THE 'ATELIER D'ARTISTE ' STUDIO : PEACEFUL BASE FOR TWO.

Avignon Apartment Rental Photos and Description

Historic district sought for its calm and shady squares.

1. Description.

This property consists of a former artist's studio on 3 levels ('The Atelier d'artiste') and its independant studio('The Studio') on the ground floor courtyard. The 'Atelier' was built in the nineteenth century, by grafting on a house dating from the sixteenth and seventeenth century. Its charm is mainly due to the mix of ages as well as a careful and faithful to its history decoration.

2. Location

Ideal location close to the small squares surrounded by restaurants and to every shops, especially Les Halles, the daily provencal covered market. Everything is a very short walk away.

3. Its owners.

Duo of decorators, Amaury and Gilles, passionately fond of History and lifestyle, collectors of paintings, from 18th &19th century and works of art, now decorate their mansion in the heart of the largest private garden of Avignon, just beside the 'Atelier d'artiste'. They will guide you to the landmarks and good places of the papal city.

They pick you up at the station or the airport if you wish.

3. Strengths of Avignon and the surrounding region.

Avignon, historic town surrounded by ramparts and largest theater in the world in July, is rich in architecture, from medieval times to twentieth century. From the Palace of the Popes to the Calvet Museum, through the Lambert Foundation (Museum of contemporary art), you can discover its extraordinary heritage through its many squares lined with plane trees and its alleys.

Avignon is located in the heart of one of the most important tours of South France. Thanks to an efficient transport service (bus, train, rental cars), you will discover at least one hour ride, the more beautiful villages of the Luberon with its lavender fields and olive trees, the largest market of antiques and decoration from France at L'Isle-sur-Sorgue, important historic sites such as Orange and its roman theater, the castle of the Marquise de Sevigné in Grignan, Aix-en-Provence, Les Baux de Provence, Saint Remy de Provence, the Pont du Gard ... but also the creeks of Marseille and the charming ski slopes of Mont Ventoux, the great beaches of Grau du Roi, the wine tours from Suze-la-Rousse to Gigondas through the hillsides of Chateauneuf-du-Pape, the truffle country in Richerenches, bullfights in Nîmes and Arles and many other discoveries yet ...

GREAT SERVICE, LOCATION, SPACE

  • 5 of 5
have found three good reasons for visiting Avignon: the charm of this medieval city combined with its modern conveniences, the beauty of the surrounding villages and countryside, and the opportunity to stay in the ideally situated apartment owned by Amaury. From before we arrived to the end of our experience, Amaury served as more of a host than a landlord, always managing to be present when needed and yet totally respecting our privacy. We read something to this effect written by a previous guest, but the service he provided far surpassed our expectations.
The apartment is well located, in the old town near the Papal Palace, and charming beyond what we had hoped for. Awaking in the morning and opening the curtains onto the adjacent small, medieval-looking courtyard through the arched windows was the ideal beginning to each day. In addition to the remarkable feature of a garage (for the small cars anyone but a fool would rent to visit an old city like Avignon; when you arrive, be sure to bring the map Amaury provides you), the apartment has a fully equipped kitchen. Although we took advantage of the nearby excellent restaurants and patisseries, we had more meals at “home” in this apartment than in any other we used, precisely because the kitchen area was so well equipped, roomy, and pleasant and the dining area in the light of the patio. We will stay in Amaury’s apartment any time we visit the area again and in fact have already recommended it to a friend. It is hard to see how you could go wrong with this place.

WARM AND WELCOMING

  • 5 of 5
Amaury and Gilles are the ideal hosts, and the large and comfortable studio apartment they rented to my wife and me was the ideal venue for our three day visit to Avignon. The Palace des Papes is a short walk away, along with an excellent selection of shops and restaurants, made more accessible through the thoughtful counsel and advice of Amaury, who took a sincere interest in seeing that we derived the best possible enjoyment from our stay.

YOU'LL NOT REGRET . . .

You'll not regret . . .

This was a wonderful stay for my wife and me. Having exchanged email with Amaury we expected that we would enjoy our stay. Even in his writing you could sense his spirit of accomodation. There were no disappointments. We used the Garmin GPS in our Fiat Punto and arrived right below the balcony of Amaury and Gilles. These are two highly talented decorators but first and foremost they are wonderful human beings. They are genuinely interested in hosting your stay and enhancing your experience. They are rightfully proud (but never boastful) of what they have created here. Amaury took the time to introduce us to their property, abutting their villa courtyard. They expect by completion of restoration hopefully by Sept 2014. Your studio is fully completed and is accessed from just outside the courtyard impasse. Staying here we lacked nothing. The decor was eye candy with one soothing tasteful delight after the other. The kitchenette was complete and spotless. I so enjoyed the espresso. My smart phone tapped into their secured free WiFi immediately. The small load washing machine resuscitated our wardrobe at a key time in our travels. Even laundry detergent was provided. The bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was spotless and the huge shower head rained down soothing comfort after a day afoot. Towels were thick and thirsty. We told Amaury of our interest in flea markets and he came up with detailed directions to the best three flea markets we've ever experienced. He gave us inside information on nearby restaurants as well. The antique flea market in nearby Villenueve les Avignon was the best ever. And we especially enjoyed our day trip to Arles on market day taking in the Van Gogh bridge (Pont Van Gogh on Garmin GPS) and the (Van Gogh) Courtyard of the Hospital, Arles. We left with so many fond memories. We'll now live looking for an opportunity to someday return.

ACCOMMODATING HOSTS AND WELL LOCATED

Amaury and Gilles were sociable and accommodating hosts. The location was a short walk from the Palace of the Popes, and the apartment was charmingly decorated.

A FANTASTIC EXPERIENCE!

  • 5 of 5
Fantastic would be the word I choose to describe our stay at Amaury's house.
The house is beautiful and perfectly equipped. Everything is clean, fresh and on a high quality standard, especially the bathroom and kitchen! The shower head is perfect after a long tiring outing!
In addition, it's just behind the Popes Palace and it only took us 5-10 minutes walk to the nearest sight-seeing spots.
Living here is very easy and we would highly recommend this location. Last but not least, the owners are very nice! Amaury picked us up at the train station when we arrived Avignon and sent us to the station again when we left. He also offered a great help on the train tickets ordering process. If we return to Avignon, without doubt, we would come back to here again!
