The Mac60club has about 27 members, and this Spring 13 of us were available for a short hop across the channel from Poole. Poole - the loveliest harbour to depart from and arrive home to - was a great start to a lovely week. We arrived at Cherbourg on time, and only the wrong turning by the drivers of 3 out of 4 cars meant that the journey to the house took a little longer than expected! The house has been restored to a lovely comfortable standard, plenty of room for everyone. A large salon, an even larger dining room, a good sized kitchen as well as a laundry room and extra toilets (good thinking!) are all on the ground floor, whilst up above, loads of bedrooms, some with en suite bathrooms. And the best luxury of all with a house full of people - non-stop hot water! We rented bed linen and towels at a small fee. The town is 5 minutes walk and has a great market on Mondays where we bought loads of lovely stuff for evening meal. Normandy cream (well, Normandy yellow really!) was bought in a large bucket shaped container, and graced several desert plates. Gorgeous. Ditto the cheeses available. Our party spread out, some to the Normandy beaches and battle sites, some to Bayeau for the tapestry, some to the seaside. All are not far at all. Big tree filled garden, but would recommend that a party with younger children had an adult observer out if the kids were out, as there is a pond (not easily seen) and some outhouses which look exciting!
