Casa da Montanha, (Mountain house) is located in a farm closed to the Douro Valley were the Port Wine is produced, (12 km) that has been recently recognized by Unesco as world heritage. Close by are historical villages, medieval monasteries, and a fascinating medieval village almost intact since the 12th century. Being so close to the river Douro this makes possible for visitors to envoy trips by boat on the river including the visit to wine cellars. This property that covers 8 acres, lawns, shrubs, and trees most of them oak, has been in my family for the last 200 years, the house is located at 750 metres high with a spectacular view over a beautiful valley facing a mountain of great beauty. Sitting in the garden or by the pool, gazing the view, breathing fresh air, it's a great place to relax due to the fact of being totally isolated in nature, the nearest house is the owners house at a distance of 60 metres .

The Mountain house is located in the mountain region that involves the Douro Valley. This surrounding area is considered as the treasure of Portuguese Medieval architecture heritage. In this region you can visit a considerable number of Norman churches and Cistercians Monasteries dating from early middle ages. The house is at 15 minutes distance of reasonable good restaurants as well as a big supermarket.

From an Irish Perspective - What a Little Gem.

If you like peace and quiet I cannot recommend this cottage and location highly enough. The views from the cottage are absolutely spectacular and the nearby town, Lamego, has many beautiful buildings to see. The location itself is rural and quite isolated - totally away from the hustle and bustle of city life. For us, it was a fantasy that came to life - wood burning stove, comfy couch to laze about in, nearby village selling locally produced wine - idealistic to say the least. The weather wasn’t very kind to us when we were there but it was April so we weren’t expecting a heatwave and it worked out great in the end as it allowed us to light the fire every night. This house is beautiful and by far the nicest rental property I have ever stayed at. The local people are warm and friendly and I would say to you, if you are considering a holiday in this area of Portugal stay at this house! You won't regret it. A special word of thanks to the owners of the house - thank you so much for making our stay so nice and for making us feel so welcome. We hope to return again in the very near future.

A Little Piece of Heaven

The welcome and quality of service are the best we have ever experienced. Magda and Jose are lovely people, nothing is too much trouble and they are concerned with your comfort and welfare. The house is beautiful, very clean, sympathetically restored and immaculately maintained. The views from the house are second to none and to have the absolute luxury of having your own swimming pool. It's a pleasure to explore the splendid mountains and to stop off at a restaurant to sample the varied cuisine. If you enjoy seeking the history and culture there are many monasteries and sites to visit, a trip to Anta "the deserted village" is a must. Trips to Lamego and Regua offer a range of experiences. Markets, dining. clubs and a trip along the River Douro is recommended perhaps visiting one of the many impressive vineyards patch worked across the mountains to sample the delicious rich port wines.We would recommend this place to anyone, comfort is the key here, but you must enjoy driving. All in all we had a fantastic time and long to return very soon
