Overview

Avignon Apartment Rental Photos and Description

Historic district sought for its calm and shady squares.

1. Description.

This property consists of a former artist's studio on 3 levels ('The Atelier d'artiste') and its independant studio('The Studio') on the ground floor courtyard. The 'Atelier' was built in the nineteenth century, by grafting on a house dating from the sixteenth and seventeenth century. Its charm is mainly due to the mix of ages as well as a careful and faithful to its history decoration.

2. Location

Ideal location close to the small squares surrounded by restaurants and to every shops, especially Les Halles, the daily provencal covered market. Everything is a very short walk away.

3. Its owners.

Duo of decorators, Amaury and Gilles, passionately fond of History and lifestyle, collectors of paintings, from 18th &19th century and works of art, now decorate their mansion in the heart of the largest private garden of Avignon, just beside the 'Atelier d'artiste'. They will guide you to the landmarks and good places of the papal city.

They pick you up at the station or the airport if you wish.(airport : €140)

3. Strengths of Avignon and the surrounding region.

Avignon, historic town surrounded by ramparts and largest theater in the world in July, is rich in architecture, from medieval times to twentieth century. From the Palace of the Popes to the Calvet Museum, through the Lambert Foundation (Museum of contemporary art), you can discover its extraordinary heritage through its many squares lined with plane trees and its alleys.

Avignon is located in the heart of one of the most important tours of South France. Thanks to an efficient transport service (bus, train, rental cars), you will discover at least one hour ride, the more beautiful villages of the Luberon with its lavender fields and olive trees, the largest market of antiques and decoration from France at L'Isle-sur-Sorgue, important historic sites such as Orange and its roman theater, the castle of the Marquise de Sevigné in Grignan, Aix-en-Provence, Les Baux de Provence, Saint Remy de Provence, the Pont du Gard ... but also the creeks of Marseille and the charming ski slopes of Mont Ventoux, the great beaches of Grau du Roi, the wine tours from Suze-la-Rousse to Gigondas through the hillsides of Chateauneuf-du-Pape, the truffle country in Richerenches, bullfights in Nîmes and Arles and many other discoveries yet ...

When you stay at Amaury & Gilles apartment, it’s hard to decide where to begin on the review points as there were so many highlights. Amaury & Gilles, are two of the most welcoming and lovely people we have ever met. If you are looking to stay in the historic city, in a beautiful & cozy apartment minutes from all the city has to offer, then look no further. We stayed 3 weeks in the apartment and loved every second of it. We used this apartment as our home base while we explored Provence; this is the perfect spot to stay to do this. The studio is spotless, the kitchen is well appointed and has everything that is needed to cook a good provencial meal from your market visit. The room has blackout blinds, comfortable bed and is very quiet, we had no problems sleeping (almost slept too well). The apartment is in the non-touristy section of the old city; short walk through the beautiful old streets to the market, main square, shopping, grocery store and the Palais des Papes. We also received a tour of the upstairs larger apartment which is absolutely stunning for larger groups or families. We spent 9 weeks in Europe and this was by far, the hardest place to leave. The only thing that could keep us from returning is if it’s booked solid because of how popular it has become!

Great Location & Hosts

  • 5 of 5

It has been a year and I finally get around to writing this review on a really nice place in a nicely old section of Avignon. It is so central and yet down a dead end street of cobblestone. You can walk to the public market, which I cannot say enough about; equally as close is outdoor shopping mall and restaurants that lead to the plaza; and further, you loop around the base of the Popes' Palace to where you began. Home. It is just the nicely renovated ground floor of the upper 3 floors which I see are now on VRBO! Photos don't do that unit justice. The owners really did more than a nice renovation, in character with the age of the building. They did art! The owners were not just gracious but fun. We called the ground floor studio Amaury's Vault but it now has a name! It fronts on a nice little courtyard that makes all the difference. Entry down the always-no-traffic side street is nice and secure. The location really could not be better, nor quieter.

Delightful stay in every way!!

  • 5 of 5

I can only say that if you are considering this studio... Stop your search! Look no further! I stayed for three nights, having just left yesterday for the Luberon, and kicking myself for not having used Amaury's studio as my base for my 21 days!

Not only is the studio filled with warmth and quiet sophistication,

It has everything you could possibly need or want.

The highlight of my stay it has to be said...( And I just loved Avignon!).... Was the graciosness, caring, generosity and heart of this beautiful man, my host, Amaury!

I am a woman travelling alone to a foreign city and I could not have felt more cared for...( Even prior to leaving my home in the USA. ) I was picked up at the TGV at night... Given all kinds of info regarding Avignon as well as pertinent info re: the studio. When I inquired about where to purchase a charger for my devices...( i brought the wrong one w me!)... There was a new one at my door that day. When he brought me to the TGV to pick up my rental car, he came in with me, came to the car...checked it for damage...alerted the staff he found some and had them mark my contract accordingly... ! I have rented many places in my travels, and this was an experience that stands alone. Beautiful city, lovely people, fabulous apartment with an exemplary host!

Enjoy Avignon to the fullest!

You could not ask for anything more in selecting this property.

Listing description and photos were very accurate but did not convey the hidden bonus provided by the hospitality of the owners. Any questions, concerns, recommendations were thoroughly covered daily. They could not have done more to assist us. Not only would I recommend this studio to a friend or relative, I felt as though I was staying at the home of a good friend or relative!

Wonderful hosts, wonderful location, great place!

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay in Avignon! Our host went above and beyond the call of duty, picking us up and dropping us off at the train station, spending time giving us great info about sites to see and giving us a real feel for the city. Our studio was clean, well furnished and quite comfortable. We would stay here again!

Great service, location, space

  • 5 of 5

have found three good reasons for visiting Avignon: the charm of this medieval city combined with its modern conveniences, the beauty of the surrounding villages and countryside, and the opportunity to stay in the ideally situated apartment owned by Amaury. From before we arrived to the end of our experience, Amaury served as more of a host than a landlord, always managing to be present when needed and yet totally respecting our privacy. We read something to this effect written by a previous guest, but the service he provided far surpassed our expectations.

The apartment is well located, in the old town near the Papal Palace, and charming beyond what we had hoped for. Awaking in the morning and opening the curtains onto the adjacent small, medieval-looking courtyard through the arched windows was the ideal beginning to each day. In addition to the remarkable feature of a garage (for the small cars anyone but a fool would rent to visit an old city like Avignon; when you arrive, be sure to bring the map Amaury provides you), the apartment has a fully equipped kitchen. Although we took advantage of the nearby excellent restaurants and patisseries, we had more meals at “home” in this apartment than in any other we used, precisely because the kitchen area was so well equipped, roomy, and pleasant and the dining area in the light of the patio. We will stay in Amaury’s apartment any time we visit the area again and in fact have already recommended it to a friend. It is hard to see how you could go wrong with this place.
