Why Madalena Zaki chose Belem
Lisbon is a historic capital, a cosmopolitan with character and charm out of the ordinary, where 800 years of diverse cultural influences mingle with the latest trends and current lifestyles, creating truly spectacular contrasts. Along the Tagus, Bethlehem is the Lisbon neighborhood more representative of the Portuguese Discoveries. The big step of Portuguese expansion was achieved in 1498 when Vasco da Gama (Mosteiro dos Jeronimos) discovered the sea route to India. So it was the beginning of the Golden Age of Lisbon, characterized by the Manueline style, created by the monarch of the time, Dom Manuel I and decorated marine motifs. Lisbon has grown throughout the centuries and changed naturally. At the beginning of the Age of Discoveries, Lisbon was expanded, becoming an important center for trade in jewelry and spices (Commerce Square). Later, when the city was destroyed by the Earthquake of 1755, the Marquis of Pombal (tomb in the church's Memorial) was responsible for the rebuilding; creating the 'Pombaline' neighborhood trader that still retains much of its original layout. At this time the King has changed his residence to the Ajuda Palace, which is located in a side street to the apartment. The light in Bethlehem is incredible, as indeed in most of the city, because the Portuguese pavement. This is a Lisbon area where many people spend their leisure time: dining and sunbathing, resting or playing sports or cultural activities. Although Bethlehem has a lot of visiting, the apartment is located in a quiet residential area. In front of the building there is a free park to park the car.
