LOVELY APARTMENT, BRIGHT AND QUIET IN THE HEART OF ROME

Centro Storico (Old Rome) Apartment Rental Photos and Description

The apartment, located in a small town house from the XVIth Century, is located in a small and quiet street of the lively and picturesque area of Trastevere, very close to the marvellous square and church of Santa Maria in Trastevere. Rome's gentle light invades all the rooms, and from the windows you can enjoy a panoramic view over the ancient roofs of the area and the Gianicolo hill. The newly restored apartment has been carefully and elegantly fitted by its owners (an artist and a cinema casting director) who also lives in this fascinating Roman district.

The apartment has wooden ceilings with beams, hardwood floors and boasts a living room, 2 bedrooms, each one with its own small bathroom equipped with hand basin, shower and toilet.

It is laid out to higest standard for a very pleasant stay.

DISAPPOINTING

Rented apartment for 1 month. Great location. Close to shops and restaurants. Andreas map was helpful locating stores, etc. The apartment is on the third floor, no lift. Nice and bright but the only view is a wall unless you hang out the window to look up or down street. I found the steps to be difficult going up or down especially if carrying anything. The apartment is a nice size and would accommodate 2-3 people.
More attention needs to be paid to cleaning and comfort. There were several cobwebs the size of basketballs in the dining area ceiling which I cleaned away with the broom. The grout in the shower was very mildewed. We bought cleaner with bleach that we sprayed on it but when we saw Andrea in the area and told him, he came a few days later and covered the grout with something. The shower heads need to be cleaned or replaced as a lot of holes are clogged. Toilet seat has two large open cracks. The microwave top inside is very dirty so just didn't use it. Some of the dishes in cupboard are dirty. The knobs on stove were sticky greasy. Ironing board cover had a large area stained with something and could only use front half of board. And it wouldn't hurt to wash or paint the scuffed areas of the walls. I tried to wipe off some spatters on the inside shutters in the kitchen and it left streaks. I don't mind cleaning up after myself but don't think I should have to clean on arrival.
The furnishings, the beds were comfortable. Thankfully since that was the only comfortable place in the apartment. When I changed the sheets I discovered that the pillows were stained yellow. This was really upsetting and I went out and bought a pillow to use. The sofa cushions were all lumpy and very uncomfortable. The caned rocker has a large hole in the back, and the caned chair in bedroom has large hole in seat. The chairs in the kitchen are too brittle for an adult to sit on. I sat in chairs at dining table when there.
Internet is spotty. When I told Andrea he said no one else ever complained. It always came back on eventually but at times it was out for hours.
Not my first rental in Italy so I know what to expect. The apartment is advertised as being laid out to the highest standard. If that's what you are expecting you will be highly disappointed as I was.
I couldn't let this spoil my trip so had to adjust and just clean what I would be using. I still had a wonderful time in Rome and will definitely return again. I just won't stay at this apartment.

Owner's Response: I am very sourprise of this rewiew, as all my precedent guests that wrote wanderfull rewiews, but i had the impression from the first day the this guest was difficult: at the arrive i got to her a bottle of wine of 20e and flowers on the table, any smile by her, any sympatetic reaction as with all the precedent guests...and now i read all these critics by her, not all true because, for make an example, the beauty view from the 5 windows is clear in the photos i posted on our page, and is not a view on "a wall unless"!...
..if the cleaning this time was no perfect i apologize for that (i also changed the cleaner man a mounts ago for have better cleaning), i also made in this lasts weeks same little works and restorations....and now i listen her suggestions for make all better, but sure this guest, the only one in 3 years of success, was very difficult...
...i went some times to the house for help and explein thinghs that the guests dont know how to use, i made same little works following the requests of the guest, i tryed to help but every time no smile, sorry if she dont stay very well, i will learn by her osservations for try to make happy in the future also the very difficult&rare guests...

Charming Apartment and Gracious Host

Four of us (two sisters, my mother and her friend) stayed in Andrea's lovely Trastavere apartment for four nights. I've stayed in Trastavere before and this apartment has a much better location (steps from Giancolo and a short walk to the Ponte Sisto); it's also just lovely and charming. Andrea is an artist and it's reflected in the apartment; the pictures do not do it justice. As others have written, Andrea provides a hand drawn map of the area (probably now my most cherished souvenir) and is extremely attentive and a wonderful host...and he lives very close by! When I return to Rome, which I hope is soon, I will stay at this apartment again. Highly recommended!

