Special Offer! August 13 - August 31

Centro Storico (Old Rome) Apartment Rental Photos and Description

The apartment, located in a small town house from the XVIth Century, is located in a small and quiet street of the lively and picturesque area of Trastevere, very close to the marvellous square and church of Santa Maria in Trastevere. Rome's gentle light invades all the rooms, and from the windows you can enjoy a panoramic view over the ancient roofs of the area and the Gianicolo hill. The newly restored apartment has been carefully and elegantly fitted by its owners (an artist and a cinema casting director) who also lives in this fascinating Roman district.

The apartment has wooden ceilings with beams, hardwood floors and boasts a living room, 2 bedrooms, each one with its own small bathroom equipped with hand basin, shower and toilet.

It is laid out to higest standard for a very pleasant stay.

TRASTEVERE CHARM

  • 5 of 5
From beginning to end, inside and out, in the Trastevere neighborhood, my family found lots to love in this part of Rome. The apartment really exceeded our expectations. The housekeeper met us upon our arrival where we were able to see that the whole apartment was spotless. Our teenage daughter felt fortunate to have her own bedroom AND bathroom. Even though both bathrooms were small, they met our needs. Each morning, we drank coffee at the dining table or in bed with a sweet view of the hill houses through the back window. There was no need for air conditioning because the cross breeze, from front to back, kept us cool. The artwork on the walls personalized the atmosphere. Andrea's map came in handy on various occasions. We had to buy a new camera lens and easily found the photo shop, only five minutes away. We needed banking services and were directed via Andrea's map as well. It contains the specifics not found on the commercial maps. Many of Rome's sites are within walking distance. We did spend hours roaming the streets of this ancient city. One evening, when we were especially tired, we watched the World Cup on the apartment's TV. WIFI worked well, so we were able to connect with our next proprietor in Venice when necessary. We were able to meet Andrea on our last morning sitting around the dining table. He is a delightful man who is happy to share his family's antiques and stories with his guests. I hope to return to this lovely apartment in this wonderful area of our favorite Italian city.

COMFORTABLE APARTMENT IN A GREAT LOCATION

  • 4 of 5
My wife, sister and I spent a very enjoyable week in Trastevere in Andrea's comfortable apartment. The description and pictures of the apartment are accurate and fair. It was clean and well maintained. It is furnished in antiques that Andrea has collected and the walls are adorned with some of his very interesting art. It was functional and met all of our needs. Although the bathrooms are small (compared to USA), I believe they are typical of Italian apartments. There is air conditioning in the bedrooms but not in the rest of the apartment, and although we were there during late June and early July, we found the apartment temperature, as there is usually a good flow of air from the front to back of the apartment. We only used the air conditioners at night.

This was our first time in Trastevere and it is fun and enjoyable. Although the night life is vibrant and goes on quite late, as the bedrooms are on the back side of the apartment, they are quiet despite the lively atmosphere. During the day it is a quiet neighborhood and a fun place to be in. We felt safe in the area. If we return to Roma again, we will look to stay here.

It was somewhat difficult for the taxi to find the address on arrival due to the small winding streets and difficulty in driving on some of them, but we were eventually able overcome that. As previous travelers have said, it is on the third floor with no elevators, so if going up and down steps are a difficulty, this apartment would not be appropriate. It was no bother for us (70 years old and good health), however. It is a great location to explore Rome, particularly if you like to walk. There are plenty of good restaurants in the area.

Andrea was very helpful and his hand drawn map of Trastevere and the location of important points of interest and needs was a life saver. He was a gracious host and his assistant met us, explained the apartment and key locations in the neighborhood, and made a taxi reservation for us to depart early in the morning.

As you wrote, wishing to come back to us, we will wait you in next future!
The house will be even more functional and beautiful because this summer we will continue to make renovations suggested by our guests.

