Racers Retreat comprises 16 new luxurious linked chalets. Chalet Alpweg is a large, 93m2 chalet with two bedrooms, each with an en-suite bathroom, an open plan living/ kitchen/dining area, entrance hall with cloakroom, a gallery loft and cellar. The views across the Lauberhorn valley and left towards the Jungfrau glacier from the large balconies on the living room and master bedroom are truly magnificent. Underfloor heating throughout, plus wood burning stove. Use of the washer/dryer in the cellar. The chalet is located in a quiet spot 200 metres from the foot of the world-famous Lauberhorn ski race, where the Innerwengen chair connects you to the entire Jungfrau ski region (Wengen, Murren and Grindelwald). Innerwengen is a pleasant 15-minute walk from car-free Wengen. Taxi service and supermarket delivery are readily available, if required. A very spacious chalet unit equipped for 6 people to stay in comfort.

Wengen is a traditional, charming, traffic-free village with beautiful views of the Eiger, Jungfrau and Monch. It is a dual season resort offering skiing and skating in the winter and hiking and walking in the summer. The hub of the village is the short main street lined with chalet-style hotels and shops. In the winter, ice skating is a favourite evening activity of the villagers. The Jungfrau liftpass covers all three ski areas: Wengen, Grindelwald and Murren. The summit of Schiltorn, made famous by a James Bond movie, is a highly challenging black run. The longest black race run, the Lauberhorn World-Cup Run is also a tourist favourite. Wengen offers lots of long runs of varied terrain. The Trummelbach Falls in the valley, are the only glacier falls in Europe inside a mountain accessible to tourists, and is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Interlaken, a main tourist attraction in the valley, offers luxury shopping, beautiful hotels, fine dining and excursions.

Winter activities: Apart from the glorious skiing, non-skiers can enjoy numerous toboggan paths, hiking skating, curling or ice hockey. The cog railway trip to the Jungfraujoch, at 11500ft the highest train station in Europe with ice sculptures and views over the Aletsch glacier field. Another memorable trip is the 3000 metre high Schilthorn revloving restaurant above Murren, famous as the setting for the James Bond movie. The lovely lakeside town of Interlaken is well worth visiting.

Summer and Autumn activities: The Jungfrau region is a year round destination. The area offers numerous signposted trails of various difficulties and length, many also used for mountain-biking. Wengen is the central base for most summer activities. The Lauterbrunnen valley offers numerous waterfalls including the UNESCO Heritage Site Trummelbach falls. Wengen village offers tennis, skating, minigolf andmountain biking tours.

Ski: The finish line for Wengen's world-famous Lauberhorn ski race in January is 200 metres from the chalet and is an event not be missed. The famous Mary's Cafe is the place to enjoy your gluewein. The Jungfrau ski area comprises Wengen, Murren ( with its James Bond mountaintop revolving restaurant) and Grindelwald, all accessed by cograilways or cable cars from the local Innerwengen ski chair to the Allmend rail stop. At the end of the day, challenge yourself to ski home down the Lauberhorn or relax on the adjacent red run.

Other Activities: Ice skating, tobogganing, ice hockey, curling.

Excellent chalet in beautiful location

We stayed at this chalet for five nights but wish it had been longer!
We are a family of six with four teenagers and the chalet provided a perfect base for our holiday.
The property is immaculately kept and furnished and equipped to a very high standard. The views from the balconies (lounge and master bedroom) are stunning.
The booking process was very easy and the owners were very quick to respond to messages etc. They provided a very good service which included really helpful information about getting there and the local area and attractions.
Wengen is a lovely 'car free' village - the chalet is about a 15 minute walk from the centre but it is in such a beautiful setting that this adds to the holiday and the 'car free' experince!!
Walking in this area is delightful with breathtaking scenery - hiking maps are freely available in the village (e.g. at the station) and are very useful.
We would certainly recommend this chalet to others and aim to return ourselves.
All in all a great holiday in a wonderful location - our thanks to the owners for sharing this haven with others!!!

Our group decided at the last minute to book a week away. For the last few years we have usually gone to Zermatt or Saas Fee for our annual ski holiday but this year decided on a change and looked at Wengen, a resort that we had not visited for years.
We found this property and liked the look of it from the photo's, it was probably the wood burner that appealed. I made contact with the owner who was very quick to respond with details. After booking the property we needed to change the day of arrival due to flight times, the owner altered the days for us with absolutely no fuss at all.
The property matches both the photo's and description very well. It was in very good order, very clean and well equipped. The chalet is simply furnished but with new, quality furniture and is very comfortable. The view from the balcony is superb. The chalet is about 15 minute walk from the village centre which added to our enjoyment as it is a very pleasant walk which even my daughter looked forward to each day.
The service offered by the owner was very good, fact sheets were promptly emailed out before our holiday and after the holiday contact was made again asking for feedback on the property and how he could make the property even better.
Overall, this property was good value for money, it is in a nice quiet location and is in very good order. We would certainly recommend it to those people wanting quality away from the hustle of the village centre. I can see a return visit for the 2009/2010 season.
