Ayamonte Area: A place not to miss is the pretty historic coastal town of Ayamonte, situated close to the Portuguese border, it is only 10 mins drive away and well worth a visit to its cobbled streets and attractive squares, sit in one of the many bars , cafes or restuarants and sip a coffee or a glass of rioja and watch the world go by, or visit the daily fish meat & veg market or browse in the weekly saturday market . Ayamonte is situated on the Guadiana River and has regular ferry crossings to Portugal as well as River Cruises. Further inland the the pretty villages of San Sylvestre and San lucar - this is where the river narrows & a short boat trip can be taken from this picturesque village over to Portugal. There are spectacular local fiestas throughout the year, where the locals, dressed in colourful flamenco costumes, riding thier proud andalucian horses, parade through the steets to the churches.Villablanca has its own at Easter & the end of May. Surrounding Area : The capital of the region Huelva is an interesting old Roman port and the place where Christopher Columbus sailed from in 1492 ,to discover the Americas,there is an annual festival to celebrate this .Further away, yet easily accessible is the historic capital of Andalusia, Seville, where there are Roman ruins to explore and a theme park Isla Magica. Nearer to home is the water park & go karting track at Cartaya [25mins]. Donana National Park is under an hour away and a must. It is one of Europes greatest wetlands and home to deer, eagles, flamingoes & lynx.,guided tours can be arranged .Further along the coast is Cadiz and Jerez the home of sherry! In Portugal close to the border is Casro Marim with its medieval castles and Tavira an old Roman town with its quaint streets and daily market.

The house was lovely and met all our requirements for a family holiday. Nice to see traditional Spanish life and not feel isolated. We've had a really good holiday.

We had a wonderful time at Villablanca. We managed to find all the best beaches, we think, and found time to visit Seville and Portugal. It is a lovely village and everyone seems so friendly, I did not feel like a tourist in the shops hopefully we will visit again.

Just to say we enjoyed our stay in Villablanca,we played all the golf courses in the Eastern Algarve,from Castro Marim to Benamor via Quinta Da Ria.None of them are more than 30min drive.Favourite Restaurants in villablanca the Meson,the very cheap Bar Nuevo for the Tapas,also El Cholo in Ayamonte

Nice holiday in Villablanca

Hi Linda.
We just want to thank you for a wonderful week in Villablanca. It´s a very nice house, clean and well-maintained, It´s also nice to take a swim in the pool. It´s fun to stay in this little town,so very close to the spanish people, in the day-time it seems very sleepy, but in the evening all people are in the street and they are all very friendly.
We also enjoyed Ayamonte very much, what a beautyful old town. we recommend also to take the little ferry from Ayamonte to Portugal, it´s a very cosy and relaxing town at the opposite side of the river. We were visiting Sevilla and are still in love, We will recommend to pay for a horse- taxi, it´s a trip around all the famous places in Sevilla, there are so many beautiful places, and it´s take a lot of time just walking, and don´t forget to take a walk in the oldest part of town behind the cathedral. Huelva is also a very nice town,very assorted, if you like shopping. Isla Canela beach, is one of the best beaches we have ever seen.
After a day out, it was very nice and relaxing being back in the village for the evening. It´s possibly to eat very good and also very cheap. We recommend Bar Nuevo, the owner is very friendly and he want to give you a very good service, one day we ask him to make a paella ready for the evening, he had to ask his mother, because she´s the one in the kitchen, and they make a wonderful dish. After the meal we got a very good irish coffee, we send him a handful of stars.
We also recommend Meson, it´s a very familar place, mum in the kitchen and served by her daughters, they have a beautiful garden, you can sit under a hudge palmthree, they serve very local dishes as deer, lamb and pork, it´s very good and all homemade.

Hope to come back an other time.
