'WATER'S EDGE' LAKEFRONT HOME, FEW GENTLE STEPS TO WATER/DOCK

Lake Nantahala Cottage Rental Photos and Description

Cottage, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 8-9)

Right on the lake with a large lawn for bon fires and horshoes. LOCATION,LOCATION,LOCATION!!! and now with WI/FI! One knows the importance of location when buying real estate. The same holds true when looking for a rental property. This property is unique compared to others on the lake(most are VERY high with many steps down to the water) in that it's located at the water's edge with very little elevation change (10ft.)between the house and the water. This can be an important feature for some older adults and young children. Fishing and swimming from your own private dock will surely be one of the most memorable highlights for the kids. You might choose to rent our pontoon boat for the duration of your stay or from the neighboring boat rental company. If you have your own boat, launch at the nearby boat ramp and tie it up a mere 100 feet from the house. The large, flat(uncommon in the mountains) park-like lawn lends itself to many activities such as playing a game of horseshoes, a friendly game of football,or relaxing in the hammock underneath one of the many large trees.

Come inside and 'decompress' amid the antiques and leather furniture, a casual blend of eclectic and rustic. There's no danger of feeling as if you've walked into a stale, cookie-cutter resort rental condo, as photos of family and past visitors adorn the walls and impart a welcome feeling of visiting with old friends and being a part of the family.

Views of the lake and distant mountains are wonderful from the two outside decks, where you can enjoy your meals outdoors or take a leisurely soak in the hot-tub. Walk 50 yards to a quaint mountain lakefront cafe' where you can enjoy an early breakfast and meet some of the locals, or dine informally in the evening.

Cottage is easily accessible and close to paved road. No need for four-wheel-drive. Quiet, comfortable lake living at it's best.

HOME ON THE LAKE

  • 5 of 5
We had an awesome time at Patty's lake house. Home is just as pictured. I run a high stress business and the tranquility was exactly what was needed. We went to the Dirty John Gun Range at least twice and the resteraunt next door has fabulous food. We went to Andrews for groceries a couple time and did venture to Ashville to go to the Mooose Cafe , Okey Dokie Smoke House and the State farmers market. But be forwarned it is a 6-7 hour drive round trip. Had a great time boating on the lake, just beautiful and so relaxing. We ended every day with a bottle of Champagne in the hot tub and music on the deck watching the stars come out. We had two very minor issues when we arrived and Patty took care of them the next day. Cell phone is spotty in the area unless you use verizon, but all I wanted was to get away from the phone so it was perfect for us. Had internet all the time. We would highly recommend this home.

WEEK TO REMEMBER

  • 4 of 5
Water's Edge is the ideal location to relax and enjoy the Smoky Mts. The view is spectacular. Beautiful and pristine lake with mountians in the background. The cottage gives you that "at home" feeling. It was the perfect place for our 4 grand kids (ages 8-12) to have the freedom to run and play. The hot tub gave us all the perfect way to relax at the end of the day and enjoy the beautiful sunsets. We will certainly consider returning.

BEST VACATION!

  • 5 of 5
What a wonderful location and home! We spent a lovely, peaceful week at Water's Edge with our three kids (14, 12 and 10). It was simply terrific! Because this home is located near the marina, it's a no-wake zone, which means that the kids could safely swim without us having to worry about boat traffic whizzing by. We rented the pontoon boat and had a blast! The kids fished and swam nonstop. The yard is really unusual on the lake since all of the other homes we could see had crazy staircases that went down from the house to their docks, and we spent a lot of time playing horseshoes, catching fireflies, feeding the ducks and just enjoying the beautiful lawn. The house itself is very nice with everything you might need, and the beds were very comfortable. We will definitely be back next year!

JUST BEING HONEST

  • 5 of 5
We are repeat renters (every year, twice a year) already booked for July who came here to check the calendar for our fall booking and saw the “It Depends On What You Are Looking For” review. It is so far off the mark that I agree with the owner about not bothering to defend it. We stayed elsewhere until Water’s Edge became rental property and NOTHING compares to this spotlessly clean, well-appointed, cottage with the best location on the entire lake. We hope no one passes on this listing because of one review that was clearly exaggerated. Take a moment to see what everyone else had to say!

IT DEPENDS ON WHAT YOU ARE LOOKING FOR

  • 4 of 5
The most fair and honest rating we can give is 4 stars--5 for the location and 3 for the cottage. The lake and surrounding area are beautiful. In the fall it would be majestic! There are numerous waterfalls within minutes of the cottage and two on the lake we found. It is close to Smoky Mountain National Park, although it is not an easy drive to get there. The lake is clear and deep and just gorgeous. It is ideal for watersports, but even the locals say that the fishing is tough. The lot truly is the only semi-level lot we saw on the lake. The marina is literally next door and we were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the diner there. The owners' boat is old and not as clean as it could have been, but it is functional and was reasonably priced compared to what the marina charges for a rental. There are very few services available within 15-20 minutes. Again, it's just a matter of preference. The owner seemed reasonable and communication was ok. Now to the negative...The cottage was not adequately clean--especially considering the cleaning fee charged. There were cobwebs in the ceilings and corners throughout the cottage. There was some debris left on the floors as well as a few dead bugs. The master bedroom had live ants including in the bed itself. Also, a towel left for our use was covered in pubic hair. The cottage is accessed by driving through the marina/diner parking lot. The road to the cottage from there is not maintained. There is a metal drainage pipe with a sharp point that shredded our tire. Stay left. The beds we used (the two upstairs bedrooms) were of very poor quality with the master bed being horrific. It is as if two twin beds were pushed together to make a king sized bed. It is as if there is a bar running down the middle of the bed and elsewhere the springs will poke at you. If you have small children, be extra careful on the stairs. They are small and extremely slick. The trash dump site is only open M, W, F. Remember, this is our opinion and improvements may have been made. For what it's worth....

Owner's Response: I don't feel like I should have to defend this complaint. We have rented out this cottage for 7 years to many, many people and have received nothing but rave reviews both from our guest book and from phone calls when guests leave. Many of our guests return each year. Not once has someone complained about spider webs-dirty window sills (which he did to me-this was pollen by the way) bad beds- stairs being too steep-cobwebs in the boat(which he mentioned to me) and towels COVERED with pubic hair, (he told me there was A pubic hair). I'm sure if there were ants in the bed it was due to the sliding glass door and screen in the master bedroom being left open. where there is a tree branch that hangs over the deck.. The topper, however, was he blowing out a tire on a culvert on a road to the cottage. True, in that one spot the road is not the best, but for this to have happened he had to have driven off the road for over time 100s of cars have driven thru there with now problem.
I think for his next vacation, he should not return to the mountains where he might come into contact with bugs, pollen, cobwebs or culverts. Instead, go to a metro. area where all services are close and none of the above can be found

AAA FOR RELAXATION

  • 5 of 5
Arrived in the middle of a crushing 6 hour thunderstorm and awoke to a peaceful quiet day at Lake Nantahala. This is the second vrbo we have stayed in in NC, first time to Lake Nantahala. Water's Edge had everything we needed for a very comfortable week. I would recommend it to anyone who needs to relax and vacation at the same time, no need to rush through anything associated with the place. It was great!
