks), and when we arrived at the cabin it appeared that it had not been cleaned after the previous renters left. It wasn't a big deal, we just had to clean the kitchen and wash the linens, but it was a little disappointing.
I would definitely rent it again, it was great for our group and and the bedroom layouts would make it a perfect rental to split between two families with a couple of kids each.
We shared this property with another family (a total of 9 people) for the Chequamegon Fat Tire racing weekend. The bedrooms were spacious and there was room around the dining room table for everyone. We all had a fabulous time swimming, log rolling (we have one log roller in the family), and seeing wildlife such as otters and sandhill cranes. It feels totally secluded yet one can still get to Hayward in 15 minutes or less. The kids (ages 10 - 14) had so much fun outside, they forgot about TV and iPads the entire weekend! You will feel right at home and not want to leave.