DISAPPOINTING

  • 1 of 5
Rented apartment for 1 month. Great location. Close to shops and restaurants. Andreas map was helpful locating stores, etc. The apartment is on the third floor, no lift. Nice and bright but the only view is a wall unless you hang out the window to look up or down street. I found the steps to be difficult going up or down especially if carrying anything. The apartment is a nice size and would accommodate 2-3 people.
More attention needs to be paid to cleaning and comfort. There were several cobwebs the size of basketballs in the dining area ceiling which I cleaned away with the broom. The grout in the shower was very mildewed. We bought cleaner with bleach that we sprayed on it but when we saw Andrea in the area and told him, he came a few days later and covered the grout with something. The shower heads need to be cleaned or replaced as a lot of holes are clogged. Toilet seat has two large open cracks. The microwave top inside is very dirty so just didn't use it. Some of the dishes in cupboard are dirty. The knobs on stove were sticky greasy. Ironing board cover had a large area stained with something and could only use front half of board. And it wouldn't hurt to wash or paint the scuffed areas of the walls. I tried to wipe off some spatters on the inside shutters in the kitchen and it left streaks. I don't mind cleaning up after myself but don't think I should have to clean on arrival.
The furnishings, the beds were comfortable. Thankfully since that was the only comfortable place in the apartment. When I changed the sheets I discovered that the pillows were stained yellow. This was really upsetting and I went out and bought a pillow to use. The sofa cushions were all lumpy and very uncomfortable. The caned rocker has a large hole in the back, and the caned chair in bedroom has large hole in seat. The chairs in the kitchen are too brittle for an adult to sit on. I sat in chairs at dining table when there.
Internet is spotty. When I told Andrea he said no one else ever complained. It always came back on eventually but at times it was out for hours.
Not my first rental in Italy so I know what to expect. The apartment is advertised as being laid out to the highest standard. If that's what you are expecting you will be highly disappointed as I was.
I couldn't let this spoil my trip so had to adjust and just clean what I would be using. I still had a wonderful time in Rome and will definitely return again. I just won't stay at this apartment.

Owner's Response: I am very sourprise of this rewiew, as all my precedent guests that wrote wanderfull rewiews, but i had the impression from the first day the this guest was difficult: at the arrive i got to her a bottle of wine of 20e and flowers on the table, any smile by her, any sympatetic reaction as with all the precedent guests...and now i read all these critics by her, not all true because, for make an example, the beauty view from the 5 windows is clear in the photos i posted on our page, and is not a view on "a wall unless"!...
..if the cleaning this time was no perfect i apologize for that (i also changed the cleaner man a mounts ago for have better cleaning), i also made in this lasts weeks same little works and restorations....and now i listen her suggestions for make all better, but sure this guest, the only one in 3 years of success, was very difficult...
...i went some times to the house for help and explein thinghs that the guests dont know how to use, i made same little works following the requests of the guest, i tryed to help but every time no smile, sorry if she dont stay very well, i will learn by her osservations for try to make happy in the future also the very difficult&rare guests...

CHARMING APARTMENT AND GRACIOUS HOST

  • 5 of 5
Four of us (two sisters, my mother and her friend) stayed in Andrea's lovely Trastavere apartment for four nights. I've stayed in Trastavere before and this apartment has a much better location (steps from Giancolo and a short walk to the Ponte Sisto); it's also just lovely and charming. Andrea is an artist and it's reflected in the apartment; the pictures do not do it justice. As others have written, Andrea provides a hand drawn map of the area (probably now my most cherished souvenir) and is extremely attentive and a wonderful host...and he lives very close by! When I return to Rome, which I hope is soon, I will stay at this apartment again. Highly recommended!

HOPE TO RETURN!

  • 5 of 5
Our stay at Andrea and Anna Maria's Trastevere apartment was great. The apartment is a good size and has two bedrooms, each with a bathroom, a living room with comfortable couches and pretty antique tables and sideboards, and a kitchen sized large enough to have a small table and two chairs - plenty of space for a couple to feel at home. The bedrooms are at the rear of the apartment and the living room and kitchen face the lane that leads to the square and streets where the restaurants are. The apartment has good natural light, and shutters to keep it cool during the warm days. Andrea met us at the apartment the night of our arrival (giving us directions by phone to navigate the cobbled lanes with bags and bike cases from where the cab dropped us off) and he showed us the workings of the apartment and pointed out places of interest on the map (and yes, his hand-drawn map is super cool and helpful!). As others have mentioned, the area is lively, with cafes and restaurants in close proximity. We arrived Friday night and there was no problem finding a place to eat at 11pm - people stay up late here :) If you are an early to bed person, you may hear some noise, but the bedrooms face the back of the apartment where it is pretty quiet. We found the location to be great for us - walking distance over the bridge into the heart of Rome, with the Coliseum and Forum in one direction and the Vatican in another. Upon waking Saturday morning the neighborhood was quiet and peaceful - with beautiful rooftop views out the bedroom window calling us to come out and explore Roma. We hope to return, and definitely recommend Andrea and Anna Maria's apartment as a pleasant place to stay from which to explore Roma. Grazie Andrea e Anna Maria!

PERFECT PLACE, PERFECT NEIGHBORHOOD

  • 4 of 5
I went with my mom and my teenage daughter. We had a wonderful stay at this apartment and enjoyed the neighborhood a lot. I’m particularly grateful for the nice hand-made map the owner made for us, which he gives to every guest. The apartment was clean, airy and with a lot of light. The beds comfortable. For your planning: I think the double bed is smaller than the American full-size beds and still bigger than a twin bed. Just a little detail: The shower heads needed replacement, and the owner said he was going to replace them.
I totally recommend this apartment and the whole experience. The owners are nice and responsible, and the place is fantastic.
