6 self catering apartments, 10 bedrooms, 6 bathrooms, sleeps a maximum of 29

The 6 apartments are built into the south facing wing of a 17th century Italian Villa and 400 acre working arable farm called Palazzo Rosso (the Red Palace). The 400 year old building has just been completely and lovingly restored, retaining all original features, beams, solid stone walls, fireplaces etc. There is a 300 square metre 10 metre high beamed barn for guest use, paved with local stone. A 13.5x6 metre pool was installed in the spring 2008. There are extensive gardens for guests on both sides of the building, as well as an orchard and courtyard animals (horse, ponies, sheep, goats, pigs, chickens, turkeys, ducks, rabbits and dogs).

The building faces south and has views out over our farmland, with a river and the Colli Berici hills to the west side, the Villa courtyard garden to the north side and our 15 acres of Vineyards to the east.

Places to visit: The historic town Vicenza is only 17km from the farm & there is a cycle track to the centre for approximately 9km. The Berici hills are only 2km from the farm, where there are many hiking & biking tracks as well as an area famous for climbing called Lumignano. The spa towns of Abano & Montegrotto Terme are only 25km away.

Further afield: Venice is 65km which is a one hour drive away, or a one hour train ride from Vicenza. Verona is 65km which is a one hour drive away, Padova 30km which is a half an hour drive away. Lake Garda is 100km way & easily accessible by motorway. The Altopiano of Asiago & skiing at 2000m are only 70km away. Florence is a two & a half hour drive away

More Information about the property: The apartments can all be rented separately or together for larger groups.

Upon request it is possible to rent out a 110 square metre communal room with kitchen and bathroom situated next to the apartments.

The apartments have access to a first floor 140 square metre 6 metre high open plan communal room.

The apartments have use of a communal laundry room with a washing machine, two washing sinks, clothes drying facilities, ironing board and iron.

Ground floor apartment with two entrances and wheelchair access. The apartment has an open plan living, dining and kitchen area. One double/twin bedroom. One bathroom with wheelchair access. The apartment is very well furnished with locally made solid wood furniture and kitchen with contemporary lighting. The kitchen has a solid granite work surface. Classic terracotta floor tiles. 400 year old exposed solid stone walls. Original beamed ceilings. The bedroom face north and has a view of the 5000 square metre Villa Palazzo Rosso courtyard garden. One of the entrances opens directly out to the 350 square metre, 10 metre high beamed 'Portico' barn which is for guest use. The apartment is both heated and air conditioned.

About Philip Frankland

Hi I am Phil. My wife Silvy and I have owned and managed our 400 acre farm since 1992 when I moved to Italy from the UK. We started to rent out one apartment in 2002 and enjoyed having people around so much that we decided to restore a huge old 17th century barn and farm house which we turned into 6 holiday rental apartments.

The Villa Palazzo Rosso is located near the village of Longare, in the hamlet of 'Ponte di Lumignano' at the foot of the Colli Berici Hills (400 meters high). The local area is perfect for hiking, mountain biking and rock climbing. There are many local restaurants and wine producers where guests can enjoy the fantastic local dishes & taste the local wine. There is a cycle track which starts in Longare and goes all the way to the centre of Vicenza.

The apartment was very comfortable, perfect for a family with small children. The satellite TV, DVD player & stereo made life easier when it rained. The kitchen was very well equipped and there were lots of great places to go out for dinner, the Italians all take their children out with them which was a nice change and made our evenings much more enjoyable.
There were lots of places to go and visit close by, we stayed for nearly two weeks and still didn't get to see everything.
We had a great time staying over new year, we even joined in a local new years party which was great fun.
looking forward to coming back soon.

Amazing stay!!

We had a fabulous week at Palazzo Rosso in September. The apartment had everything we needed and has been renovated to a very high standard. We loved sitting in the barn enjoying a glass of local vino and enjoying the peace and quiet! It was a great base for visiting the surrounding areas, we ventured to Venice, Bolognia and the Lakes- all wonderful days out. We also thoroughly enjoyed the local restaurants and found we didnt need to go as far as Vicenza for amazing food. Although Viceza is a lovely city and well worth an explore. Phil and Sylvie were such fabulous hosts and couldn't do enough to help. They have also produced an excellent guidebook to the area which became our bible! They also put out fresh eggs and fruit from the farm for us- what a treat! Thank you Phil and Sylvie for helping us to have a wonderful holiday!!!! I would highly recommend Palazzo Rosso and hope to go back again one day.

We are charmed with our stay in Palazzo Rosso last august : welcome, apartment and environment were extremely beautiful. Fresh eggs, plums and wine were appreciated. Sylvia and Phil made all they can for delightful holidays. An adress that we recommend !

We had a wonderful time at Palazzo Rosso. Phil & Sylvie were very kind and made us very welcome. They were there every day to offer advice on trips to the lovely, old cities in the area. Anytime we mentioned an outing, they were able to tell us where to park and things to see. At all times they were at pains to ensure we were comfortable and enjoying our holiday. The fresh eggs every morning were an added bonus.
The courtyard was a lovely area in which to eat or simply sit with a glass of wine and a book. It was ideal for meeting the other guests who were from various countries and who put us to shame with their command of english.
The apartment was very comfortable with all necessary kitchen equipment should you prefer to dine in instead of going to one of the restaurants nearby. The whole building has been adapted very imaginatively from the original 400 year old barn. We saw photos of the work in progress - what an undertaking!
We had a rented car but there were regular buses on the nearby road which was only a short walk away. We loved the animals - the cute dogs, horses and the hens.
We enjoyed ourselves immensely at Palazzo Rosso and have no hesitation in recommending it to family and friends.

What a find!

My boyfriend and I had a fantastic time during our stay in Apt 2 in March 2010. The accommodations were amazing--the restoration maintained the charm and feel of staying in a 400-year old property with all the modern conveniences needed by folks on holiday.

Stone walls, beamed ceilings, tile floors...were the charm we were looking for. The bed was comfy and there was plenty of storage for our things. The modern bathroon with large walk-in shower was very nice with a sink separate from the the toilet and shower area. The modern kitchen/living area opened onto a beautiful patio that overlooked the pool. The first floor location of this apartment made for easy access with our bags and after a long day of exploring the region.

The villa includes a vineyard and working farm, Located on a quiet lane not far from the main road, it was close to restaurants, bars and many local markets. Palazzo Rosso was easy to find and a very good value.

Not only are we planning to return in the future, but we are recommending it to my daughter's friend who is seeking a wedding venue in Italy next summer.

The owners, Phil and Silvy, were friendly, knowledgable and maintain a library of materials and books to enhance your stay in the region. They made us feel welcome and part of the family from our very first encounter with them.

We recommend the Palazzo Rosso very highly and look forward to our return!