Our stay at Andrea and Anna Maria's Trastevere apartment was great. The apartment is a good size and has two bedrooms, each with a bathroom, a living room with comfortable couches and pretty antique tables and sideboards, and a kitchen sized large enough to have a small table and two chairs - plenty of space for a couple to feel at home. The bedrooms are at the rear of the apartment and the living room and kitchen face the lane that leads to the square and streets where the restaurants are. The apartment has good natural light, and shutters to keep it cool during the warm days. Andrea met us at the apartment the night of our arrival (giving us directions by phone to navigate the cobbled lanes with bags and bike cases from where the cab dropped us off) and he showed us the workings of the apartment and pointed out places of interest on the map (and yes, his hand-drawn map is super cool and helpful!). As others have mentioned, the area is lively, with cafes and restaurants in close proximity. We arrived Friday night and there was no problem finding a place to eat at 11pm - people stay up late here :) If you are an early to bed person, you may hear some noise, but the bedrooms face the back of the apartment where it is pretty quiet. We found the location to be great for us - walking distance over the bridge into the heart of Rome, with the Coliseum and Forum in one direction and the Vatican in another. Upon waking Saturday morning the neighborhood was quiet and peaceful - with beautiful rooftop views out the bedroom window calling us to come out and explore Roma. We hope to return, and definitely recommend Andrea and Anna Maria's apartment as a pleasant place to stay from which to explore Roma. Grazie Andrea e Anna Maria!

Perfect place, perfect neighborhood

I went with my mom and my teenage daughter. We had a wonderful stay at this apartment and enjoyed the neighborhood a lot. I’m particularly grateful for the nice hand-made map the owner made for us, which he gives to every guest. The apartment was clean, airy and with a lot of light. The beds comfortable. For your planning: I think the double bed is smaller than the American full-size beds and still bigger than a twin bed. Just a little detail: The shower heads needed replacement, and the owner said he was going to replace them.
I totally recommend this apartment and the whole experience. The owners are nice and responsible, and the place is fantastic.
Owner's Response: Thanks Ximena for your fine words about the apartment, Trastevere and my usefull handmade map!
If somebody need bigger double bed (our is french size, 130cm) we can arrange the 2 single bed
toogheter and make a largest bed of 160cm...and thanks for the osservation you have made the checkout day...
everytime is important that our guests tell us what happen in the house for resolve every problems, we dont
living there dont have the total control of the house and the "voice" of our guests is essential for us.

Best regards forward to look you again in Roma!

A Home in Rome

I spend a week in Andrea’s apartment with my husband and two grown children, my husband and I in a bedroom with a double bed, and my children in a room with two twins bed. Both rooms were light and airy and came with an ensuite bath. The baths were fairly small, but came complete with enclosed shower and hairdryer. I envied the wooden beamed ceiling in the children’s room, and they envied our small wooden desk facing the window. (I intended to write there, but spent most of time simply gazing out the open window on to the back alley feeling the breeze.)

We all had reading lamps by our bedsides and wall outlets to recharge our phone and camera batteries. While the apartment is conveniently located near the Piazza di Santa Maria, which could get noisy at night as we were sliding into high season, the rear facing bedrooms were perfectly quiet, allowing us an undisturbed sleep. We didn’t require them during our stay, but both bedrooms had modern wall-mounted air conditioning units.

The rest of the apartment was equally charming and well equipped. We could have made a smoothie with the blender, borrowed an umbrella (we had brought our own), or baked a cake. The washing machine was easy to use with a more rapid cycle than many in Europe, and the accompanying drying rack was both large and light. We were in no mood to iron, but could have done so had we chosen. Though there were four of us in the apartment, we never felt cramped. The apartment had several quiet corners we could slip off to if we wanted to be alone.

But the best was thing about the apartment was Andrea: both his warm, helpful welcome and his artist’s eye. His map is as wonderful as everyone has said, and he spent several minutes discussing it with us once he knew our particular interests. (In addition to his map, he has provided a huge stack of guidebooks and brochures.) He has created – through the art on the walls, the lamps and light fixtures, the old wooden furniture – a sense of warmth and timelessness that the apartment – like the best parts of Trastevere – exudes. (And for those wanting less timelessness and more modernity, there’s flat screen TV and DVD player complete with a stack of DVDs.)

When Andrea met with us before our departure to kindly arrange a cab for our obscenely early airport departure, he asked what my favourite sites in Rome were. I forgot to mention one: his apartment.
Owner's Response: Dear Susan, thanks for the long and so clear description of the house...i am happy to know that my guests stay very well in the atmosfere i created for them in a house that i selected between many others when 2 years ago i bought it (looking forward live there in the future & also for my sun when he will be a man)...You and your family are really fine, sensible, and in my experience as "chef" of my house for holidays is not the first time that i look how the people from Cadana as really fine and friendly...i remember, when i was child and boy, that also in the building of my family was a family from Canada very fine as yours...at that time your country was for me a kind of leggendary far place, and your flag, so different from the other more "abstract", was for me very courios and simpatic

looking forward see you again
with my best regards

Andrea
