Aloha! Welcome to Kailua Beach and Kekailoa Cottage.
The cottage is just 100 yards from the Kailua Beach accessed by our private beach path. The lot is the first lot from ocean front. You can smell the salt air and hear the awesome sounds of ocean surf. Enjoy swimming, bodyboarding, walking or just plain relaxing in an area of the beach less traveled by most. All these features offers a unique 'get-away' from the urban bustle.
The cottage has hardwood floors, new bedframe and headboard, two sitting chairs with ottomans and a sofa chair covertible to a futon. Other amenities include dressers, lamps, and an energy efficient ceiling fan. The roof has been coated with white acrylic covering reflecting 90% of the suns heat energy. This new covering has performed wonderfully, keeping the cottage inside cool.

Very nice accomodation located in the owner's proprety close to the Kailua beach.
Tan and Rick were very kindly, the Cottage is spacious, lighty and really clean.
A great point of departure for all the exploring we did all over the island.
We highly recommend!
My husband and 1 year old son loved staying at the cottage. It was perfect for the three of us and SO close to the amazing, uncrowded and peaceful beach. Rick and Tam were wonderful hosts and provided everything we needed. It was the perfect laid back beach vacation.
Location: Literally steps away from amazing & private setting of Kailua beach - no streets to cross. Since beach access point is residential, very few people to share beach with. Down the road (about 2 minute walk South on beach) is the public Kailua Beach Park entry where most visitors gather - so very secluded beach area. Walking distance to Thursday morning farmer's market. About 5 minutes or less drive to local markets (renovated downtown Kailua) & restaurants. Easy access to highways.
Amenities: Gated/Fenced clean property (safe for little kids), own gate opener with own parking spot (so no worries about finding street parking), washer/dryer, own bathroom, full fridge & microwave, air conditioner, fan over bed, internet wi-fi, outdoor showers available for rinsing, beach toys (boogie boards, etc), mango tree, friendly helpful owners.
Negatives (sort of): Next to semi-busy street so will hear a few cars drive at night (not that bad), only single hot plate limited cooking of meals (though owner says this will be upgraded in future), upstairs so might be difficult for very young or very old persons.
Overall: Wow! My wife & 2 kids (5 & 7) couldn't have asked for a more perfect way to celebrate our 10th Anniversary away from the hustle & bustle of Waikiki. Great location & amenities for the price compared to numerous other rentals in the same area. Just big spacious enough for our family of 4 with added feeling of security in a comfortable, relaxing living area. Minor negatives not even a consideration with so many positives. Highly recommend for couples & families with 1 or 2 small kids. Studio just spacious enough, but clean, safe location was wonderful. You could have laid back time on beach everyday or be more active with kayak/canoe, etc... Awesome overall value compared to other rentals (some lacked necessary amenities or was just too far away from beach to walk). Will Return in future! Highly recommended to Family & Friends about this place!
TIPS: Ask about nearby Pillbox hike, Turtle Beach access to see Sea Turtles, snorkeling at equally beautiful Lanikai beach with patches of live coral, lots of local watersports rentals available (sea kayak, ocean canoes?, parachute-surfing?, etc... Bring sunshade for beach. Nearby spots: Cinnamon's for breakfast, Island Snow for shaved ice, Bob's pizza for quick bite, Uahi Grill for dinner, Thursday morning & evening Farmer's Markets at different locations, Sunday Farmer's market by Library
My wife and I had a wonderful time staying at the Kekailoa Cottage. We wish we could go back! We made the cottage into a nice home away from home. There is more to the cottage than the pictures show and they really are in a perfect location on the beach. We grilled out many nights and the owner and his wife were extremely accomodating. We shopped in the very convenient Whole Foods and other local stores. We had one of the best beach vacations of our life.. no more Asia beach trips - Hawaii is like Asia's best beaches in America - the best of both worlds and this place makes Hawaii easy. I would say that you should probably rent a car if you want to stay here but there are lots of good deals if you check the major car rental sites! If you have more than one small child - it might be a bit tight - but its more than big enough for two people.
What a perfect place to stay when you go to Oahu! We had everything we needed & it was an easy walk to a beautiful beach! Rick & Tam were the perfect host & hostess because they were only there when you needed them. They had beach stuff for you to use and that made it so easy to just take a couple of chairs, beach towels & mask w/snorkel jump in the car & go...how nice! This was my 1st trip to Hawaii & would stay there every time we go back!
Kekailoa Cottage is a small studio, equipped with everything a visitor would need for a relaxing, almost-on-the-beach experience. We stayed for eight nights and were delighted by the Shemas' welcome to share their patio, grill and local knowledge. Everything in the studio was clean and well-kept: the bed is comfy and all the appliances in good working order. We made ourselves at home and probably should have stayed another week!
We went to Waikiki, thinking we'd be closer to some of the tourist sights, but they are an easy drive from Kailua. This is a great spot in which to relax -- but it also provides the proximity to the things we wanted to do. We visited the Bishop Museum, Queen Emma Summer Palace, Punchbowl cemetery, and the North Shore from here. And it was great to be able to walk to Bob's Pizza (taking our own beer, of course!) for a great taste treat! Buzz's is a 'must do' and very close to Kekailoa -- we drove, but if you feel ambitious, head down the beach!
And the beach! This listing accurately describes the proximity to what a Honolulu friend described as 'the best beach on Oahu'. We walked over every day -- and when the winter winds kept us from sitting there for hours, we walked the beach and watched the kite sailing instructors and students having a ball.
Kailua has a wonderful feel to it -- it's a real community. No hotels, no motels, just small friendly places to stay -- and this has to be one of the friendliest. The Kalapawai Market is just down the road, but there are plenty of big supermarkets in which to stock up and lots of wonderful places to eat and indulge. Thanks, Tam, for the Baci Bistro recommendation -- the food was terrific and the staff friendly. Agnes' Portuguese Bakery is a great spot to satisfy your sweet tooth (and your day's calorie intake)! The two weekly farmers' markets are fun to visit, even if you don't want to buy any of the lovely fresh produce, jams and flowers.
Will we come back? But of course! Not going to Waikiki again -- but Kailua's at the top of the Oahu list.
