What the Boston Globe says about Back Bay:

THE GOODS: A one-square mile neighborhood that is arguably one of the most prestigious neighborhoods in Boston, Back Bay teems with history and affluence. Copley Square is the heart of Back Bay, featuring landmarks such as the Boston Public Library and the John Hancock Tower. Shoppers and tourists also flock to the Prudential Center. Commonwealth Avenue is the pride of the neighborhood - a beautiful, tree-lined boulevard with grand mansions and other stately homes. This neighborhood, along with Beacon Hill, is the place to live for the quintessential Boston experience and is popular with young professionals and empty nesters who fled the suburbs for city living after their kids left home. The housing stock is a mixture of Victorian brownstones and larger buildings nestled between high-rises offering luxurious living in snug quarters.

PROS: Served by the Green and Orange lines and an Amtrak station, Back Bay is close to everything. It's easy to hop onto the paths along the Charles River for an evening walk or bike ride. Real estate in this neighborhood will always be in demand so it's a good investment if you can afford it. These days there are more buildings offering luxury services like doormen, dog walking, and maid service for time-pressed residents.

CONS: Back Bay is one of the highest-priced neighborhoods in the Boston real estate market and you don't always get much space for your money. It's difficult to find a bargain here, and pickings are slim - if you find something you like, it's bound to sell quickly. Parking will be your next biggest concern. Spaces on the street are next to impossible to find and renting a private one will cost a pretty penny.

This apartment has a stove top but not an oven.

When in Boston

  • 5 of 5

This location was great for my stay in Boston. Walking distance to everything I needed, included the T. Just a block away from the river. The apartment was nice, laid out well, and perfect for the length of stay. When I come back, I will definitely try and book this place.

Beacon Hill Studio apt

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in the Beacon Hill apartment for 3 nights. It is in the perfect location - the streets are beautiful and everything you need is within walking distance. We found the apartment very clean, towels and sheets clean and the kitchen had everything we needed. Our only small issue was the heat inside the apartment - but we just turned the air con on and it was fine. The lighting in the bathroom was also quite dark

Stayed one night of a 4 night stay

Wasn't satisfied with the unit on Charlesgate East. We arrived late night. Neighborhood is somewhat loud and the complex had construction on the front steps, necessitating you to use the rear entrance off a dingy parking lot. Common areas of the complex are in bad need of upgrading. Unit was in need of a thorough cleaning and re-grouting of bathroom would make it feel cleaner for minimal cost. Somewhat dark in the unit also. That being said, Michelle, the property manager, refunded our money for the final three nights including the cleaning deposit and seemed concerned that we were displeased, and we gave her the specific issues we had with the apartment. We appreciated her professionalism. This complex could really be something nice if they upgraded. We moved to a hotel for about 130 dollars more per night and ended up real happy.

Owner's Response: I am sorry but I was not made aware that the management company was redoing the front stairs and everyone had to go thru the back entrance thru the back parking lot. I agree not the best situation. It was only a two day project. I could not control that project...had I known that guest had to enter thru the back parking lot thru the basement then I would have let the guest know. As far as noise.. The building is in the city of Boston in the Back Bay. It's the city. I have never had a complaint about this apt or about any noise. As far as the apartment needing cleaning. This guest emailed photos to me complaining that the apt wasn't clean and emailed photos to me. My housecleaner and he said it has been thoroughly cleaned. I rec'd a few photos of the apt from this guest with ONE piece of hair on the bathroom floor, the back parking lot and the back stair ways from the basement. I'm sorry that it wasn't up to the standards of this guest. UPDATED: There are new stairs at the property now so guests do not have to enter thru the back parking lot thru the basement. Even though my housecleaner does a great job cleaning the apt I have asked him to make sure they are always cleaned to perfection.

This studio was so perfectly located to Copley Square, subway stops, Fenway Park, MFA it was great. The murphy bed was very comfortable and the studio was very clean. I will try another unit by this owner the next time I visit Boston. Definitely a good deal

Great Location!- Back Bay studio on Charlesgate

  • 4 of 5

Booking this great little studio was easy. I'm so glad it was available. We were three adults and would say it was a little full with 3 of us, but would be perfect for 2. We put the blow up mattress in the kitchen, so we were all comfortable.

It was within walking distance to everything in Boston, but only a 5 min walk from Fenway Park. (the game was fantastic!)

It would be nice to have had some salt and pepper in the kitchen and a few more hand towels for the kitchen and bathroom.

I would stay here again in a heartbeat. Thanks!

Marlborough/Back Bay Studio

My husband and I just spend 4 nights in this charming apartment....and couldn't have been happier!! The location was ideal (3 short blocks to the T station for Hynes Convention Center) with a small convenience store and great little pub right at the corner, a 1/2 block away. The apartment was clean, updated and loaded with antique style charm...and the murphy bed was comfortable. We were able to walk to Fenway Park (twice), Boston Public Gardens, the Prudential Center and everywhere else easily. This area was super safe, clean and filled with bars, restaurants and shopping....and it's BEAUTIFUL!! We will definitely be booking with Michelle for our next trip to Boston! Thank you!!
